Al Hikam wisdom 12

Hikmah - 12 Uzlah is a meditation field

 مَا نَفَعَ الْقَلْبَ شَيْئٌ مِثْلَ عُزْلَةٍ يَدْخُلُ بِهَا مِيدَان فِكْرَةٍ

It means :

There is nothing beneficial to the heart, as it is to enter the field of meditation

Explanation :

This wisdom gives guidance to people who fail to find answers with the strength of their intellect. That is by way of uzlah or isolation from the crowd. If in a normal state the mind is not able to break the deadlock, then in this state of uzlah the heart

able to help the mind to meditate, contemplate things that cannot be digested by the common mind.

Uzlah is not done forever, but is a way or a form of spiritual training to strengthen the spirit so that the mind can receive the light of the heart. Because without the light of the heart, it is difficult for the intellect to understand divine matters and true faith and monotheism will not be obtained. In Sufism, the practice of uzlah is done systematically, the practice is called suluk. People who undergo suluk are called salik or student. The salik conducts khalwat under the guidance of his teacher. Training in suluk to separate the salik from the hijab due to the temptation of the life of the crowd around it. So that his soul will be more secure and peaceful in his relationship with God.

In the study of divinity, the intellect must submit and admit its weakness.

The mind must be aware that it is not capable of understanding supernatural matters.

Therefore the mind needs to ask the heart for help. The heart needs to be sharpened so that it shines

. In the nature of the process of sharpening the heart, the intellect does not need to argue much. Arguments of reason will slow down the sharpening of the heart.

That's why it is recommended to practice meditation in order to sharpen the heart. In the atmosphere of isolation, lust becomes weak and reason no longer follows the guidance of lust.

So that is where the heart can emit a comprehensive light that reaches the supernatural realm.

When the supernatural is clear, then the mind can understand divine things that could not be reached before.
