A Brief History of Prophet Hud

The Story of Prophet Hud

Miracles of Prophet Hud, History & Dakwah Journey - Believing in prophets and messengers is the fourth pillar of faith for Muslims. So it is highly recommended for us not only to know the 25 prophets and apostles, but also to know the history and believe in it.

There is a lot of wisdom, lessons, and examples that we get by studying the stories of the Prophets and Messengers.

Faith in Prophets and Messengers can foster a sense of faith in Allah Ta'ala through the universe, because they believe and believe in various extraordinary events that happened in the time of previous Prophets and Messengers.

Besides that, it can also foster enthusiasm in worship because we understand the end of the life of the wrongdoers who disobeyed Allah Ta'ala at the time of the prophet.

In Islam, there are 25 Prophets and Messengers who must be trusted and believed in, starting with the Prophet Adam 'alaihissalam, until the last one is Prophet Muhammad Shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam. For the discussion this time specifically commenting in depth about Prophet Hud ' alaihissalam.Prophet Hud Alaihissalam is one of the 25 prophets sent by Allah Ta'ala who received revelations for himself. Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam who is the fourth prophet comes from the Arabs, precisely the tribe of 'Ad. The story of Prophet Hud's preaching to the people of 'Ad can also be found through the book of Prophet Hud which is below.

Narrated from Abu Dzar, other prophets who came from the Arab nation besides Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam are, Prophet Saleh 'alaihissalam, Prophet Shu'aib 'alaihissalam, and Prophet Muhammad Shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam.

Since childhood, the Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam was known as a figure who had very commendable behavior including being honest, trustworthy, virtuous, hard working, and very wise and friendly in getting along with friends like him around him.

The story of the life and journey of the Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam himself is mentioned in the Qur'an. The name "Hud" is even immortalized as the name of one of the letters in the Qur'an, namely the eleventh letter. As narrated in the Qur'an Surah Hud verse 50 which mentions the Prophet Hud 'Peace be upon him and the people of 'Ad.

"And to the people of 'Ad (We sent) their brother, Hud. He said, 'O my people! Worship Allah, you have no god but Him. (All this time) you are just making things up.'" (QS Hud verse 50).

"O my people! I am not asking you for this reward. My reward is only from God who created me. Don't you understand?” (QS Hud verse 51).

During his lifetime the Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam occupied an area called Al-Ahqaf, precisely in the north of Hadramaut, located between Yemen and Oman. Hadramaut is a very beautiful area because it has fertile soil.

Many agricultural products grow well from the fertile soil of Hadramaut. In addition to being believed to be the birthplace of Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam, Hadramaut is also believed to be the area where Prophet Saleh AS was born.

Not only does it keep the fact that it is the birthplace of Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam and Prophet Saleh 'alaihissalam, but Hadramaut also has another special feature, which is that there is a holy building for Muslims called Qabr Hud (Hud's Tomb). Near Qabr Hud there is a mosque that is always visited by many pilgrims, especially on the 11th of Sha'ban.

The history of the Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam is very closely related to the people of 'Ad, namely the people who lived at the time of the Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam and are the oldest people after the destruction of the tyrants to the Prophet Noah 'alaihissalam.

It is narrated that Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam is the grandson of Prophet Noah 'alaihissalam or can be called also a descendant of Sam bin Nuh (the 'Ad). The people of 'Ad who lived at the time of the Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam were known as people who lived very comfortably and in prosperity.

Their lives are prosperous because they are overflowing with fertile and green agricultural fields, healthy and abundant livestock, and abundant and fresh water. In addition, the stature of the 'Ad people is also known to be large and strong so that it is very beneficial for them in their daily work.

However, the enjoyment and various blessings bestowed on the people of 'Ad did not immediately make them grateful and worship Allah Ta'ala. The people of 'Ad do not recognize Allah Ta'ala as their God, just like the people before them (the people of Prophet Noah) did. They worshiped their own idols and named them Shamud and Alhattar.

You can also find the complete story about Prophet Hud AS to the people of Aad in the book {SERI KISAH NABI} Sang Penyeryu Kaum 'Aad: Nabi Hud AS below.

