The 60th Syarah of Wisdom – Syarah al-Hikam
60th WISDOM OF WISDOM, AL-HIKAM
"You are a free man for the things you don't expect, but you are a slave for the things you hope for"
This wisdom describes the meaning of self-independence in depth: what is the true meaning of independence? Is being free from the intervention of others called independence? Is being free to express as much as you want is also freedom? Freedom of expression regardless of the noble values of religious traditions and society, is that the meaning of independence?
So what does "freedom" really mean? So how does Islam deal with this?
The simplest characteristics of the Islamic version of independence can be understood from the following few examples: a Muslim has serious problems. He has tried his best to overcome the problems that surround him, but still his efforts always fail. He had tried to consult wise people. He then tried to apply the method of the wise man earlier. But the result? His efforts were in vain and fruitless. There is no benefit to be drawn from the wise man's instructions.
When all the efforts are unsuccessful, he begins to despair. He then swerved and ran for help to Allah. His efforts were devoted only to worship and praying to Allah. For him, there is no other focus other than Allah alone. Unexpectedly, the problems that surrounded him turned out to be gradually gone. Now his life began to feel light and free. So he realized that he was powerless to face life's problems. He also realized that it was only God who could handle it. He then increasingly needs the love of God. He felt humiliated before God. He fears God more and more. So far here are a few examples. Then, what is the conclusion that your mind catches from the example above?
In conclusion, said al-Buthi, Islam sees human freedom as: a plus between the human self and Allah. The more he feels himself empty, weak, helpless and more devoted to God, then that is the meaning of freedom. Serving Allah does not mean we are humiliated. Being a servant of Allah is noble, as in
O you who believe, enter into Islam as a whole, and do not follow the steps of the devil. Verily, Satan is a real enemy to you. [Quran 2:208]
The succinct meaning of this verse: never want to be a servant of the devil, because they are our main enemy. Worship Allah! If you are knowledgeable, surely you know the wisdom of Allah revealed the rules of Islam to this world. Through Islam, God actually wants to regulate humans with the best rules and order of life.
So that they are free from other human intervention, or worldly things that can damage their concentration with Allah. The real rule is that humans only focus on worshiping Allah. Do not follow humans, let alone carried away by the negative current. That is the true meaning of the Islamic version of independence. Freedom that does not colonize, but is profitable. Why be arrogant, always feel like the best and continue to follow the whispers of lust that plunges you if you can't even solve your own problems in the end!
May all our efforts and worship be accepted as righteous deeds by His side. Amen ya Rabbal Alamin.
