In 1961 KH Abdul Manaf built six local madrasah buildings on waqf land. The idea of establishing a pesantren was supported by Kol.Pol.Drs.H. Kamaruzzaman, who at that time was finishing his studies at IAIN SUNAN KALIJAGA, Yogyakarta. For the management of education submitted to Ust. Mahrus Amin , an alumnus of KMI Gontor who began living in Jakarta on February 2, 1961.

Due to the many obstacles and obstacles, education cannot be carried out in Ulujami, but is carried out in Petukangan with several community leaders, including Ust. Abdillah Amin and H. Ghozali, in collaboration with YKMI, August 1, 1961 , Ust. Mahrus Amin started to build Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Darunnajah with 75 students and in 1964 opened Tsanawiyah and TK Darunnajah . Darunnajah education center was inaugurated in 1964 .

In 1970 there was an attempt to move the pesantren to Petukangan, but it failed. And the effort to start a pesantren has also been tried by accommodating approximately 9 children from Ulujami and Petukangan, namely between 1963-1964. And in 1972 accommodated approximately 15 children in Petukangan, but the two efforts could not be continued with various difficulties that arose.

During this period, although the expected pesantren has not materialized, with these efforts, the Foundation has succeeded in defending the waqf land in Ulujami from various disturbances, including the BTI PKI at that time.

Coaching and Structuring Period (1974-1987)

On April 1, 1974, he tried for the umpteenth time to establish the Darunnajah Islamic Boarding School in Ulujami. At first the Pesantren took care of 3 students, while Tsanawiyah Petukangan was moved to Ulujami to enliven it. It wasn't until 1976 that Madrasah Tsanawiyah Petukangan was reopened and gradually, the Darunnajah Ulujami Islamic Boarding School only accepted children who had settled in, except for Ulujami's children who were allowed to commute.

The first building erected was a mosque with a size of 11 X 11 m2 and several local dormitories. Although the building is simple, it is in accordance with the master plan made by Ir. Ery Chayadipura. At the beginning of its construction, all students were always involved to help with community service.
