Madrasatul Muallimien al-Islamiyah (MMI) Pondok Pesantren Daar el-Qolam does not stand exclusively using the history of pesantren splendor &facilities we are witnessing in today. Daar el-Qolam grows and develops in harmony using tireless struggles, efforts based on the intention of worship to educate the lives of people, people who have intellectual intelligence, emotional intelligence & spiritual intelligence.

Pondok Pesantren Daar el-Qolam was founded on January 20, 1968 AD / 27 Ramadan 1318 H by Drs. K.H. Ahmad Rifa'i Arief on the orders of his father H. Qasad Mansyur. Kyai Rifa'i is an alumnus of Pondok Modern Gontor Ponorogo East Java in 1966. After his service as a teacher at the lodge for two years, he returned to his hometown to help his father manage the Ibtidaiyah Masyariqul Anwar Madrasa.

H. Qasad Mansyur wanted the existence of a secondary level educational institution so that the alumnus of the ibtidaiyah madrasah could continue their education to a higher level. For this reason, he ordered his eldest son to establish a pesantren, for example his alma mater. On this order, Kyai Rifa'i founded a pesantren named Daar el-Qolam, which terminologically means village of knowledge.

The early history of Daar el-Qolam is a story of struggle, devotion & hard work. By Kyai Rifa'i, an old kitchen & land gift from Hj. Pengki, was made the first learning place. The gift was given along with the construction of the mosque which was carried out by his father, H. Qosod Mansyur. Armed with this land, Kyai Rifa'i began to pioneer the ideal of a modern Islamic education forum to participate in advancing the nation's children. 22 students who came from family, relatives and the people were more or less Gintung who as the initial generation of students in this educational forum used all limitations and shortcomings.

Kyai Rifa'i plays all the gait of education &pedagogy. He became a leader, teacher, mentor and friend of his students. As time goes by, the number of students studying in Daar el-Qolam continues to grow according to year after year. Fruit based on long devotion, istiqamah attitude & sincerity for the trust given to hone the younger generation of Muslims with good quality education & pedagogy. For approximately 30 years of his service Kyai Rifai has made 4 educational institutions, namely The Daar el-Qolam Islamic Boarding School, La Tansa Islamic Boarding School, La Tansa Mashira Islamic and Economic College and La Lahwa Tourism Islamic Boarding School which at that time had not yet been completed. After the death of Kyai Rifa'i in 1997, the leadership of Daar el-Qolam was entrusted to his youngest brother K.H. Ahmad Shahiduddin along with Kyai Rifa'i's first son, K.H. Adrian Mafatihullah Karim, MA & his youngest sister, Dra. Hj. Enah Huwaenah.

In the context of the application of the mandate as well as optimization & regeneration in 2003 La Tansa Islamic Boarding School, La Tansa Mashira College & La Lahwa Tourism Islamic Boarding School were handed over to the sons / daughters of Kyai Rifa'i led by kyai Adrian Mafatihullah Karim.

For all the efforts of the next leaders, the institutional capacity both according to quality, vehicles and educational infrastructure is getting higher rapidly. Daar el-Qolam developed into a current Islamic education forum with a grand pesantren format with the characteristics of a pesantren that stands above & for all groups.

Nowadays, Daar el-Qolam Islamic Boarding School has grown rapidly to house 4 educational institutions, namely Daar el-Qolam 1, 2, three &4. As an effort to regenerate the leadership driven by Kyai Syahiduddin became the first mandate, then Daar el-Qolam in 2009 was mandated to lead the KH. Nahrul Ilmi Arief to lead Daar el-Qolam 1 & 4. While Daar el-Qolam 2 to KH. Odi Rosihuddin and Daar el-Qolam three to al-Ustadz Zahid Purna Wibawa.

All Daar el-Qolam are racing against each other carrying out the vision and mission of pesantren as stated in the Panca Jiwa &Motto Pondok to educate their students to have a sincere, simple, independent, ukhuwah Islamiyah and freedom spirit. As well as instilling 4 main characters, namely: virtuous, able-bodied, knowledgeable and free-thinking. the five souls and 4 mottoes as the foundation and philosophy in every student activity which is poured into the form of life discipline, worship discipline, Arabic & English language discipline, leadership and equilibrium of worldly insight and ukhrawi also teaches Islamic values that are polite, moderate, tolerant & inclusive.

As an effort to respond to the changing and evolving dynamics of education, each Daar el-Qolam has its own differentiation, namely Daar el-Qolam 1 &4 with a 6-year learning event (1) adopting the curriculum of the Ministry of Religion at the Tsanawiyah and Aliyah levels. (two) focusing on the study of Islamic sciences (Islamic studies) and Arabic based on Islamic insights and knowledge in the Middle East and Islamic higher education in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Daar el-Qolam two have differentiation (1) fostering a scientific culture through research (two) ICT-based learning (3) strengthening competence in the natural sciences (ulum kauniyah) & social sciences (ulum ijtimaiyah) which is in line with the curriculum of the Ministry of Education & Culture.

The Daar el-Qolam 3 with a study period of 3 and 6 years has differentiation (1) strengthening of substantive and essential values according to Islamic teachings (2) strengthening competence in the natural sciences (ulum kauniyah) and social sciences (ulum ijtimaiyah) which is based on the curriculum of the Ministry of Education & Culture (3) to become a facilitator of international class programs that all students can participate in in Daar el-Qolam. All the differentiations in the four Daar el-Qolam above, remain based on the principle of al-Muhafadzah ala al-qodim al-shalih wa al-akhdz bi al-jadid al-aslah ( Keeping the obsolete values that are still good & reaching into new values that are more like)

Daar el-Qolam continues to strive to form a strong system, a system that is responsive to the dynamics &development of educational news and information. Like the message of the founder of this pesantren " Daar el-Qolam nir can not be famous because of its kyai, Daar el-Qolam must be famous for the system contained in it".
