Jalaluddin Al-Suyuthi was born in the month of Rajab in 849 H or October 3, 1445-1505 AD, on a Sunday night after Maghrib. He was an orphan at the age of 5 years 7 months. The name al-Suyuthi is taken from the city of Asyut which is right on the west bank of the Nile. Some literature states that he is not of Arab descent. It is said that his mother came from Turkey.


Al-Suyuthi himself once told, “My grandfather was a non-Arab from the East. His name was Damam al-Din, an expert in essence and teacher of the tarekat. From his hands, several figures and leaders have been born. Among them there are heads of government, judges, and merchants. But no one studied deeply, except for my father.”


He is the author of this Tafsir Jalalayn . From an early age he was filled with knowledge and piety. His eyes were open to knowledge and piety, because his father was diligent in teaching him to read the Koran and science. He finished the Qur'an at the age of 8 and has memorized many hadiths.


According to al-Dawudi, the number of teachers reached fifty-one teachers. While his works numbered five hundred writings. The popularity of his work is already widespread in the West and the East. He is known as a prolific and prolific writer.


As a great scholar of his time, he mastered many disciplines of knowledge. The science of hadith for example, he is able to describe the science of musthalah hadith and all aspects related to it well and deeply. In fact, he informed that he had memorized two hundred thousand hadiths.


He said, "If I find more hadiths, then I will memorize them". So with a strong determination to study hadith, he visited various countries to gain knowledge.


In addition to hadith, he also wrote commentaries, linguistics, literature, Sufism, and even history. Other sources of information say the number of his works is more than 600 books. Therefore, many academics and researchers have dubbed him the most prolific writer in Arabic literature. Among his works are Jam'u al-Jawami', Tadrib al-Rawi, Miftah al-Jannah, Tanwir al-Hawalik, Tafsir Jalalayn, al-Itqan fi Ulum al-Qur'an, Asrar wa Ta'wil, and many more . again.


Al-Suyuthi was sick at the end of his age for seven days, until he died on Friday 19 Jumadil Ula 911 H at his house Raudhah al-Miqyas, which coincided with 17 October 1505 AD.
