 32nd WISDOM OF WISDOM

" The root of all immorality, negligence and lust is the indulgence of lust. And the root of all obedience, vigilance, and virtue is the restraint of lust. ”

Shaykh Ibn 'Atha'illah said:

أَصْلُ كُلِّ مَعْصِيَةٍ وَ غَفْلَةٍ وَ شَهْوَةٍ الرِّضَا عَنِ النَّفْسِ

" The root of all immorality, negligence and lust is the indulgence of lust. "

The root of all kinds of immorality, neglect of remembering Allah and lust is being willing to obey one's desires.

The 'ulama' who are experts in nature have agreed that the root of all kinds of immorality and turning away from Allah is to indulge in lust. Knowing the passions is obligatory, because a person will not be able to fight his passions if he does not know it. Lust is a thing that is visible and becomes the power of human life. It becomes the motion or silence of the behavior of the human body, which illuminates the body. When he goes out, the light is cut off on the zhāhir and the body's soul, when it is only asleep then the light is only cut off from the zhāhir of the body, and this is called lust rūḥ-ul-ḥayawān .

There are seven qualities of lust:

Ammārah lust , ie lust that tends to physical nature, tends to pleasure or temporary pleasure. What is meant by lust here is wanting to eat well, sleep well, follow the actions of shaitan and enjoy the world. The world according to the lust of ammārah is like a bride who is decorated and prepared and lust is eager to embrace her.

Lawwāmah lust, lust that is present when remembering Allah, carrying out His commands and doing good. When doing a despicable act, this lust blames itself for the wrongdoing, then corrects it.

Nafsu mulhimah , lust that eliminates anxiety, adīts nafsi (whispers of lust). This lust often follows the inspiration of the angels about the truth and follows what Allah has commanded. If, the ignorance of lust remains, he becomes corrupted, even though his body is corrupted, his lust remains.

Muthma'innah lust, lust that shines because of the light of the heart, is able to get rid of despicable qualities, such as 'ujub and takabbur ' , has good qualities such as tawādhu', ikhlāsh and others, is calm or accepts what Allah has given, does not sway .

Nafsu rādhiyah , feels that he has melted away, because he is something fanā' (111 )), he becomes clear withtajalliyto Allah.

Mardhiyyah lust , can be achieved by maqām baqā' (122 ).

Lust 'ubūdiyyah , lust that likes to serve or serve, that is, to do all the 'deeds that are devoted to Allah.

Lust cannot be perfect, nor can it rise to the highest degree except after performing suluk by following one of the tharīqat that can lead to Allah. So, you should look for a tharīqat teacher ( murshid ) who can show you the way. If you do not seek or have a teacher, you will not be able to reach this level even though your 'worship is like the 'worship of jinn and humans.

Therefore, there is a difference between sālik and 'ābid . Sometimes an 'ābid performs 'ibādah for 500 years, unable to continue the journey, which the sālik can take in just one trip. And all of them can not be achieved except by those who have experienced it. The closest tharīqat is tharīqat naqsyabandiyyah (This is the opinion of the author -SH). Fighting the desires of fardhu 'ain is legal, this is what is called a great war.

The lust of ammārah has the seven heads of the shaytan;

First; lust,

Second; ghadhab (hate and anger),

Third; takabbur (he feels better than others),

Fourth ; spiteful,

Fifth; arrogant (both boasting of body (physical) or spiritual like 'knowledge, arrogant verbally because more dhikr, a lot of praise and others),

Sixth ; greedy,

Seventh; riya' .

That desire can be quenched through riyādhah , avoiding human gatherings when eating and drinking. Ghadhab can be extinguished with gracefulness. Takabbur can be killed by the nature of tawādhu'. Envy can be killed through the belief that the owner of all that exists is only Allah, humans are only His servants, and Allah gives something to His servants according to His will. Arrogance and greed can be killed through qanā'ah – receiving (what is given). Riyā' can be extinguished through ikhlāsh . Therefore, you should persevere in killing lust before your soul is uprooted.

Know that the person who does not know his lust while he is still alive will never know his lust except after the lust has separated from his body (death), so that he cannot know his Lord. As Allah says:

" Whoever is blind in this world (does not know the nature of his lust), then in the Hereafter also blind (from Allah's ma'rifat) ." (Surat al-Isra' [17]: 72).

We will not be able to know or detect lust except by the light which Allah puts it in our hearts, and Allah will not put light in the heart of a servant except the servant who holds fast to the shar'at , who holds fast to the teachings of the Prophet, as well as riyādhah , and believes in himself. - mujāhadah and keep his heart away from loving the world, away from the despicable qualities that have been explained, and fill with praiseworthy qualities according to the syara' such as tawādhu', ikhlāsh and others. And all of them can be obtained through tarbiyyah or the teaching of a murshid teacher . Don't think the result is that the light goes through a lotmuthāla'ah or studying the books of tasawwuf or other, he will not be able to even with mujāhadah .

Don't be afraid of the death of lust, the nature of lust is like a baby, if weaned it will obey, even if it's hard for a short time. Imam Bushiriy says:

Lust is like a baby, if you let it grow it will suckle, if you wean it, it will wean.

Shaykh Ibn 'Atha'illah said:

وَ أَصْلُ كُلِّ طَاعَةٍ وَ يَقَظَةٍ وَ عِفَّةٍ عَدَمُ الرِّضَا مِنْكَ عَنْهَا

“ And the root of all obedience, vigilance, and virtue is the restraint of lust. ”

The source of all obedience and know God because you do not want to indulge .

By curbing lust, you will get obedience (to yourself) and Allah's ma'rifat, because by not obeying the desires of lust, he does not want to beautify himself and does not want to place (all desires) on his lust. Whoever is like this, means that he is a person who is aware of his heart to the path of truth, if the fire of lust has been extinguished from within him, he will have a just nature . If it is 'just' , it will stay away from things that are forbidden by Allah and keep or carry out all His commands. This is what is meant by successful obedience.

Shaykh Dhiyā'-ud-Dn bin Mushthafā said:

O murīd, know that the commendable deed is achieved in three ways:

Fear Allah, in a state of vagueness or zahir, i.e. in a quiet state or in a crowd.

Be willing to taqdīr (determined) Allah, a little or a lot.

Treating Allah's creatures well, in front and behind. Don't just act nice in front of someone, while behind their back you're gossiping.

The greatest trials are three:

First , fear of creatures.

Second , sad in thinking about sustenance.

Third , follow the passions.

There are three greatest blessings and health :

First , believe in Allah in all things or circumstances.

Second , be willing to Allah 's destiny in every situation, healthy or sick, rich or poor.

Third, protect (self from) human ugliness.

Wallahu a'lam .
