Sunan Kudus Preaching Peacefully and Avoid Violence

In the process of spreading, the Prophet always prioritized peace and stayed away from violence.

Islam is a religion that teaches peace for every human being. In the process of spreading, the Prophet always prioritized peace and stayed away from violence.

The way of the Prophet was then imitated by the scholars who spread Islam to all corners of the world, including in Indonesia. This method was imitated by Islamic leaders known as 'Wali Songo'.

The Wali Songo preach Islam by studying the customs of the people. This is simply so that Islam can be accepted without having to go through violence.

One of them is the story of Ja'far Shodiq, a scholar who later became more familiarly known as Sunan Kudus. He preached to the Kudus community who at that time were Hindus.

Sunan Kudus's challenge is so heavy in carrying out his da'wah activities. One of them is how to make people not angry if he and his followers eat beef. This is because the cow is an animal that is considered sacred by the Hindu community.

Sunan Kudus knows very well how people will react if they see their worshiped animal being injured. Realizing this, Sunan Kudus then made an announcement that he would decorate the cow, as a tactic so that the public would listen to his lecture at the Holy Mosque.

Knowing the announcement, people flocked to the Holy Mosque out of curiosity about Sunan Kudus's plan to decorate the cows. They then saw Sunan Kudus's cow, named Kebo Gumarang, in the courtyard of the mosque.

Sunan Kudus then invited the public to listen to the story he took from one of the letters in the Koran, Al Baqarah, which means the Female Cow. The people were amazed to hear the story told by Sunan Kudus.

After listening to the story, it turns out that people are still not satisfied and want to hear other stories. Finally, Sunan Kudus compiled many stories and delivered them regularly in every meeting at the Holy Mosque.

More and more, more and more people are attracted to Islam. This makes most of the Hindu community in Kudus choose to change their religion and embrace Islam.

However, Sunan Kudus's da'wah did not eliminate the symbols of Hindu society at all. Sunan Kudus even urges Muslims not to eat beef even though it is halal and replace it with buffalo meat. This appeal is intended to respect the beliefs of the community.
