Wisdom - 1 Manifest Practice and Mood

Kitab Al Hikam - Wisdom 1

مِنْ عَلَامَات الْاِعْتِمَادِ عَلَى الْعَمَلِ نُقْصَانِ الرَّجَاءِ عِنْدَ وُجُوْدِ الْزَّلَلِ

It means

Some of the signs of depending on charity, is the lack of hope in Allah when something goes wrong / sin

Explanation

Imam Ibn Athoillah started his first wisdom while inviting us to reflect on it

Charity is divided into two types, namely external charity and inner charity.

Everyone can do the same dhohir charity, but the mood associated with that charity will not be the same.

If outward deeds affect the inner atmosphere/heart, then the heart depends on outward deeds. If the heart is influenced by the deeds of the heart, then the heart relies on deeds even if only in the heart.

A heart that is free from the support of any charity, both external and internal, is a heart that depends and leans on Allah SWT and surrenders completely to Him. Such a heart will not use charity as a means of exchange to get something.

Such a person will not limit the power and mercy of God to submit to human will.

God who stands alone does things according to His own will without being influenced by other parties. Therefore, a wise person will not make charity a bargaining position with His Lord or force God to submit to human will.

Humans who rely on dhohir practices are oriented to worldly gains, while humans who rely on inner practices are oriented to ukhrawi gains. Both of them believe that his deeds determine what he will get both in this world and in the hereafter.

Confidence like that makes the lack of dependence solely on Allah SWT. So everyone can judge the extent of their dependence on God or on good deeds, both outward and inward.

Then we can see our heart when it falls into error / sin . If the sin makes a tip to despair, it means that we are still dependent on charity and desperate for His mercy and help. That is a sign of weakness in relying only on Allah.

God's Word in Surah Yusuf: 87

O my children, go and find news about Yusuf and his brother (Bunyamin) and do not despair of God's mercy and help. Indeed, no one despairs of God's help except the group of disbelievers.

The verse explains that believers depend solely on Allah under any circumstances. Depending on Allah does not make the heart despair in the face of life's challenges. Sometimes what is hoped for and desired does not produce any results does not mean not receiving gifts from Allah.

Something we like is not necessarily good for us and something we hate is not necessarily bad for us. Because we don't know while Allah is All-Knowing of everything.

Such belief makes believers steadfast in facing challenges and trials and trials of life and never despair. And they believe that if everything is relied on Allah then all their deeds will not be in vain because charity is part of Allah's commandment.

Wallau a'lam
