Jamsaren Islamic Boarding School is located at Jalan Veteran 263 Serengan Solo. This Islamic boarding school was first established around 1750. In its history, this cottage went through two periods, after experiencing a vacuum of almost 50 years, between 1830 – 1878.

Initially, the boarding school which was founded during the reign of Pakubuwono IV was only a small surau. At that time, PB IV brought in scholars, including Kiai Jamsari (Banyumas). The name Jamsaren was also taken from the name of Kiai Jamsari's residence which was later immortalized until now. The vacuum of the cottage in 1830 was caused by the Dutch army operation. The operation was started because the Dutch lost the war with Prince Diponegoro in 1825 in Yogyakarta. Having lost, the Dutch launched a series of ruses and subsequently succeeded in trapping Prince Diponegoro. Therefore, in 1830, the kiai and assistants of Prince Diponegoro in Surakarta and PB VI went into hiding and left Surakarta to other areas, including Kiai Jamsari II (the son of Kiai Jamsari) and his students. After about 50 years of vacancy, a pious kiai from Klaten who is a descendant of Prince Diponegoro's assistant, Kiai H Idris rebuilt the surau. Certainly more complete and expanded than the original condition.

It was in the hands of Kiai Idris that Jamsaren reached its peak. Besides managing the Jamsaren Islamic Boarding School, Kiai Idris at that time also managed the Mamba'ul Ulum Madrasah which was founded by the Kraton Surakarta. A number of national movement figures from various regions were recorded to have studied at the madrasa. Meanwhile, at Jamsaren, thousands of students from various parts of Southeast Asia came to study with Kiai Idris, who was known to be very pious and was also a mursyid of the Tariqah Naqsyabandiyah. Kiai Idris have attended Kiai Mansyur (founder of Al-Mansyur Islamic Boarding School in Klaten), Kiai Dimyati (founder of Termas Islamic Boarding School, Pacitan), Sheikh Ahmad al-Hadi (famous Islamic figure in Bali), Kiai Arwani Amin (Kudus), Kiai Abdul Hadi Zahid (caretaker of Ponpes Langitan).

Even after Kiai Idris died in 1923, the big name Jamsaren was still a reference for parents to send their children to study. Many of the country's great figures are graduates or have studied religion intensely in the next generation of Jamsaren.

For example, Munawir Sadzali (former Minister of Religion), Amien Rais (former Chairman of the MPR), KH Zarkasyi (founder of Islamic boarding school Gontor), KH Hasan Ubaidah (founder and leader of LDII) and a number of other names. Jamsaren, an ancient Islamic boarding school that has nurtured the growth of many figures in this country.

The last central figure to lead this pesantren was KH Ali Darokah. After KH Ali Darokah died in 1997, Jamsaren was led by a council of elders. Meanwhile, as the executor of the decision, all activities are led by Mufti Addin as the head of the cottage

The name Jamsaren was also taken from the name of the residence of Kiai Jamsari which was later immortalized until now.

But unfortunately, even though many great scholars of Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah (Aswaja) have visited, Pondok Jamsaren almost no longer looks at its Aswajaan culture. According to the head of the palace, this is because in its development there are rarely scholars, especially from the Aswaja ulama group, who want to approach the palace, as was done by Wali Songo or ancient palace scholars. "There is a kind of break in the chain of history at this lodge," said Tafsir Anom, KRT Muh. Muhtarom told NU Online , last Saturday (9/2). Pondok Jamsaren has also experienced a period of vacuum. The vacuum of the lodge in 1830 was caused by an operation by the Dutch army. The operation was started because the Dutch lost the war with Prince Diponegoro in 1825 in Yogyakarta.

Therefore, in 1830, the kiai and assistants of Prince Diponegoro in Surakarta and PB VI went into hiding and left Surakarta to other areas, including Kiai Jamsari II (the son of Kiai Jamsari) and his students. After about 50 years of vacancy, a kiai alim from Klaten who is a descendant of Prince Diponegoro's assistant, Kiai H Idris rebuilt the surau, which later became a pesantren. The cottage building was made more complete and expanded from its original condition. At the same time, Sunan Pakubuwono X founded a Madrasah, which was named Madrasah Mamba'ul 'Ulum Surakarta.

The material taught is classical books (yellow books) in Arabic and translated into Javanese Pegon (a language adapted to the composition of Arabic), such as Nahwu Shorof, Tajwid, Qiroah, Tafsir, Fiqh, Hadith, Mantiq, Tarikh and Tasawwuf. The students not only came from nearby Solo, but also came from other areas on the island of Java, including Tegal, Semarang, Banten, Jombang, and Mojokerto. In 1908, the mushala of the Islamic boarding school was replaced with a walled mosque building and continues to this day. In 1913, the sorogan recitation system was replaced with a class system. Printing Ulama and Great Leaders In its development, in 1923 AD, KH. Idris died (buried in the display of the Haji Mausoleum) then replaced by KH. Abu Amar (Kyai Jamsari/Kyai Ngabei projowijoto). In 1965 KH.'Abu Umar died. He was succeeded by his son, one of whom was replaced by KH. Ali Darokah as chairman.

Pondok Jamaren started from 1965-1997, directly led by KH. Ali Darokah assisted by the caretaker of the lodge. where the structure of the cottage consists of the head of the cottage, the secretary. treasurer, guardian of the boarding school, teaching staff, security staff, and da'wah staff. On July 8, 1997 KH. Ali Darokah died. After his death the management of the cottage was handed over to the daily management of the cottage and the daily executive of the cottage. Several big names were born from this hut, including Munawir Sazali (former Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia) and Miftah Farid (Chairman of West Java MUI). In its development, the Jamsaren Islamic Boarding School then collaborated with the Surakarta Al-Islam College Foundation.
