The establishment of this Islamic boarding school has become an important role in the spread of Islam in Indonesia through education.

History of the establishment The Sidogiri Islamic Boarding School was founded by Sayyid Sulaiman, who is a descendant of the Prophet from the Basyaiban clan from Cirebon, West Java. He is the son of Sayyid Abdurrahman, a nomad from Hadramaut, Yemen. While his mother named Syarifah Khodijah, daughter of Sultan Hasanuddin bin Sunan Gunung Jati. There are two versions regarding the founding year of the Sidogiri Islamic Boarding School, namely 1718 and 1745.

In a note written by Panca Warga in 1963, it is stated that the Sidogiri Islamic Boarding School was founded in 1718. However, in another letter signed by KA Sa'doellah Nawawie, it was written that the Sidogiri Islamic Boarding School was founded in 1745. In practice, this second version is used as a benchmark for the birthday or birthday of the Sidogiri Islamic Boarding School every year.

The establishment of the Sidogiri Islamic boarding school began with the clearing of Sidogiri Village in Pasuruan, East Java, which was carried out by Sayyid Sulaiman.

In this case, Sayyid Sulaiman was assisted by Kiai Aminullah, a santri and his son-in-law from Bawean Island, Gresik Regency, East Java. It is said that Sayyid Sulaiman cleared Sidogiri, which is still in the form of a wilderness and has never been inhabited by humans, for 40 days. However, Sidogiri was still chosen because the land was believed to be good and blessed.

Management After its establishment, the management of the Sidogiri Islamic Boarding School was held by KH Aminullah until the end of the 18th century, before finally being handed over to Kiai Mahalli, the santri who also helped clear up Sidogiri Village. In the early 1800s, Kiai Mahalli died, so his position was replaced by KH Abu Dzarrin, a santri from Magelang who still had family relations with Sayyid.

After that, successively, the management of the Sidogiri Islamic Boarding School was entrusted to KH Noerhasan bin Noerkhotim, KH Bahar bin Noerhasan, KH Nawawie, KH. Abd. Adzim bin Oerip, KH Abd.
