Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School Banyuanyar Pamekasan was first established in the mid-18th century, precisely in 1788 AD or 1204 Hijriah. This Islamic boarding school is administratively located in the village of Potoan Daya, Palenga'an, Pamekasan , Madura.

Meanwhile, the founder, Kyai Itsbat bin Ishaq, is a kyai from Sumber Panjalin. If traced, the genealogy of Kyai Itsbat bin Kyai Ishaq is descended from Kyai Cendana alias Sayyid Zainal Abidin, Kwanyar, Bangkalan.

While Kyai Itsbat's grandfather is Kyai Hasan, son of Nyai Embuk Sumber Papan, daughter of Nyai Agung Toronan alias Nyai Kammalah. While Nyai Agung Toronan (Nyai Kammalah) is the daughter of Nyai Aminah alias Nyai Lembung binti Kyai Cendana.

From the father's lineage, Kyai Ishaq is a direct descendant of Prince Katandur, Sumenep. Or in full order as follows Kyai Ishaq bin Kyai Hasan bin Kyai Embuk bin Kyai Khathib Paddusan bin Pangeran Katandur. Prince Ketandur himself is the grandson of Sunan Kudus.

At first Kyai Itsbat lived in a village called Longserreh Village, Robatal District, Sampang Regency. This village was at that time far from the crowds, so his wife felt uncomfortable or uncomfortable living in the village. Finally they decided to move to another area in the hope that they could live more comfortably.

According to historical records circulating, previously the area of the Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Banyuanyar was an area in the form of a wilderness which was later cleared by Kyai Itsbat to become an Islamic boarding school and occupied by his extended family.

The mention of the Banyuanyar Islamic Boarding School attached to this Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School comes from two syllables, namely banyu or banyo and anyar . The word Banyu (banyo) means water, while the word anyar can be interpreted as new. The giving of Banyuanyar itself is based on a story that mentions the discovery of a spring or a well that is large enough by Kyai Itsbat.

Until now, it is said that the well or the spring has never subsided at all. Even the water can still be used as drinking water for the students and the extended family of the Banyuanyar Islamic Boarding School until now.

At the beginning of the establishment of the Banyuanyar Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School itself, Kyai Itsbat only built a langgar to serve as a place of worship as well as a place for his students to recite the Koran.

The students who recite the Koran in the langgar are students who come from the surrounding community. So there is no need to make rooms or dormitories as a place to live for the students.

In today's era, maybe pesantren usually have rooms or dormitories for students who want to study. In contrast to the previous condition.

At that time, the santri who came only to recite the Koran and did not spend the night or stayed at the pesantren were called santri bats / cologan . This term also survives to this day.

Time after time made this pesantren more famous and developed so extraordinary. Thanks to his fame, the students who received education at this pesantren began to flock to come.

Finally, in order to accommodate the students whose homes are far from the pesantren, the pesantren took the initiative to build several rooms or dormitories as a place to live for the students.

The students who came were not only from the local community, many even came from outside the Banyuan area. Now, perhaps there are many students who come from all over Indonesia.

Thus a brief history of the Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School Banyuanyar Pamekasan Madura. Hopefully it can provide useful information. Wallahu A'lam .
