Daar El-Qolam . Islamic Boarding School in Indonesia
Daar El-Qolam . Islamic Boarding School
Daar el-Qolam Islamic Boarding School ( ار القلم للتربية الإسلامية ) is a boarding school located in Pasir Gintung Village, Jayanti District, Tangerang Regency , Banten Province which was established on January 20, 1968 . This pesantren is the idea of Haji Qasad Mansyur which was realized by Drs. KH Ahmad Rifai Arief ( 1942-1997 ). After KH Ahmad Rifa'i Arief died on June 15, 1997 , this cottage was continued by KH Drs. Ahmad Syahiduddin , KH Adrian Mafatihullah Karimand Hj. Oh, Huwaenah . This Islamic educational institution is a model of integration between the cottage education system and the madrasa and school education system . As of July 2012, Daar el-Qolam Islamic Boarding School is the largest Islamic boarding school in the Banten area, with a total of approximately 5000 inhabitants.
History
KH Ahmad Rifa'i Arief is an alumnus of Gontor Modern Islamic Boarding School , Ponorogo , East Java in 1964 . Before establishing the Daar el-Qolam Islamic boarding school, he taught at his alma mater for two years. Had studied several classic books in several traditional Islamic boarding schools. In late 1967 , he returned to his village, Gintung, to help his father H. Qasad Mansyur manage Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Masyariqul Anwar ( ارق الأنوار ).
H. Qasad Mansyur, indeed wanted an educational institution to take his education to a higher level. Then, he suggested that his son, Ahmad Rifai Arief, establish a boarding school like his alma mater, Gontor. His father's suggestion was finally realized by Ahmad Rifa'i Arief to establish a pesantren which was named Daar el-Qolam ( ار القلم ), which in terminology means the Village of Knowledge . The only infrastructure at the Daar El-Qolam Islamic boarding school at that time was an old kitchen owned by his grandmother, Hj. Renovated dustpan into a study room. Hj. Pengki also donated one hectare of land.
The early days of boarding school education was passed with various difficulties and limited facilities. However, with the limitations that do not prevent him from continuing to do. Rifai remains consistent with his intentions. Daar El-Qolam began to show its development, in 1983 . His relationship with KH Muhammad Natsir , a charismatic Indonesian cleric, helped Rifai a lot, so he helped Rifa'i to get financial assistance from Saudi Arabia .
In 1983, the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia provided financial assistance of 64 million rupiah. The money was used to build a male dormitory which was later named the al-Saudi Building ( السعودي ). Some of the other money, bought land for expansion of the cottage area.
In the 1980s until now, Daar el-Qolam has increasingly gained the trust of the wider community who come from various provinces in Indonesia. The modern education system, the application of the discipline of life and worship are the reasons for parents to educate their children in Daar el-Qolam.
On its 25th birthday which was held in 1994 , several Indonesian officials came to Daar el-Qolam, among them Dr. Tarmizi Taher (who at that time served as Minister of Religion ), Prof. Dr. Haryono Suyono (Coordinating Minister of BKKBN), Hayono Isman ( State Minister of Youth and Sports ), Harmoko ( Minister of Information ), and Major General TNI AM Hendropriyono ( Pangdam Jaya ). The anniversary commemoration made Daar el-Qolam increasingly known to the public.
Islamic Boarding School Development
After the death of the founder of the Pesantren, the leadership of the pesantren was transferred to his first brother, Ahmad Syahiduddin and his first son, Adrian Mafatihullah Karim . Kiai Ahmad Syahiduddin then asked his older sister, Hj. Enah Huwaenah to guide the santriwati, while she handles the policies of the pesantren.
The Daar el-Qolam Islamic Boarding School began to make significant expansion under the leadership of KH Ahmad Syahiduddin. From about 15 hectares when it was abandoned by the founder, Daar el-Qolam has now expanded to 29 hectares. With many ideas coming to improve quality, especially from alumni such as Tafta Zani, Muhammad Wahyuni Nafis, Ubaidillah Asnawi, Tabah Rosyadi and others, the Daar el-Qolam Islamic Boarding School established the Excellent Class Program, starting in the 2007/2008 school year. The Excellent Class program was finally inaugurated by the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia , H. Maftuh Basyuni on January 21, 2008 , in conjunction with the anniversary ( milad) The 40th Daar el-Qolam Islamic Boarding School (5 windu). The Excellent Class program was then projected as an International Standard School in the form of a boarding school.
The construction of Daar el-Qolam also did not end there. Now, Kiyai Ahmad Syahiduddin is also developing a branch of the Daar el-Qolam Islamic boarding school, which is devoted to handling students at the junior high school level, in Pangkat Village, Jayanti, Tangerang, which until March 2009 was still under construction for dormitories and classrooms.
Five Souls and Cottage Motto
The Daar el-Qolam Islamic boarding school (and several Islamic boarding schools alumni of Pondok Modern Daarussalam Gontor and alumni of Daar el-Qolam itself) carry five and four philosophies called "Panca Jiwa and Pondok Motto". Five souls are five basic principles that must be embedded in the soul of anyone who becomes a resident of the cottage, whether it is kyai, teacher or santri.
