Prophet Ishaq As is the younger brother of Prophet Ismail As and both are sons of Prophet Ibrahim from different mothers. Ishaq's presence was really unexpected because when he was born, his father, Prophet Ibrahim and his mother, Sarah, were already old.

For years the Prophet Ibrahim and his first wife, Sarah, waited for the arrival of a baby. When the Prophet Ibrahim with his wife named Hajar already had a child named Ismail, his first wife did not have children. After they were not young anymore, Allah gave the gift of a son named Ishaq.

Narrated the author of 365 Days with The Quran, Saniyasnain Khan, that one day the angels called Prophet Ibrahim and told him if his first wife, Sarah, would soon give birth to a son. Hearing the angel's words, Prophet Ibrahim and his wife Sarah were very happy.

"Sarah couldn't believe it! But Allah blessed them with a son in old age. They named their son Ishaq who would also become a Prophet," Khan wrote.

Prophet Ishaq is the only child of Prophet Ibrahim and Sarah. Prophet Ishaq is also the younger brother of Prophet Ismail who lives in Palestine. In addition, Prophet Ishaq is also an ancestor of the line of prophets starting from Prophet Jacob and ending with Prophet Isa.

"The birth of Prophet Ishaq was conveyed by the angels to Prophet Ibrahim when he was on his way to destroy the people of Prophet Lut, because of their sins," explained Khan.

The birth of Prophet Ishaq is considered a gift given by God to Prophet Ibrahim. It was a gift to show his faith in God who was ready to sacrifice his only son, Prophet Ismail, on God's command.

Quoted from Migo & Ali Love For The Prophet , it is told that one day, when Ibrahim As was sitting thinking about everything that Allah had given him, three angels approached him. Prophet Ibrahim did not know that they were angels.

At that time, Prophet Ibrahim asked the three to visit his house and enjoy some food. Prophet Ibrahim (as) always honors guests and generous people. In fact, Prophet Ibrahim came with a fat calf that had been roasted and served it to his three guests, but they neither ate nor drank the meal he had served.

Because the three guests did not want to eat, Prophet Ibrahim began to worry. Prophet Ibrahim  thought the three were people who wanted to hurt him.

However, the angel explained to Prophet Ibrahim not to worry. As well as saying that the three are angels, who came to tell that Prophet Ibrahim and his wife Sarah were going to have a baby.

Hearing all this, Prophet Ibrahim and Sarah were shocked because they were both very old. Sarah thought that how she could give birth when she was 90 years old, while her husband was also old.

Prophet Ishaq is 14 years younger than Ismail

As we all know, Mother, usually old people can't have babies. But, Allah can do anything and give blessings to whoever Allah wants.

The angels said, "Thus says your Lord. Indeed, He is the Most Wise and All-Knowing." (QS. Adz Dzaariyat: 30).

After some time, what the angels said came true. His wife, Sarah gave birth to a son who was later named Ishaq by the Prophet Ibrahim. At that time, Prophet Ibrahim was 100 years old, then Isaac was born 14 years after the birth of Prophet Ismail.

"And remember Our servants: Ibrahim, Ishaq, and Ya'qub who have great deeds and high knowledge. Verily, We have purified them by (bestowing upon them) high morals, which is always reminding (humans) to the land of the hereafter. And verily they on Our side are among the best of the chosen ones." (QS. Shaad: 45-47).

When Prophet Ishaq (as) grew up, he had a son of his own, who was called Yaqub (Yakub). Yaqub (as) also became a prophet, who had the son of Prophet Yusuf (as).
