Pondok Buntet Pesantren, which is located in the eastern region of Cirebon, was founded by Mbah Muqoyyim in 1750. The establishment of this Pesantren was a form of disappointment for Muqoyyim who previously served as the ruler of the Cirebon Canoman Palace. Because of the partiality of the palace towards the Dutch colonialism, Muqoyyim finally chose to leave according to the palace and established the Buntet islamic boarding school.

Buntet's name itself is from the kidnapping of Princess Dewi Arum Sari (Princess of King Galuh) the buto ijo while on a honeymoon with her husband Prince Legawa (Son of Ki Ageng Sela). Princess Arum Sari who was taking a bath, came and was kidnapped by buto ijo & taken her to the Karendawahana forest (estimated to be around the present Buntet). In the region, there was a fight between Buto Ijo and Prince Legawa which was won by Prince Legawa by being able to destroy Buto Ijo. While heading home, Prince Legawa was caught by the roots of a hamlet tree as a result of which both fell. Strangely, after the incident, Prince Legawa and Princess Arum Sari did not know the direction of the road going. Finally, the husband and wife decided to live in the area earlier & made a message with the name Buntet or buntu.
Buntet is also widely history of pesantren known as Depok. Thing. this is because, the area where the Buntet Islamic Boarding School was once used by the Mbah Kuwu Cirebon (Prince of Cakrabuana), Putra Prabu Siliwangi & also Uwak based on Sunan Gunung Jati to establish padepokan. So that the people, knowing Buntet using the name Depok.

Mbah Muqoyyim had a very close interaction with the palace. If you look back, the father based on Muqoyyim, Namely Abdul Hadi, is the son based on the spouse of the Prince of Cirebon and Anjasmoro, the daughter of Lebe Mangku Warbita Mangkunegara. Abdul Hadi lived in the palace and received constitutional education as well as Islamic studies. Because of his prominent Islamic knowledge, Abdul Hadi was later more called Kiai Abdul Hadi.

In other data, it was also revealed that Mbah Muqoyyim is a descendant based on Senegecang Ratu Marga Buay Bulan, Kibang-Menggala Tengah Tulang Bawang Lampung. This information was generated by the KH. Amiruddin Abkari according to the Keeper of the Lampung platform at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah named Marwansyah Warga Negara. According to the information earlier, Mbah Muqoyyim is relatively known in Lampung and is enshrined as one of the street names there.

Mbah Muqoyyim also lived in the palace. Living with his parents, Muqoyyim received a fairly good education based on both teachers and parents. Not only Islamic and constitutional religious education, but he also learned the knowledge of civility. Through this process, in addition to having the ability in terms of science, Muqoyyim is also known as Kiai sakti mandraguna.

In another opinion, Mbah Muqoyyim mentioned nir have teachers formally. This means not getting a pesantren education or arriving at Kiai. The knowledge possessed by Mbah Muqoyyim is obtained naturally laduni (knowledge gained without learning).

Muqoyyim's separation from using the palace began when there was an attempt by Devide et impera (Divisive Politics) made by the Dutch at the Canoman Palace. The Dutch saw an opportunity to divide the Canoman Palace, because at that time it had two sons of royal heirs who served as sultans of Kanoman and Kasepuhan. However, the efforts made by the Dutch were not able to go well. In addition, Mbah Muqoyim's disillusionment as a relative culmination of seeing the royalty of the palace stuck in the Dutch budget. Many of them even behave contrary to Islamic law and even imitate things. bad done by the Dutch, such as dancing and drunkenness.

According to KH. Amiruddin Abdul Karim, Mbah Muqoyyim had also been specifically invited by Cut Nyak Dien at the battle in Aceh. As a thank you, Cut Nyak Dien put a rencong as a memento. While in Aceh, Mbah Muqoyyim and Cut Nyak Dien had created a tajug. It is said that one of the mini tajugs that was not damaged by the tsunami in 2004 was a tajug built by Mbah Muqoyyim.

Muqoyyim's struggle to establish a Islamic Boarding School was not easy, because the strength of the ulama, which was large enough at that time, was able to be a weapon that was grand enough to move students and citizens against the invaders. This condition makes the Islamic Boarding School an error of one forum that was targeted by the invaders to be destroyed.

Mbah Muqoyyim initially founded the Buntet Islamic Boarding School in Kedung Malang village, Buntet Village, Astanajapura District, Cirebon. He created a very simple and jua langgar house (Musholla) & several rooms of students. When he gave a recitation, it turned out that many people were interested in joining him in learning to recite.

The Dutch, who knew of Muqoyyim's activities and whereabouts, exclusively carried out attacks and attempted arrests. Because the information had been leaked, Mbah Muqoyyim was finally able to save himself with his close friend, Kiai Ardi Sela, to Pesawahan Sindanglaut Village, which is located ± 10 km according to Pesantren Buntet. However, the pesantren he had founded was destroyed by the Dutch. This event made Mbah Muqoyyim have time to adventure to the Pemalang area and finally returned to Cirebon to form another Buntet islamic boarding school in an area that was not in harmony, namely in the Manis Block, Depok Pesantren, Mertapada Kulon Village.

The relics are proof that the Buntet Islamic Boarding School was previously built in Kedung Malang Village, Buntet Village, which can be seen based on the existence of a tomb in the area. It is said that it is the tomb of a student in the time of Mbah Muqoyyim who died while fishing. Currently, the tomb is in a plantation located close to each other using the primary road of Buntet Village. The community is more or less familiar with the location with the name of the tomb of the student. Until now, the tomb is still often visited, especially by new students who are guided exclusively by caregivers, to be able to get to know the location of the first Buntet Islamic Boarding School.

After the first Pesantren Buntet was bombarded by the Dutch. Mbah Muqoyyim emphasized the leadership activities that had previously been built. To avoid arrest based on the Dutch, Mbah Muqoyyim traveled from one region to another. Although in relatively precarious conditions & became the primary target of the Dutch pursuit. Mbag Muqoyyim permanently continued Shia Islam in the areas he visited. Some of Mbah Muqoyyim's stopover sites during his escape period include Pesawahan Hamlet in Lemahabang, Tuk Karangsuwung, and Beji villages in Pemalang (Central Java). In the incident, Prince Santri was arrested by the Dutch. In fact, Prince Santri was still able to fight the Dutch. However, when the Dutch threatened to kill their parents and family at the Palace. The prince of the students determined surrender & was eventually banished to Ambon.

While escaping in Pesawahan Village, Mbah Muqoyyim & Kiai Ismail continued their struggle to establish Pesantren for the needs of the people. In Pesawahan, they create and improve various means of Pesantren needs such as mosques and student booths. It is said that in the establishment of a mosque in the Pasawahan Islamic Boarding School Complex, the karomah of Mbah Muqoyyim can be observed. Because when forming a mosque in the complex, Mbah Muqoyyim only used one teak tree btg. At that time, Mabh Muqoyyim ordered the students to reach into the tree using the Cirebon Javanese language " Jukuten bae jati ning kulo sa' wit bae" meaning: just take a teak tree in the west, just one tree. Because of the incident, the area where the teak tree was cut down, is currently known as Jati Sawit.