The five souls of the lodge are as follows:
Sincerity .
Sincerity is the main and first thing that must exist in humans. Sincerity has a very deep meaning, namely removing elements that lead to personal interests that can pollute the purpose of life, as well as the purpose of education and teaching. For example, in the process of education and teaching, teachers must be sincere in providing knowledge as a form of gratitude and the intention of worshiping Allah as the owner of knowledge. When students, they must sincerely be educated and taught with the aim of understanding the nature of themselves as the first step to worship God.
Simplicity .
It means doing something based on need, not desire. Thus simplicity is an attitude that is not measured by quantity, big or small, much or little, cheap or expensive, but because it is needed. Simplicity is also based on ability not will.
Independent .
This trait shows a person's freedom in determining his attitude. Being independent also means trying with one's own abilities without depending on others. This trait is also very important to produce militant souls who are ready to fight and serve the community. The cottage is also not dependent on the help of others.
Islamic Brotherhood .
The purpose of this fourth principle is to establish human relations based on the principles of peaceful and tolerant Islamic teachings . Ukhuwah in Islam is the value of brotherhood with the spirit of helping who does not see certain boundaries, such as class, ethnicity and even religion or other people's beliefs. Islam commands its followers to respect everyone, cooperate and socialize regardless of their social status and even their beliefs. This is of course very in line with the teachings of Islam as a religion that spreads universal peace or rahmatan lil âlamîn .
Freedom .
Free attitude means breaking away from the influence of others, both thoughts and actions. Freedom is not meant to do as you please, but freedom in determining attitudes and opinions that do not conflict with the basic values of Islamic teachings . Freedom is also moderate without taking sides, what he defends is the truth in accordance with religious teachings .
The following is the Pondok Motto:
virtuous .
This is a trait that must exist in humans, especially the younger generation. This trait is very important and must be in the first level before other traits will be possessed.
Healthy Body .
As a potential community leader, physical qualities of a healthy and strong are also very important. Noble morals, coupled with excellent physique will give birth to tough people in facing every challenge and trial.
Knowledgeable .
There is no doubt about this condition. He is also the main requirement that must be owned by future leaders. The perfection of a leader can be known through character , a healthy body and extensive knowledge .
Free Thinking .
Personality wrapped with morals , healthy physical, broad knowledge must be able to place himself in a free place, not bound to anyone. What he defends is the truth for the benefit of the people.

Educational level
Daar el-Qolam Islamic Boarding School consists of three levels of formal education (according to the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia ), namely:
Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) Daar el-Qolam
Madrasah Aliyah (MA) Daar el-Qolam
Daar el-Qolam . Junior High School (SMP)
Daar el-Qolam . High School (SMA)
There are two levels that can be taken by students who attend education at Daar el-Qolam:
6-year level (for graduates of Elementary School / Madrasah Ibtidaiyah )
The students who follow this 6-year level must pass 6 years of education in Islamic boarding schools: 3 years in junior secondary education plus 3 years in senior secondary education (MA/SMA).
Changes that occurred after the change of leadership
Starting from the 2009/2010 academic year, Daar el-Qolam Islamic Boarding School slightly remodeled the 4-year level for SMP/MTs graduates to just three years, by integrating all religious lessons every year they undergo education in pesantren, with a different religious curriculum with education. 6-year level (the same is only the general curriculum). To create quality alumni.
Curriculum
The curriculum applied in the Daar el-Qolam Islamic Boarding School includes integrated religious and general lessons. Every day, students receive 7 hours of lessons, each 45 minutes long, followed by a 25 minute break, which ranges from 7:00 local time to 15:00 local time. Outside of these formal hours, students also get teaching on the Koran , the yellow book , and courses that can be followed according to the interests and abilities of the students themselves, such as English courses, Arabic courses, computer courses, self-defense courses, and so on.
The system integration also makes it easier for students to continue their education at the higher education level, especially to the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) which is intended for graduates of madrasas and Islamic boarding schools. The provision of Arabic and English that have been given while studying at the cottage, makes it easier for students to understand the curriculum at IAIN. Several Daar el-Qolam students who became outstanding students at IAIN include Ihsan Ali Fauzi, Muhammad Wahyuni Nafis, Nanang Tahqiq, Ismatu Rofi, and Siti Nafsiah, who became excellent students at IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah , Jakarta . In addition, there are also many students who continue their education to the Middle East such as Egypt ,Mecca and Medina .
Because in class they also learn general science lessons, the students will also be guided in general lessons with the same composition as religious studies. This is done so that later after leaving the boarding school the students can continue to general higher education institutions such as medicine , technology and so on. This goal has a mission so that Muslims will be able to fill more diverse social spaces, not only in the religious field.
Starting from the 2007/2008 academic year, Pondok Daar el-Qolam launched a superior class program, called the Excellent Class Program. In the program, all students who have passed the qualifications in terms of average grades at the time of promotion (minimum 6.25) and behavior can experience a slightly different experience from ordinary classes. In each of the 25 classes, there are projectors with Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology and they are also allowed to bring and use the Internet via their own computers or notebooks (with the Bring Your Own Device/BYOD scheme) outside of class hours. formal activities (such as breaks and evenings), of course to support learning.
