A. A Brief History


In 1905 two prominent Acehnese clerics named Tgk. Mahyiddin and Mr. M. Daud Rabeu built several huts made of bamboo topped with sago palm leaves with the intention of educating the religious children who live around their homes. This Acehnese name Dayah was given the name "Dayah Riyadhusshalihin" which means "Garden of pious people" which was originally inhabited by several santri who lived around the location and over time it had begun to smell in the surrounding villages and even extended to one district at the time. that.


Dayah Riyadhusshalihin is located in a village called Gampong Ateuk Angguk, Want Jaya District, Aceh Besar District, which on Google Earth is located at position: 5°31'37.38” N: 95°22'48.87” T.


B. Vision and Mission


The vision of this dayah / boarding school is to improve the aqidah Islamiyah in religious, social and state life as well as the implementation of quality education.


The mission of this dayah is to form people who are devoted to Allah swt (Imtaq), and have noble character and are able to apply their knowledge in everyday life towards civil society. Based on the Al-Quran and Al-Hadith that are based on Imam Syafi'ie in the Ahlussunnah Waljamaah understanding.


Basically this Dayah aims to foster children around in the field of religious knowledge, especially fiqh, aqidah and morals / Sufism. In addition, in this place also held recitations for the general public to deepen their religious knowledge.


Around 1964 this dayah was repaired and renovated by the husband of the grandson of Tgk. Mahyiddin whose name is Tgk. HM Daud Zamzami is an alumni of Darussalam Labuhan Haji, South Aceh Regency under the leadership of Tgk. H. Young Wali Al-Khalidy.


This dayah currently owns a waqf land area of ​​50000 M2 and has several other educational facilities. Such as a two-story student dormitory building, permanent study room, cooperative room, jamik mosque and other supporting facilities.


C. Circumstances of the Surrounding Community


Dayah is an educational institution that is very well known in the dynamics of Acehnese society and is one of the oldest religious education institutions. Dayah has succeeded in educating the nation and building human resources since before the independence of Indonesia. One of them is Dayah Riyadhusshalihin which is located in Ateuk Angguk Village.


The location of this dayah is a very strategic area because apart from being in a rural area, it is also close to the center of the provincial capital. Topographically, the surrounding community generally work in the agricultural sector which is economically unprofitable, but besides that there is also a small proportion of them working in the government or private sector. The community around Dayah is classified as religious which is very responsive to religious educational institutions, including religious education institutions of dayah/Islamic boarding schools.


D. Institutional Organization


In general, the dayah educational institutions in Aceh, the central figure that determines the direction of the dayah policy is the Tengku who is the leader of the dayah. However, it all only happened in the past due to the limitations of professional human resources and cannot be separated between the foundation, the leader of the day of administration / management.


In 1964 this dayah had begun to be renovated, both in terms of room arrangement as well as administrative and organizational arrangements. So that this Dayah currently has an adequate organizational structure which consists of:


The existence of a foundation (Yayasan Pembinaan Waqaf Dayah Riyadhusshalihin) as the managing organization, and equipped with Dayah Leaders and assisted by the Secretary and a student organization consisting of the general chairman, several chairmen, secretaries, several deputy secretaries, treasurers and also equipped with appropriate sections. needs.


E. Educational Activities and Learning methods


The education system implemented at Dayah Riyadhusshalihin, always runs in accordance with the development of pesantren/dayah education in the present by using a curriculum designed with the dayahs in Aceh under the Inshafuddin Dayah Association organization which was founded in 1968. The first method/learning system used in this dayah is the salafiyah system where the yellow books studied by the students are traditional, in addition to using the wetonan/bandongan method (a Javanese term) where the students sit around Teungku in studying what we are being taught to him. This system is also sometimes inseparable from the system used in madrasas, namely the classical designation.


Besides the Wetonan/bandongan method, this educational institution also uses discussions or seminars where several students can form groups to hold a halaqah which is directly guided by Tengku in discussing the specified material.


