20th WISDOM OF WISDOM
Shaykh Ibn 'Atha'illah said:
الَتُكَ الْأَعْمَالَ لَى الْفَرَاغِ اتِ النَّفْسِ.
" Postponing doing charity in order to wait for more leisure opportunities, including a sign of self-ignorance. ”
Delaying doing charity until the completion of your work is a sign of your stupidity, because of your lust.
If there is a studentstill more concerned with the work of the world than the deeds of the hereafter; prioritize the work of the world so as to prevent or hinder charity or worship before Allah; or want to delay doing good until he finishes his worldly work, and he murmurs in his heart "if I have finished this work, then I will do charity (worship)", then this shows his stupidity. Because, along with the many delays in doing charity, it results in time consuming until the opportunity runs out. Because the coming of death is unexpected, and no one knows when he will take his life. In addition, because the work of the world will never end, one job will attract another job, even if it is finished there must be another will.
There are three things that make a person stupid:
First , preferring this world to doing good deeds in the hereafter, and this is not what the believer does.
Second , by procrastinating charity, he feels he still has life left for tomorrow, so he is a thūl-ul-amal (long dream). And that thūl-ul-amal can prevent repentance, make love of the world, not love the hereafter.
Third , if he has completed his task or work, he will have other worldly purposes and goals. That way his desire to worship becomes weak, he is just wasting time and feels able to complete the work with his own (strength) self. This shows the low level of etiquette towards Allah. In fact, a student is obliged to do something that can lead him to ( adhirat ) Allah, before his time runs out. For verily time is like a sword, if you do not use it, it will draw you.
