Kiai Hamid's Love Advice
Kiai Hamid's Love Advice
How to humanize humans by humans who are actually humans? The figure of Kiai Hamid Pasuruan is an example and inspiration for all of us. Kiai Hamid is not a kiai who is distant from his people and students, but as a guardian and kiai who is very humane. Kiai Hamid gives advice with symbols, as a way to advise humans to use their minds and hearts to understand God's will and the behavior of nature.
Kiai Hamid was born in 1914 AD/1333H, in the village of Sumbergirang, Lasem, Rembang, Central Java. He was born with the first name Abdul Mu'thi bin Abdullah bin Umar Basyaiban. Kiai Abdullah, the father of Kiai Hamid, is the son-in-law of Kiai Shiddiq Jember. Abdul Mu'thi's name changed to Abdul Hamid after he performed the pilgrimage.
Kiai Hamid's grandfather, Kiai Siddiq, is the father of two major kiai in the pesantren universe, namely Kiai Mahfudh Siddiq and Kiai Ahmad Siddiq. Genealogically, Kiai Hamid's parents, namely Kiai Abdullah and Nyai Rohannah, are continued in line with Shaykh Abdurrahman Sambu, a Wali Allah who is still the brother of Shaykh Ahmad Mutamakkin Kajen.
In a history, Shaykh Abdurrahman Basyaiban (Mbah Sambu) is the son of Sayyid Muhammad Hasyim ibn Sayyid Abdurrahman Basyaiban ibn Sayyid Abdullah ibn Sayyid Umar ibn Sayyid Muhammad ibn Sayyid Ahmad ibn Sayyid Abubakar Basyaiban ibn Sayyid Muhammad Asadillah ibn Sayyid Hasan at-Turabi ibn Sayyid 'Turabi Ali ibn Sayyid Muhammad Faqih Muqaddam. This lineage is then connected to the Prophet Muhammad. Shaykh Abduurrahman Sambu is the son-in-law of the daughter of Adipati Tedjo Kusuma I, the ruler of the coast of Java in the seventeenth century. Thus, the lineage of Kiai Hamid continued to several scholars in Java and Hadrami.
Since childhood, Kiai Hamid has been an adventurer of knowledge, a learner who is thirsty for knowledge. He recited the Koran to Kiai Kholil bin Harun in Kasingan, Rembang. Kiai Kholil is Kiai Mustofa Bisri's father-in-law. At that time, Kasingan Islamic Boarding School was known for its grammatical tradition, namely the center for learning nahwu, sharaf, with the study text of the books of Ibn Aqil Syarh Alfiyyah Ibn Malik and al-Mahalli.
After studying in Kasingan, Kiai Hamid studied at the Tremas Pacitan Islamic boarding school. In this pesantren, Kiai Hamid continues in the footsteps of his older brother, Gus Zaini Abdullah, who first recited the Koran in Tremas. In this pesantren, Kiai Hamid recites the Koran for a long time, about 12 years. Kiai Hamid spent a lot of time studying fiqh, Sufism, Kalam and literature. Not only that, Kiai Hamid also studied Dutch and studied kanuragan and asthma'.
Humanize Humans
Kiai Mustofa Bisri (Gus Mus) is very respectful of the figure of Kiai Hamid, who is an example in his humane attitude. Gus Mus often recited the wisdom of Kiai Hamid Pasuruan, on how to interpret knowledge and explore the values of love from Islam. Thanks to Gus Nu'man's communication and friendship, Gus Mus was able to meet one-on-one with Kiai Hamid at the ndalem (family house).
When greeting Gus Mus, Kiai Hamid asked about the news of the people of Rembang. In fact, Kiai Hamid deliberately did not give fatwas or direct advice, but gave exemplary stories that became inspiration. “There were no direct fatwas or advice, but I got a lot of fatwas and advice in that almost one hour meeting, through his attitude and stories. For example, he beat my greediness by constantly reaching into his pockets and taking out money as if he was ready to give it to me. Or when he told me about his friend Rembang, what I could understand was the point: every human being has strengths as well as weaknesses,” said Gus Mus. Kiai Hamid is famous for his hobby of handing out money.
According to Gus Mus, Kiai Hamid bin Abdullah is not a Wali Tiban, not an impromptu guardian. Kiai Hamid is a person who is diligent in sharpening his mind and gaining knowledge, a person who struggles to brighten his mind by applying knowledge and charity and mujahadah. Kiai Hamid also patiently absorbs wisdom by continuing to learn from wide association and internalized experience. "Kiai Hamid is considered a wali muttafaq alaih . Even my father, Kiai Bisri Mustofa and my teacher Kiai Ali Ma'shum—both of whom are close friends of Kiai Hamid—who find it difficult to believe in the existence of a Wali at this time must acknowledge Kiai Hamid's guardianship, although previously they often mocked the guardianship of their close friend, “said Gus Mus. .
Symbolic Advice
When giving advice, Kiai Hamid often uses like, symbols, or symbols. For example, to convey the values in the book of al-Hikam, in the advice " idfin wujuudika fi ardhi al-khumul , gather all your forms in a world that is unknown to people". Kiai Hamid gave an analogy, "if a person who cultivates corn and its seeds is not planted in the ground, it will not grow, instead a chicken will peck it."
On another occasion, Kiai Hamid gave an important lesson by slapping a verse: Cornflower picked by Cino, stuffed by wis kadung ya dijarno (Chinese plucked cornflower, something that has already been left alone). By Kiai Hamid, this Javanese syiir was turned into a saying: Cino picks flower corn, he takes care of things wis kadung (Chinese plucked cornflower, something that has already been done, needs to be fixed).
Kiai Hamid teaches example and wisdom. He doesn't immediately shoot the faults of others, with direct advice or anger. In fact, Kiai Hamid explained the intent and purpose of his advice, with symbols and symbols that can only be perceived with sincerity, clarity of thought.
There is a story about the wisdom of Kiai Hamid. In 1975, when the Hajj pilgrims in Makkah were in a commotion, Kiai Hamid became the mediator. Pilgrims believe in wukuf on Friday, but the Saudi Arabian government has set wukuf on Thursday. That said, because the Saudi government does not want to pay double the salaries of its employees. Jama'ah Haji noisily want to establish their own wukuf. Later, people went to Kiai Hamid for advice. Politely and wisely, Kiai Hamid gave gentle advice: “Look, it's good to join the government, you get two rewards. The reward for obeying the government, and the reward for obeying Allah. So, just stay on Thursday," ordered Kiai Hamid.
Kiai Hamid often gives advice to his students by using the coconut tree symbol. “Coconut flowers ( manggar ) if they become coconuts, all the trees are not strong, or the fruit will be small. It has become Sunnatullah," said Kiai Hamid. That, flowering coconut trees (manggar), then exposed to the wind to fall. But still there is fruit that becomes cup, then falls again. Well, what doesn't fall out becomes degan, then becomes coconut.
Likewise with humans, who have different characters and personalities. Also with the ability to think. Some are smart, some are super smart, some are mediocre, some are substandard. However, if everyone understands his condition and strives to become a useful human being, then the benefits will be great. Those that become cups and those that become coconuts, both have great benefits and benefits.
Kiai Hamid died on 9 Rabiul Awwal 1403 H, coinciding with December 25, 1982. He is buried in the Tomb Complex west of the Jami' al-Anwar Mosque, Pasuruan. In this tomb area, there is the tomb of Habib Ja'far bin Syaikhan Assegaf, who was Kiai Hamid's teacher. Kiai Hamid teaches Islam in a calm and loving atmosphere, giving advice using the language of symbols and symbols.
