A Magical Story: A Guardian Who Takes a Pilgrimage in an Instant

Hajj season is almost here. In Indonesia, this was marked by the departure of the first batch of Indonesian pilgrims in 1443 H/2022 AD on Saturday, June 4, 2022 yesterday. In addition to being a very sacred worship, the pilgrimage often leaves unique stories experienced by the pilgrims. In fact, it is not uncommon to find magical stories that cannot be made sense.

A great Moroccan Sufi, Sheikh Ibn 'Ajibah, wrote in a book entitled al-Fahrasat a miraculous story related to the pilgrimage. There was a wali who was nicknamed “Al-Hujjuji”, this wali was also the grandfather of Ibn 'Ajibah, his real name was al-Husayn ibn Abdillah al-Maghari. How did the nickname come from?

Shaykh Al-Hujjuji, like the saints in general, has extraordinary karomah . It is said that every year he performs Hajj in an unusual way. If pilgrims generally stay in Saudi Arabia until they complete the entire series of pilgrimages, then not with Al-Hujjuji, he still returns to Morocco after completing one ritual and returns to Saudi Arabia when he will continue other rituals. And the trip back and forth he did in just an instant.

Until one day, during the Eid al-Adha prayer, Al-Hujjuji was absent from the congregation, so people found out his whereabouts. He only appeared when it was time for dhuhur. Those who were curious finally asked him:

"Where were you this morning, O Shaykh al-Husayn?"

"I was in Mina with the pilgrims (to throw the jumrah)," replied al-Hujjuji.

They did not believe the words of Al-Hujjuji, but he did not force them to believe.

One day, he was absent again as usual. However, this time he returned with "proof" in the form of two slices of bread from Mecca which had a soft texture. He showed it to those who did not believe in the previous story. With this evidence, they became believers and began to call Sheikh al-Husayn by the nickname "Al-Hujjuji".

Such is the karomah that Allah has bestowed upon his lover, which is often incomprehensible to humans.

Wallahu a'lam .
