A BRIEF HISTORY OF ISLAM IN BANDUNG DISTRICT
The Oldest Mosque in Bandung Regency to be Demolished: A Silent Witness to the Spread of Islamic History
The oldest mosque in Bandung Regency , namely the Mahmud Great Mosque in Rahayu Village, Margaasih District, will be demolished . The Mahmud Mosque is thought to have stood since the 17th or 18th century. This mosque was the first to be established in Mahmud Village. Secretary of the Mahmud Site Foundation, Husni Muhtar, said that at the end of the 17th century, Grandmother Dalem Haji Abdul Manaf lived in Mahmud Village.
It was during this era that the Great Mahmud Mosque was founded.
"Because he is a Muslim, he clearly needs a mosque. The end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century built a mosque ," said Husni, Wednesday, September 15, 2021.
Because there are not too many residents, the size of the mosque is also not large. Even as far as Husni's knowledge, in 1965, the Great Mahmud mosque only measured 5X7 meters.
"In 1986, renovations were carried out," he said.
The administrator of the Mahmud Site Grave at that time was Abah Uya. Therefore, not only renovation, the Great Mahmud Mosque was also enlarged by looking at the growing population.
"The size is 12X21 meters, since then it has never been renovated again," he said. Mosque

Similar to the houses of residents in Mahmud Village, the Mahmud Grand Mosque also has the concept of a house on stilts which has a house under the house.
The floor uses boards and on the walls using woven bamboo.
Since then until now, the building structure has been maintained.
Mahmud Grand Mosque will be demolished
On Wednesday 12 September 2021, or 35 years since the renovation in 1986, the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Mahmud Great Mosque by Bandung Regent Dadang Supriatna was carried out.
Not without reason, apart from having not renovated for a long time, Husni said, the population of Kampung Mahmud continues to grow, so the 12X21 meter mosque is no longer enough to accommodate people to worship.
"Last Friday, the entire extended family of Mahmud's descendants made a pilgrimage to the Tomb of Grandfather Dalem Haji Abdul Manaf, asking for permission to dismantle the mosque for renovation," he said.
Not only pilgrimages, the extended family of Mahmud's descendants also performs special rituals, one of which is reading 30 juz of the Qur'an.
" AlhamdulillahIt's okay, even the Regent of Bandung can come here," he said.
Until finally, on Wednesday 15 September 2021, the groundbreaking was carried out as a sign of the latest construction of the Mahmud Great Mosque.
The oldest mosque in Bandung Regency will be demolished and replaced with a stronger building structure. It is planned that the Mahmud Grand Mosque will be built on two floors with a construction time of 1 year.
