History of the Establishment of Pondok PesantrenBustanu 'UsysyaqilQur'an(BUQ) Betengan, Demak.

The history of pesantren history of the pesantren, as people often understand, will not be separated based on the history of its founders and its kyai. We can understand this because kyai is an important element in a pesantren. In fact, it will not be called a pesantren if there is no kyainya.

That's how it happened at the Bustanu'Usysyaqil Qur'an (BUQ) islamic boarding school. Sourced according to the Brochure by-section

view BUQ 2008/2009, the author will try to describe the history of the establishment of this cottage. This cottage was built by a cleric' who had a brilliant history and nationality. He is a KH. R. Muhammad, son of KH. Mahfudz At-Tarmasi, a Javanese cleric who was active in the struggle of middle eastern scholars in the 18th century AD. This can be known from his books that were relatively influential on the scholars ofthat time. Among his books is Mauhibah Dzi al-Fadl Syarh Bafadhal in the field of Fiqh as many as four volumes (already printed) & refined using the fifth volumeusing the title TakmilahMauhibah Dzi al-Fadl (unprinted ). This book is a commentary on the book byIbn Hajar. In addition, his monumental work is Manhaj Dzawi an-Nadzr in the field of Musthalah Hadîts. There are many more of his works that have not been published.

In addition to in his works on top, the greatness of KH. Mahfudz was also seen in his protégés who became famous scholars in the Motherland. Among them is:KH. Hashim Asy'ari from Jombang East Java, founder ofNahdlatul 'Ulama, KH. Munawir from Krapyak Yogyakarta, founder of Pondok Pesantren Al Munawir Krapyak, KH. WahabHasbullah based on Jombang Jatim, caretaker of Pondok Pesantren

Bahrul Ulum, KH. Asnawi based on Kudus Central Java, and KH. Dalhar based on Watucongol Muntilan, Magelang.

The depth and breadth of KH science. Mahfudz created the iadi believed to be the mufti in Makkah & taught at the Haram Temple. His majesty seemed to exert its own influence on his son. Especially since childhood, R. Muhammad, the son has been accustomed to follow his father when teachingat the Grand Mosque and doing thawâf on Baitullâh. It turned out to arouse his love for the religious sciences. Once there arrived a student who was about to study at KH. Mahfudz. That person is KH. Munawir who later became the caretaker of Pondok PesantrenKrapyak Yogyakarta. It was KH. Munawir is on the hajj and his wife. Once realizedthat the students were able to recite the Qur'andengan once thawaf, KH. Mahfudz advised his son to be able to imitate him.

By the time R. Muhammad was 9 years old, KH. Mahfudz returned to Rahmatullah, so that R. Muhammad became an orphan. While Muslimah, her mother who was from Demak, had died first &buried inDemak. While KH. Mahfudz was buried in Makkah.According to the news that Sheikh Thohir told

KH. Muhdi Taslim (brother-in-law of R. Muhammad), during the hajj in 1963 AD, the body of KH. Mahfudzmasih intact. It is known that when the tomb was excavated to be moved to another place, finally, according to SheikhThohir, the transfer was not carried out because it was not possible to move the tomb of the person who was always guarded by God.

By leaving him to 2 parents, R. Muhammad was finally taken to the country, the KH. Munawwir, synchronously carry out the hajj & gain knowledge to THEKH. Mahfudz though is not obsolete. It was done byKH. Munawwir because he has been supervised by KH. Mahfudz to educate his son in the field of memorization of the Qur'an. When he arrived in the country, then he was handed over byKH. Munawwir on KH. Dimyati, KH's brother. Mahfudz, who was the caretaker of the then Tremas Lodge, KH. Dimyati handed over R. Muhammad to KH. Munawwir to be educated to memorize the Qur'an.

