Mahfudzot Class 2 KMI Gontor and its Meaning and Explanation (Part 20)

قَالَ اْلإِماَمُ الشَّافِعِي رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ

Imam Shafi'i said

# العِلْمُ صَيْدٌ وَ الْكِتَابَةُ قَيْدُهُ

قَيِّدْ صُيُوْدَكَ بِالْحِبَالِ الْوَاثِقَةِ

Knowledge is like a game, while writing is the rope.

So tie up your herd with a strong rope.

# فَمِنَ الْحَمَاقَةِ أَنْ تَصِيْدَ غَزَالَةً

وَتَتْرُكَهَا بَيْنَ الْخَلاَئِقِ طَالِقَةً

It is a foolish act if you hunt animals,

then leave it in the wild without any strings.

Syarah / Explanation and Conclusion:

Imam Syafi'i rahimahullah likens the process of studying to the hunting of animals. He also likens writing to a rope used to tie game animals so they don't run away. So it would be foolish if someone is lazy to write in the process of studying because what is not written can be lost (forgotten) at any time.

Great people say: ' If you want to perpetuate your name in the pages of history, then write ', meaning writing in making our names continue to be remembered as long as our writings are read by others, even to the next few generations.
