Mahfudzot Class 2 KMI Gontor along with its meaning and explanation (Part 2)

أَدَبُ الْمُجَالَسَةِ

Adab in gathering (associating)

إِنْ أَنْتَ جَالَسْتَ الرِّجَالَ ذَوِي النُّهَى # فَاجْلِسْ إِلَيْهِمْ بِالْكَمَالِ مُؤَدَّبًا

If you associate with knowledgeable people,

So associate with them with the perfection of adab

وَاسْمَعْ حَدِيْثَهُمْ إِذَا هُمْ حَدَّثُوْا # وَاجْعَلْ حَدِيْثَكَ - إِنْ نَطَقْتَ - مُهَذَّبًا

And hear their words when they speak,

And make your words – if you say – full of courtesy.

Syarah / Explanation and Conclusion :

This is our basic guideline in gathering and associating, especially when we are together with ahlul ilmi people, so we should maintain our adab and manners. That is why it is said that:

الأَدَبُ فَوْقَ الْعِلْمِ

"Adab is above knowledge"

In addition, we often hear people say that "intelligence is not everything, morals and personality are the main thing".

What does it mean if a person is given a lot of knowledge but is poor in manners? what's the point if someone gets 100 marks but can't respect the teacher who taught him? We really need to imitate the Prophet Muhammad who was sent to perfect morals.