The students who study at this dayah are expected to be able to master religious sciences such as fiqh, monotheism, morals/sufism and other supporting sciences such as nahu sharaf and so on. It is not enough with that, the students are also equipped with social science, preaching, preaching and skills.


At this time, almost all educational institutions of Islamic boarding schools use the classical method where the students are divided into several groups of levels and classes, especially in arranging the lesson schedule to be studied according to their abilities so that one day the students who have completed the subjects according to their level and level will be given a kind of token of appreciation in the form of a diploma, namely as proof that the student has really been in school (trading in Acehnese terms).


For students who have received a diploma, especially the 'Aliyah diploma, they can continue their formal education in higher education, especially at IAIN Jami'ah Ar-Raniry Darussalam Banda Aceh. Mr. After graduating from Dayah, Burhanuddin continued to IAIN Darussalam Banda Aceh and has now been appointed as a Civil Servant within the Ministry of Religion as Head of MTs Lam Ujong Aceh Besar from 2002 until now as well as Secretary at this Dayah/Islamic boarding school.


According to records in the dayah secretariat, Acehnese clerics who have entered the community include establishing new dayahs/Islamic boarding schools and some who have become members of the legislature, civil servants, village heads and so on.


F. Characteristics of Education


This Dayah developed a characteristic as an Islamic educational institution to educate young men and women in various religious sciences.


Dayah Riyadhusshalihin has a characteristic that may be different from the others, namely in addition to studying religious sciences such as Fiqh, Aqidah / Morals, Sufism and other supporting sciences, they are also given knowledge skills such as sewing, electronics, agriculture and others where students are expected to return home when they return. can live independently without depending on others.


 


G. Condition of Santri, Tengku/Kyai and Ustadz


The public's interest in sending their children to study at the Riyadhusshalihin dayah is very enthusiastic. Those who came to this dayah came from various districts within the province of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam and some even came from outside the province.


Currently, there are 212 students studying at the Riyadhusshalihin Dayah, with details of 149 male students and 63 female students, all of whom live in Pondok (Rangkang in Acehnese terms).


The number of students like this is no different between before the earthquake and tsunami on 26 December 2004 and after the earthquake and tsunami. This is because the dayah/pesantren are a little far from the area where the tsunami wave occurred. However, many students were affected by the Tsunami because they returned to their hometowns for Eid al-Fitr with their families.


The 212 students were taken care of by 21 ustadz and 3 ustadz with qualifications of 17 alumni of the salafiyah dayah/Islamic boarding school, 4 khalafiyah alumni and 3 people who have graduated from college (S-1).


H. Facilities and Infrastructure

To support the smooth process of teaching and learning activities, Dayah Riyadhusshalihin has facilities and infrastructure, including 5 study rooms (in conditions requiring upper rehabilitation) and 3 semi-permanent study rooms, 1 mosque, 3 permanent dormitories with 2 floors, 16 WC/bathroom, 1 1-floor dormitory, 1 waserda cooperative unit, 1 library and office room as well as an Administration room equipped with 1 computer unit.


Besides these facilities, Dayah also has 2 hectares of agricultural land planted with rice and secondary crops.


I. Source of Funds and Economic Effort

To organize Teaching and Learning Activities, Dayah Riyadhusshalihin is obtained from compulsory student fees and donations from donors, both individuals and institutions, both government and private. In addition, Dayah Riyadhusshalihin raises funds through economic activities such as Dayah's Waserda Cooperative which was established in 1974 and also through rice and other secondary crops farming activities as well as through 1 unit of rice threshing machine and rental of tratak plus chairs for parties and other receptions.


J. Development Program

To accommodate the public's interest, Dayah Riyadhus-shalihin in the future has opened a 9-year Compulsory Education (Fair) program to open the Out-of-School Education Program (PLS) which consists of Package A, Package B and Package C programs.


In addition to the above program, Dayah Riyadhusshalihin also wishes to establish a ma'had 'Ali at the level of the S-1 program or Islamic High School which this program must be supported first with the Mu' program is a diploma (equivalent diploma) at the 'Aliyah level at the Islamic boarding school. this boarding school.