Prophet Hud's preaching journey

The main target of the da'wah carried out by the Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam is the 'Ad people who live around the residence of the Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam, namely in Al-Ahqaf. It is the duty of Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam to call for teachings to worship Allah Ta'ala and avoid polytheism. The 'Ad people are known to worship idols that they made themselves. As shown in Al-Qur'an Surat Hud verse 52.

"And (Hud said), 'O my people! Ask your Lord for forgiveness and then repent to Him, He will surely send down a very heavy rain, He will add strength to your strength, and do not turn to be sinners.'" (QS Hud verse 52).

Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam called on the people of 'Ad to leave the idols they were worshiping and turn to worship Allah Ta'ala. Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam also showed evidence of the power and oneness of Allah Ta'ala to the people of 'Ad so that they could choose the right path.

But the people of 'Ad did not believe in the Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam and did not want to leave their idol. Even the people of 'Ad accused the Prophet Hud 'Peace be upon him that he was sick with madness.

"They (the 'Ad) said, 'O Hud! You have not brought us any clear evidence, and we will not abandon our gods because of your words and we will not believe you, we only say that some of our gods have inflicted madness on you.' He (Hud) replied, 'Indeed I bear witness to Allah and bear witness that I am free from what you associate with.'” (Surah Hud verse 54).

Punishment for the Disobedient People of 'Ad

In the aftermath of the behavior of the people of 'Ad who were greedy and arrogant and opposed the Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam, Allah Ta'ala gave them a warning in the form of a long drought. The drought that hit the people of 'Ad had made them restless and worried.

They are afraid that their crops will fail and cause starvation. That loophole was used by Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam to convince the people of 'Ad to abandon idols and turn to repent and worship Allah Ta'ala.

But the words of Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam were completely ignored by them. According to what is written in the Qur'an, chapter Al-A'raf verse 70.

"They said, 'Are you coming to us, so that we worship only God and leave what our ancestors used to worship? So prove your threat to us, if you are right!'" (QS Al-A'raf verse 70).

As a result of the obstinacy of the people of 'Ad who continued to oppose the Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam and associate with Allah Ta'ala, then Allah showed His power by bringing thick black clouds.

The people of 'Ad cried with joy because they thought the cloud was a sign of the coming rain that would save their fields and farms from drought.

However, in the midst of the cheers of the happy people of 'Ad at the arrival of the cloud, the Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam warned that the black cloud that was coming was not a good sign of rain.

Otherwise, it is a bad sign that punishment will come from Allah Ta'ala to the people of 'Ad for associating partners with Allah Ta'ala. But once again the warning delivered by Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam was ignored by them. The people of 'Ad still do not want to believe all the words and ask for proof of the warning of the Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam.

Until finally Allah the Exalted as the Power really brought punishment to the people of 'Ad with the arrival of a terrible hurricane. The hurricane immediately knocked down and swept away whatever was there such as houses, buildings, idols, fields, livestock, and various other property belonging to the people of 'Ad.

The strong typhoon was finally able to destroy the people of 'Ad along with the idols they worshipped. So terrible, it is narrated that the wind that lasted for eight days and seven nights destroyed everything like dust. The story of the typhoon that befell the people of 'Ad is told in surah Al-Haqqah verses 6-8.

"As for the 'Ad tribe, they were destroyed by a very cold typhoon. God inflicted the wind on them for seven nights and eight days continuously; then you saw the people of 'Ad at that time lying dead, like the trunks of palm trees that have been empty (stale). So do you see anyone left among them?” (QS Al-Haqqah verses 6-8).

Then when there was a terrible hurricane that hit the people of 'Ad, what happened to the Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam and his followers? Of course they were saved by Allah Ta'ala.

Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam and his followers stayed at home without feeling the slightest danger from the hurricane. After what happened to 'Ad, finally the Prophet Hud 'alaihissalam and his followers moved to the Hadramaut area to stay there until he breathed his last.

Miracles of Allah Ta'ala to Prophet Hud

For those of you who are not familiar with the term miracle, a miracle is an extraordinary event, event, or ability possessed or happened to the Prophets and Apostles. Miracles were revealed and given directly by Allah Ta'ala to the Prophets and Apostles to prove that they were special people who were chosen to carry out da'wah to others. Miracles cannot be imitated by anyone so that He is different from magic. Magic can be learned and resisted, while miracles are not.
