Kisah Islami: An Example of a Leader Who Always Serves the Ummah
Kisah Islami: An Example of a Leader Who Always Serves the Ummah
Abdullah ar-Ribathi was traveling to Mecca. That day, he stopped in Baghdad and met Mus'ab bin Ahmad. Knowing Abdullah's intentions, Mus'ab was also interested in joining the group.
He expressed his wish to Abdullah. However, like unrequited love, Abdullah did not agree and was not pleased that his journey was followed by Mus'ab.
The following year, Abdullah went to Mecca again. Just like before, he also stopped in Baghdad. At that time, Mus'ab did not say that he wanted to go together. It was not until the third year, when Abdullah stopped by again in Baghdad, that Mus'ab expressed that he wanted to go with Abdullah.
This time, tit for tat. Mus'ab's wish was granted by Abdullah. But on one condition, “I agree that you come with me. But there is a condition. In this journey, one of us must be the leader and his orders must not be opposed."
Mus'ab agreed, “All right then. I agree that you are the chairman.”
Abdullah objected. He refused the offer and preferred that Mus'ab be the head of the traveling party. However, again Mus'ab prefers to be the one to be led. He stated that it would be more appropriate for Abdullah to be the leader, “You are the leader. You are more deserving."
"Okay, then. But remember, you must not go against my orders," Abdullah reminded him.
They eventually traveled from Baghdad to Mecca. On that trip, when it was time to eat, Abdullah prioritized and prioritized Mus'ab.
Mus'ab was not happy to be treated like that. He refused. However, Abdullah did not run out of ideas so that his services would still be accepted. He said, "Isn't there a condition at the beginning, that the leader's order cannot be opposed?"
Abdullah's very special treatment of Mus'ab made him regret why he went with Abdullah. The reason is that by going with Abdullah, Mus'ab actually felt that he had made Abdullah trouble.
Until one day, in the middle of the journey, it rained so heavily. Abdullah told Mush'ab to find a pillar, "O Mush'ab, look for a mail (a stone that marks every mile)!".
Mus'ab set out to look for it and finally found it. Abdullah then ordered Mus'ab to sit downstairs. Abdullah spread a blanket over Mus'ab so it wouldn't rain. With a slightly bent position and holding on to the mail .
Abdullah's service at that time made Mus'ab even more guilty for having gone with him. In fact, the service continued until they both arrived in Mecca.

From the story above, we can learn about leadership. In an association, whether two or more people, there should be one person on duty and appointed as a leader. It is intended that the association has a clear direction. Also, when there is a conflict, there will be someone who can mediate.
In addition, the story above also makes us understand how the attitude of a leader and being led should be.
A leader is a servant of the people he leads. He must always serve them and never the slightest desire to be served. He must try his best so that the people he leads can live in prosperity.
The same goes for being led. He must always obey the leader. Of course, as long as the orders do not conflict with God's laws. Because obeying the leader is God's command. Isn't the leader to be obeyed?
Regardless of being (a leader or being led), the most important thing is to be aware of each other's position. Thus, an organization/institution/country will grow well. Wallahu'alam.
