The 50th Syarah of Wisdom – Syarah al-Hikam

 50th WISDOM OF WISDOM

مَا قَادَكَ شَيْءٌ مِثْلُ الْوَهْمِ

Nothing can drag you down like an illusion.

In fact , it is wahm or illusion that makes humans greedy, because if the heart is sure, it will certainly not be greedy for something that has been determined by Allah. Something that has been determined by Allah is clear and something that is not determined by Him is clearly not.

The scholars divide sins into minor sins and major sins. The basis is the following verse:

"If you stay away from major sins among the sins that you are forbidden to do, We will certainly erase your mistakes (your small sins) and We will enter you into a noble place (heaven)" (Surah An Nisaa: 31)

The definition of a major sin is very diverse, but Shaykh al-Buthi chose the most definitive one, A major sin is every sin that has a threat of punishment in the hereafter, or has a limit in this world.

So the major sins include the following:

Shirk or associating partners with Allah

Hurting both parents

Killing a believer without any rights

Accusing of adultery on muhshan people

eat usury

Run away from the battlefield

Eat the orphan's treasure

adultery

Save testimony

Perjury

Drinking alcohol (whether oplosan or not)

Leave the prayer

Breaking the agreement and breaking the ties of the womb

And.... committing minor sins on a regular basis is also a major sin. Because it includes deceiving God.

Then what should be noted is that sins are sorted into big and small when viewed from the perspective of the Shari'a, where the Shari'a was revealed by Allah purely for the benefit of His servants. The major sins that have been described above are classified as major sins because they are dangerous to the servants of Allah.

Look again at the big sins: killing, usury, drinking alcohol, accusing adultery, adultery, all of which are dangerous for us. so all of that is considered a big sin by the Shari'a, nothing else so that we are safe and comfortable.

While the sins that are classified as minor sins are commonplace related to the rights of Allah, or the rights of creatures that do not harm. So it is clear that severe punishments are set for the perpetrators of major sins for nothing other than for the benefit of the servants of Allah.

As for sin in terms of the status of a servant in relation to his Lord, then there is no term big or small sin here. Without reviewing the Shari'a law, there is no small sin. Everything is big and everything is dangerous, because the obligation of every servant is to worship his Lord and not disobey Him. Every disobedience is a big sin

So in conclusion, if Allah applies justice , then every sinner, big or small, will be punished by Him. But on the other hand, if God applies his grace and mercy , then there is no sin that deserves to be called big. Now, the most important thing for us to know is, what is the way that can bring us to reach His grace? and what path can lead us on the path of God's justice so that we are required to fulfill His rights completely?

The way to achieve His grace is to strengthen the determination to always be firm in obedience and avoid immorality by believing that there is no effort and strength to carry out obedience and avoid disobedience except with Allah.

L aa haula walaa quwwata illaa billaah... We must believe that the ability and strength is only from Allah. After that determination, we must be sure that every obedience we do happens only thanks to God's help. So when we have performed worship, we do not necessarily claim that it was done because our strength we must do is be grateful that we have been given God's help to carry out that worship. We must also hope that the worship is accepted by Allah. Instead of demanding a reward from Him

Then if we fall into disobedience accidentally, we must quickly realize and regret it; humbled himself before His majesty. We must immediately do repentance naasuha; realized, regretted, and determined not to repeat. Now, if we take these steps, it means we are on the path of His grace and mercy. Not in the way of His justice. That is, if our attitude towards God is like that, it means that we are heading towards God's mercy. There is no sin that is considered great here.

But if our attitude towards God is the other way around , it means that we are on the path towards implementing God's justice. That is, if we obey, we admit it as the result of our own efforts. If we are immoral, we even underestimate and lighten. No regrets.

Now, to people who behave like this, God applies His justice. Before His justice, there is no petty sin. All sins are great. In the presence of Allah's justice, all disobedience, no matter how small, is entitled to receive punishment from Him. Na'udzubillah

May we be included in the first group, yes... Namely those who are on the path to God's grace and mercy. Amen.... and may we be avoided from the second path, namely the path of those who are ensnared by Allah's justice... Amen...
