SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF AL-KHAIRAAT PONPES
Not many Islamic boarding schools include art lessons in their curriculum. The nasyid, samrah or jepeng lessons by the administrators of the Al Khairat Islamic Boarding School, Palu, Donggala, Central Sulawesi, were used as a balance between religious and general lessons. No wonder the alumni have held various important positions and have become reliable preachers in Eastern Indonesia.
If you want to enjoy the beauty of Jepeng -- a Middle Eastern-style dance -- just come to Al-Khairaat Islamic Boarding School. Especially in the month of Shawwal. Because, in that month usually Al-Khairaat held an art month. There is a poetry reading competition, nasyid, as well as Japanese poetry.
You are certainly surprised, there are also art performances at the pesantren? Understandably, this unique art is taught as an additional lesson in this pesantren. Al-Khairaat, which is very popular in the eyes of the people of East Indonesia, does not only teach religious sciences and general knowledge.
Arts and sports also receive equal attention in this pesantren. In fact, the religious science curriculum taught here refers more to diniah (educational institutions) in Egypt, rather than referring to the curriculum of the Ministry of Religion (MoRA).
For example, if the Ministry of Religion's curriculum mentions lessons from the Koran and Hadith, Al-Khairaat includes those terms as lessons from the Koran, Tajweed and Tafsir. Meanwhile, the hadith is included in the Mustalahul Hadith lesson.
While general subjects include mathematics, English, physics, biology and several other subjects according to the provisions of the Ministry of National Education (Depdiknas). How about art lessons? The pesantren, which has 7,000 teaching staff and 1,400 educational units, teaches nasyid, poetry, samrah, and jepeng.
While in the field of sports, the students are not only taught karate and pencak silat. But, also the science of prana--breathing. Equipped with a variety of knowledge, it is not surprising that the students have physical, mental, and spiritual strength as well as good taste.