Later, R. Muhammad was taken KH. Munawwirs was a very beloved adopted son, even seemingly more affectionate towards his own sons. For at least 4 years, he studied at Pondok Krapyak, Yogyakarta. After gaining knowledge there, he was handed over

back to the uncle, KH. Dimyati at PondokTremas. At the Lodge, R. Muhammad was taken care of and supervised exclusively by the KH. Dimyati & assisted by KH. AliMa'shum, son of KH. Ma'shum is based on Lasem, which became the KH. Munawwir. Then, the completion of relatively many knowledge of the religion that was mastered, KH. Dimyati ordered himto tabarruk to KH. Ma'shum Lasem.

When R. Muhammad was in his teens, he often visited Demak to connect the ropes of silaturrahmide with his mother's grand family. At that time also, more or less around 1920 AD, in Demak there lived aulamahâfidz of the Qur'an named kyai Ali Hafizh who used to be called Kyai Apil. He is very well known and respected by the Demak community. Especially at that time, there were still very few scholars who were hafidzal-Qur'an. But, in about 1920 AD that too, he died globally. A merchant, H. taslim, who was a close friend of Kyai Apil, felt a great sense of loss. Because of this, he also wanted to get someone in-law hafizh who could teach the Qur'an to the people of Demak.

It didn't last long, H. Taslim's ideals were finally realized. His nephew, R. Muhammad, was a teenager who hafidz the Qur'an at the same time

mastering the sciences of belief . He also gave sympathy to her. Because of this, he tried to be able to match her with the mistake of a daughter named Fathimah. Finally the business and do'a he granted by Allah swt., R. Muhammad can be taken as amenantu.

After becoming H. Taslim's son-in-law, R. Muhammadmasih taught at Pondok Tremas for one year. After that he went to his in-laws' residence in Demak. His return was also accompanied by his students who memorized the Qur'an in Tremas. For about three years he lived with him while teaching the knowledge he was good at, especially the knowledge of the Qur'an to his students.

Seeing the increasing number of students learning on him. H. Taslim, by his in-laws, & more or less residents, encouraged him to establish a boarding school. This is also to accommodate the students, some of whom are housed in their in-laws' homes and some in residents' homes. Finally, in 1936, he founded a pesantren in the Betengan Bintoro Demak area. The establishment of the pesantren was due to the blessing of its teachers, namely KH.Ma'shum Lasem, KH. Masyur Popongan Klaten, & KH. Munawwir Krapyak Yogyakarta.

This message is named

by KH. Munawwir uses "Bustanu 'Usysyaqil Qur'an"which means the garden of the devotees of the Qur'an. This is where he later became independent in developing the knowledge he had gained. Here, he created a residence with his beloved wife who would later give him six people.

By moving to that place, he taught the Qur'an to the students earnestly and even his life was devoted to educating parasantri, he was known to be very disciplined. He was always present at the majlispengajian appropriately and did not end the recitation before the appointed hour. Moreover, in the month of Hospitality, his discipline is always emphasized. he alsotaught his students to always be diligent (mempeng = Java) which is one of the main capitals to achieve the success of studying. In fact, one of his studentsexplained the teaching to the author, "Ibarate concubineamu sedino ngendok peng limo, iku luweh slick tenimbang concubineamu samben dino poso, ning tura-turu tok!" in Indonesian roughly the meaning is "It's like you cook/eat five times a day as long as you want to be diligent and really on studying, then it's better than you every day fasting but just sleep!"

Besides the busy teaching of the students, KH. R.Muhammad always took the time to memorize the Qur'an in a day. In fact, according to some information that the author received, he was used to memorizing the Qur'an 30juz in a relatively short time, which is approximately thirty min.

Then in 1975 A.D., he returned to Rahmatullah, facing Allah swt.. However, when he was still in a state of illness, he had a chance to talk to his sister-in-law, KH. Muhdi Taslim to continue this BUQ Boarding School. At that time, he was blessed with four children, 3 women & one man. The only child was the youngest son and named Harir Muhammad. He was only one year old when he lived in the death of his father, KH. R. Muhammad.
