HISTORY OF ESTABLISHMENT

From a village on the outskirts of Banda Aceh City, an educational institution that made a real contribution to the community was established, an Islamic Religious Education Institution with a boarding school system or known as a boarding education system. The educational institution is called the Al Manar Modern Islamic Boarding School. Located in Lampermei Village, Krueng Barona Jaya District, Aceh Besar District. This boarding school was founded on the initiative of H. Azhar Manyak or better known as Abu Manyak, an entrepreneur born in Aceh Besar who has been successful in the business world since the seventies.

This institution was established in 2000 on the basis of his concern for the orphans who were victims of the conflict. In 1999 with sincere intentions he communicated with Prof. Dr. Safwan Idris, MA who at that time was still the Chancellor of IAIN Ar-Raniry to express his intention to build an educational institution whose students consisted of orphans. Through this communication, he wants to establish an orphanage in Aceh Besar. On the advice of Prof. Dr. Safwan Idris, MA at that time, so that the educational institutions that will be established in the future are managed by alumni of Pondok Modern Gontor who are considered to have experience in fostering children in the boarding system. So in this case Abu Manyak was asked to communicate with Gontor Alumni, namely Tgk. H. Fakhruddin Lahmuddin as chairman of the Modern Islamic Boarding School Alumni Association (IKPM) Gontor and Tgk. Syarifuddin as the secretary of IKPM regarding their ability to develop this educational institution in the future. Ust. Fakhrudin finally asked Abu Manyak for time so that his good intentions were discussed with several other IKPM members.

After consulting with other Gontor alumni friends, and seeing the seriousness and sacrifice of Abu Manyak, Tgk. H. Fakhruddin said in front of his IKPM friends that it would be naive if someone was given excess knowledge, even if a little was not used to help the benefit of the people, especially helping the continuity of the education of orphans. So at that time (2000) Gontor alumni friends were moved and agreed to participate in developing this pesantren. So in July 2001, this educational institution was officially started. This institution is called Al Manar Modern Islamic Boarding School.

Al Manar itself comes from the Arabic word nawwara-yunawwiru which means light or nur while manaara which means a monument that emits light, with the interpretation that this Islamic boarding school is expected to be able to emit light for this people in giving birth to a generation of Islam in Aceh in particular and in Indonesia and throughout corner of the world. Al Manar's words were also inspired by the monument that stood before the Islamic boarding school was built which was formerly known as Tugu Bungong Jeumpa . And the name of the monument eventually became the name of the Foundation founded by Abu Manyak, namely the Bungong Jeumpa Foundation.

Initially (2001) Al-Manar Modern Islamic Boarding School only accepted male students, totaling 71 students. Meanwhile, female students were only accepted in the 2009/2010 school year. Al-Manar Modern Islamic Boarding School accepts the first female students at the request of the guardians of the students and the surrounding community.

And in the fourteenth year, the number of students reached 450 students (consisting of 238 male students and 152 female students) consisting of 89 orphaned and orphaned students, while the other 361 students were general students with independent costs.

Al-Manar Modern Islamic Boarding School under the auspices of the "Bungong Jeumpa" Foundation for Islamic Education and Support for Orphans is a private Islamic educational institution with the motto standing above and for all groups, not taking sides with any class, sect or party. This Modern Islamic Boarding School aims to make a real contribution to the development of human resources and to create human beings who have intellectual and spiritual intelligence for the development of religion, nation and state. This Modern Islamic Boarding School is an integrated formal education institution where the students live in dormitories.

PLACE AND TIME OF ESTABLISHMENT

In 2001, the Al-Manar Modern Islamic Boarding School was officially established in Lam Permei Cot Irie Village, Krueng Barona Jaya District, Aceh Besar District. This boarding school institution with a dormitory system is under the Bungong Jempa Foundation on a 4.2 hectare land with Notary Deed No. 30 dated October 11, 2000 , and led by Tgk. H. _ Fakhruddin as General Manager and Tgk. Syarifuddinas head of operations. Initially, the Al Manar Modern Islamic Boarding School had four main sections: 1) The Santri Parenting Division was held by Ust. Jamhuri and Ust. Ikhram, 2). The Teaching Section is held by Ust. M. Syafrizal and Ust. Eddie Azhar. 3). The Finance Department is held by Ust. Fadhil Ahmadi, 5.) The Language Drive Section is held by Ust. Muthi'illah and 4.) The Prosperity Section of the Mosque is held by Ust. Muliadi Kurdi, and the person in charge of the kitchen is Syamsuddin Gano. Al Manar Modern Islamic Boarding School was inaugurated on July 23, 2001 by Drs. Sayuti IS, MM who at that time served as the Regent of Aceh Besar.

THE SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS OF THE SOCIAL INSTRUCTIONS

The Al-Manar Modern Islamic Boarding School, which was established in 2001, is located in a very strategic area, including the Madya Banda Aceh area, although administratively it is located in the Aceh Besar area. However, the proximity of this pesantren to other educational institutions from Kindergarten to Higher Education has made Al-Manar Modern Islamic Boarding School increasingly known by various groups. And more than that, the alumni are mostly students of UIN Ar-Raniry and also Syiah Kuala University, several other universities in the capital city of Aceh Province and also abroad such as Egypt, Tunisia, Oman and Malaysia.

Al-Manar Modern Islamic Boarding School is located in a separate area from the residential area and is currently growing rapidly. Although currently physical and building development tends to be slow, the total number of students in this pesantren ranges from 300-400 students each year.

The community around the pesantren generally supports the existence of this pesantren, because in religious events and activities they always invite students to participate in enlivening and filling events, especially during certain months, such as Ramadan and Maulid Nabi.

RATIONALE

The background of the establishment of the Al-Manar Modern Islamic Boarding School in general can be described as follows:

History has recorded that Aceh since the establishment of the Aceh kingdom has been known as a center of knowledge, education and religious thought which has had an influence not only on the people of the archipelago but also on foreign communities.

The efforts of Muslims today in facing the challenges of religious education, the challenges of modernity, the development of science and technology, especially in the Aceh area have not yet reached their optimal target.

Muslim cadres who have intellectual intelligence and spiritual intelligence, who have the strength of knowledge and faith are increasingly rare in this Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam earth.

The development of science and technology, especially in the field of communication and globalization, has shifted the social norms and values ​​of Islamic culture and the morals of Muslim youth, especially in Aceh Province.
