The life history of Sunan Kalijaga is not as smooth as imagined. Before becoming a preacher, he was a bromocorah alias criminal. The history of Sunan Kalijaga's life crosses the boundaries of the successive eras of the kingdoms in Java. He witnessed changes since the end of the Majapahit Kingdom, then the Demak Sultanate, the Pajang Sultanate, to the early Islamic Mataram Sultanate.
Born with the name Raden Said around 1450 AD, Sunan Kalijaga was the son of Tumenggung Wilatikta, the Regent of Tuban. In his youth, Raden Said was known as a naughty teenager who liked to gamble, drink alcohol, steal, and commit many disgraceful acts. This made his father who was a noble and ruler of Tuban embarrassed to have a delinquent child. As a result, Raden Said was kicked out of the house by his parents. Raden Said's delinquency actually escalated.
He became a bromocorah alias criminal. His job is to cause trouble and riots, even Raden Said is said to have killed people. One time, Raden Said was hit by a stone, the person he was going to rob was Sunan Bonang. Because of Sunan Bonang's influence, Raden Said finally realized and repented, and no longer confiscated property and committed despicable acts.

Dewi Saroh is the daughter of Maulana Ishaq, while Queen Kano is the daughter of the Kingdom of Kediri. Regarding Siti Zaenab, who is married to Sunan Kalijaga, there are several versions regarding this figure. Mohd. Faizal Harun through a book entitled Tasawuf and Tarekat: History of its Development and Stream in Malaysia (2015), for example, mentions that Siti Zaenab is the younger brother of Sunan Gunung Jati.
Meanwhile, in the Biography of Sunan Gunung Djati: The Religious Organizer in the Land of Sunda(2020) compiled by Wawan Hernawan and Ading Kusdiana, in the footnote section a statement is written that Siti Zaenab is someone who still has brotherly ties to Syarif Hidayat (Sharif Hidayatullah or Sunan Gunung Jati). In the same book sourced from the Cirebon Chronicle quoting Purwaka Caruban Nagari , a different version is revealed, namely Sunan Kalijaga married to Queen Winahon, who is said to be the daughter of Sunan Gunung Jati, although in the end they divorced. There is another version regarding the identity of Syarifah Zaenab, who is one of Sunan Kalijaga's wives.
F. Taufiq El Jauquene in the book Demak Bintoro: The First Islamic Empire in Java from Glory to Fall(2020) and several other references write that Syarifah Zaenab is the daughter of Sheikh Siti Jenar. Sunan Kalijaga had several children, including Watiswara or Sunan Penggung and Sunan Muria. The two children continued the da'wah initiated by Sunan Kalijaga. There is no definite record that says when Sunan Kalijaga died. His tomb is located in the village of Kadilangu, approximately 3 km from the Great Mosque of Demak.
