al hikam wisdom 24

"Life in this world is only temporary. Don't be restless and upset"

"Don't be surprised if you experience many trials in this world, because you will get a worthy reward from those trials (in the hereafter)"

This wisdom teaches us to be wise in facing the trials that come our way. How to deal with problems with an open heart. Proverb: If you have never tasted the bitterness of life, then you will not taste the sweetness of life. To taste sweet, you have to taste bitter first.

Then what is the wisdom of Allah in predestining His servants with various trials? Every day comes one after another, as if life is surrounded by calamities? The answer lies in the following two options.

First, that God deliberately made this world a special area for our self-development. God deliberately forces people to live their lives according to the rules that God has set. God arranged the world that way. The goal is for people to get used to doing worship according to their own efforts. God delights in the success of hard work. So it is very clear, if life in this world will not escape trials. Life in this world will never be as straight as a toll road. Even though in your world you are an honorable person, for example, Allah will not escape your approach. You are still obliged to pray, zakat, hajj and others. Those of different religions will not escape from Allah's ل. They will be tested with severe calamities such as death, famine and so on. In QS 3:186, QS 2:155-157, QS 25:20, Allah mentions the kinds of trials that will be imposed on humans. Are they patient or not. The point is, whoever we are, wherever we are, will definitely never pass the test of Allah, even in every inch of life in this world.

You will truly be tested against your wealth and yourself. And (also) you will surely hear from those who were given the Book before you and from those who associate partners with Allah, many disturbances which hurt the heart. If you are patient and pious, then indeed this is a matter that should be prioritized. (Quran 3:186)

(155) And indeed We will give you a trial, with a little fear, hunger, lack of wealth, soul and fruit. And give glad tidings to those who are patient.

(156) (i.e.) those who when disaster strikes, they say: "Inna lillahi wa innaa ilaihi raaji'uun".

(157) It is they who receive the perfect blessing and mercy from their Lord, and they are the ones who are guided. (Qur'an 2:55-157)

And We did not send messengers before you, but they did eat food and walked in the markets. And We have made some of you a trial for others. Will you be patient?; and your Lord is all-seeing. (Qur'an 25:20)

Second, we must know that the life of this world is only temporary. So, all kinds of tests in it are also temporary. Because after that Allah has prepared the next phase; namely the afterlife. Well, in the afterlife, this is where the real essence of life lies. Life in this second world will be beautiful if in the first life we can pass it correctly according to Allah's provisions. So make life in this world a field. Fields that must be treated well, in order to reap abundant results in the future. But unfortunately, many people prefer to take care of their fields when they are getting old. This is an erroneous assumption. Many people realize the meaning of life when their age and physical condition are no longer productive. Realized because age is only an inch away. Try to look at the worshipers in the mushalla and mosques, how many young people pray there? It's very little.

Back to the discussion. So, if you live in a miserable world, don't be upset, because the world is not a recommended place to have fun. Life in the world is only a place of trials and training. Not a fun place. The world is a place of trials, deprivation, hunger, and so on. The solution --> Patience.

(1)    Glory be to God In whose hand is all the kingdoms, and He has power over all things,

(2)    Who made death and life, so that He might test you, which of you is better in deed. And He is Mighty, Most Forgiving (Al-Mulk: 1-2)

If the world is a temporary place. Then the hereafter is a place that is eternal and eternal. In order to understand the theory presented by Ibn Athaillah, let's look at the different perspectives of Muslims vs. non-Muslims in seeing the world.

Muslims who see the world with the eyes of their hearts understand that the life of the world is only temporary, full of trials and nesting places of calamity. When he gets a disaster he realizes not to be upset. Because the life of the world is a place of calamity. If you want to be good, go to heaven. The belief that he holds that after life in the world there is still another life, makes him not upset when he gets a disaster/trial. Because, in his belief, people who are patient when they get a disaster will get a great reward that will be received later in the hereafter. So, if later there is a great reward that will be obtained for those who are patient in facing calamities, why be upset. Just a waste of time isn't it?!

Likewise, if he gets a favor, he is aware to be grateful, because in this world that should be a place of calamity he actually gets a favor. That means, while living in this world, Muslims who understand their religion will never be confused, stuffy, worried, upset, and so on. They are all delicious. Because everything has conditions. If he is hit by a disaster he is patient, if he gets a favor he is grateful.

So, if you want fuel to go up, you want fuel to go down, you don't have to worry. Just focus on your potential to deal with it, not even reduce yourself. Being ready to face all the bad possibilities of worldly life is an attitude that must be instilled in all Muslim hearts.

The Prophet once said, "The things of these believers are amazing. All of their things are of good value. There is none other than them. If they are blessed with the pleasure of being grateful, this is good. If suffering is afflicted with patience, this is also good." (HR. Muslim)

Now let's compare it to how non-Muslims perceive the life of this world. For them, living in this world is the only life. They don't believe in the afterlife in this world. Therefore, while in this world they must be happy. Must achieve everything. Can't fail. Can't be miserable. Life in this world they are setting on one direction that must exist, namely all desires must be achieved. Point! They do not have the concept of patience, gratitude, reward, sin, heaven, hell, which are believed to be like Muslims. His heart was not prepared for it. The result is that, if a disaster strikes them, they are stressed, upset, and some even commit suicide. When they fail, they don't have a heart to rely on. On the other hand, if they get pleasure/success, celebrate it blindly,

Such is the difference in the perspective of Muslims vs non-Muslims in seeing the life of the world. The two are very different. The effect will not be the same. What is important to understand, too, is that happiness in this world is completely not measured by how much pleasure one gets. Likewise, the misery of living in this world is not measured by how poor the enjoyment it gets.

Rich poor. Failure-Success is not a mathematical formula that must be used in measuring happiness. This is not the law of causality. So many rich, famous, smart, great people, but their lives are not peaceful. His heart is dry. His soul is restless. Likewise, there are so many people who outwardly have nothing, poor, not famous, ordinary people, but their lives are peaceful, their hearts are calm. The question is, why is that so? Because happiness is entirely in the heart. The outer aspect is only an illusion, the essential is in the heart. It is the heart where the light of Allah dwells. It is in this heart that Allah expands the life of his servant.

So, tips for those who want to live happily and peacefully, clean the heart, make peace with the heart from the harsh life of the world. Draw close to Allah.

Such is Wisdom-24. Hopefully useful and along with the guidance of Allah.

Wassalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh
