Islamic Story: Seeing the Perfection of the Morals of the Prophet SAW in a Bowl of Wine
A poor man came from the village carrying a bowl full of grapes that he wanted to present to the Prophet Muhammad. The poor man was very enthusiastic about giving gifts to the Prophet Muhammad. When he had met the Apostle, he said,
" O Messenger of Allah, accept this small gift from me ."
The Messenger of Allah then took the bowl containing the wine and ate it. He ate one grape and then smiled, followed by a second fruit, and he kept smiling.
Syahdan, seeing the smile on the Prophet's face, the poor man looked so happy. He was happy to see the wine he kept was enjoyed by the Prophet.
The Prophet at that time was not alone, he was with his companions. But the Messenger of Allah did not share the grapes with his companions. Whereas usually the Prophet Muhammad always shared the food he had. It suddenly made friends feel surprised.
The Prophet, one by one, devoured the grapes himself until he did not feel the bowl that was originally full of grapes was finished. Ignoring the confusion of the companions, the poor man put on a happy face because his gift had been eaten by the Prophet.
Then he said goodbye to the Prophet.
After that, one of the companions asked, " O Messenger of Allah, why don't you invite us to eat the wine with you? ”
So the Messenger of Allah smiled and said:
" Don't you see how happy he is with that bowl (of wine)? You know when I eat it, the wine tastes sour. So I'm afraid that if I share it with you, you'll show a reaction that will ruin his happiness ."
This story makes friends feel amazed and learn valuable lessons.
Such is the noble character of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. The story gives birth to lessons that we can learn. First , being a Muslim means being a person who can appreciate the good deeds of others. Even if it's not what we want, for example, we need to appreciate the good intentions he has.
Second , never criticize food. In a hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah, it is explained that the Messenger of Allah never once criticized food. If he likes it, he will eat it. If you don't like it, you don't taste the dish.
The Prophet also consumed whatever was provided for him as long as it was lawful and good. In a narration, Jabir said,
“ The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) once asked his family for side dishes, but they replied, 'We only have vinegar.' Then he asked for it and ate with it saying, 'The most delicious side dish is vinegar, the most delicious side dish is vinegar .'
Imam Nawawi in Riyadh ash-Salihin said that criticizing food is a sign of arrogance and luxury. A Muslim must, of course, avoid arrogance. One of the signs of our gratitude to Allah is to enjoy the food as it is and properly.
Third , maintain the dignity of fellow Muslims. In the sirah above, the Prophet ate all the sour grapes not because of greed or greed. He only wanted to prevent the companions from showing a disapproving face towards the gifted wine.
Imagine if several people tasted the fruit and then reflexively displayed the impression of not liking it. Of course, the giver will not only be surprised. Perhaps, his pride will be offended. In his mind, people would think he deliberately gave a bad gift to a figure as noble as the Prophet.
The story also shows that da'wah is not only through words, but also actions. Many people fall asleep with oral da'wah. "Just because" he already has a jam'ah and his voice is heard, he then conveys something according to his desires.
The forum, which he thought was a da'wah, turned into a land of gossip, spreading hatred, and even slander. This can also be our benchmark in finding a good teacher. It is not he who likes to talk and teach people we call a good teacher. Rather, he is polite and provides an example.
