The steadfastness of Prophet Ibrahim's faith

The steadfastness of Prophet Ibrahim's faith

Prophet Ibrahim was born in the city of Kawthriya, near Urr and Babylon. At that time the city was led by a tyrannical king, King Namrud. The people there do not worship God. They worshiped Venus, the moon, the sun, idols and even worshiped King Nimrud. They worshiped Namrud out of fear of his cruelty and ferocity. He did not hesitate to seize and even kill the inhabitants.

At the time of Prophet Ibrahim's birth, fortune tellers, often asking for their advice, came to see Namrud. They said, “The stars signal that a baby boy will be born. He will end your kingdom." Namrud anxiously asked, "When was he born?" they also said that the baby was born this year. Immediately Namrud ordered to kill all baby boys born in that year.

Prophet Ibrahim's mother who was pregnant felt worried about the safety of the baby she was carrying. Then he took him to the cave. When he arrived at the cave, Prophet Ibrahim's mother left him in the cave. Prophet Ibrahim lived in a cave for a long time. God took care of him and taught him to suck his fingers to survive until his mother came and took him home.

Ibrahim lived in the house of his grandfather, Azar. Azar was an astrologer as well as an idol maker. Not infrequently Namrud often asks Azar for advice. Azar is the grandfather of his mother's path. By Prophet Ibrahim, Azar was called "Father".

Over time, Ibrahim grew and developed into a young man. He was bestowed with extraordinary intelligence by Allah. He has a clean heart that makes him not believe that there is no god but Allah. He saw many people worshiping other than Allah. But he tried to be wise without violence in guiding the people at that time. Because of his intelligence, not infrequently many realized that what he said about their gods was wrong. There is no God but Allah.

He once destroyed the idols of the people of Babylon. At that time, all the residents went to celebrate spring. Because of his actions, King Namrud was angry and punished him by burning him in a big fire. But Ibrahim was not burned by the great fire. That made everyone, including Namrud, surprised. Because of that event, Namrud let Ibrahim live in peace.

Come out of Babylon

Years passed and Ibrahim married his cousin Sarah. Sarah comes from a wealthy family. He owned land and livestock which were all given to Abraham and he worked on what was given to him. Thanks to the tenacity and grace of Allah, everything develops and increases.

In addition to being tenacious, Ibrahim is a philanthropist. Often treats his guests well. Set aside wealth and love the poor. That's how he lives loved by his people. He invites and calls to his people to worship God.

The fortune-tellers hated and increasingly resented Ibrahim. Namrud himself was afraid of his power. They also expelled Ibrahim from Babylon and confiscated his belongings. Ibrahim, Sarah and Lut decided to emigrate to Egypt. Although initially not accepted by the Egyptian kingdom, the three were also accepted by the Egyptian kingdom.

Then, Abraham and Lot went to Palestine. When he arrived at the Dead Sea, Ibrahim left his cousin. Luth was in charge of calling and inviting the people of Sadum to believe in God. While Ibrahim himself went to Al-Khalil, Palestine. It stayed there for several years.

Married to Hajar

Together with Sarah, Ibrahim was not blessed with children. Therefore, Sarah decided to give her slave, Hajar, to Abraham for marriage. At that time, Ibrahim was 70 years old. Married to Hajar, Ibrahim was blessed with a son whom he named Ismail.

Allah ordered Ibrahim, Hajar and Ishmael to go to the land of the Hejaz (now Saudi Arabia). They traverse the vast and barren desert. Until one day they arrived at a barren land. An angel came down and said to leave Hajar and Ishmael in the land. He was ordered to return to Palestine. Ibrahim obeyed what Allah commanded and finally left both of them in the land, namely the Holy Land.

One day Abraham had three guests. He treats his guests well. It turned out that the three guests were angels who brought news about Lut and his people. The three preached that they would destroy the Sadums. Ibrahim was surprised and worried for his cousin. However, they say Lut and the obedient people will be saved except the disbelievers.

In addition to proclaiming this, the angels also brought good news to Abraham. They reported that Sarah would give birth to a baby boy. Ibrahim and Sarah are happy with the good news. Later that child will also become a prophet, namely Ishaq.

Abraham and Ishmael

For a long time Ibrahim left Hagar and Ishmael. He decided to go visit them. There, Ibrahim and Ismail received God's command to build the Ka'bah, a symbol of God's oneness on Earth. In it there is also Maqom Ibrahim , whoever stands in it will be safe. There is also the Black Stone that God sent from heaven.

Ibrahim and Ismail performed Hajj. Many events in the Hajj are very memorable and make Ibrahim sad. One of them is Sa'i , running from Shafa to Marwa. Remembering the suffering of Hajar and Ishmael that he left behind. It was very sad to remember that plus he remembered his dream a few days ago.

Ibrahim remembered a dream that he had to sacrifice Ismail as a sign of his obedience to God. Because Ibrahim is an obedient person, he did not hesitate to speak to Ismail. However, Ismail is also an obedient person. For both of them, obeying God's command is a must.

Both surrendered to God's command. When he was about to slaughter Ismail, Ibrahim heard a voice. The voice said, "Ibrahim, your dream is true. God has ordered you to slaughter a sheep instead of Ishmael." God has exchanged Ishmael for a sheep to be slaughtered. And both completed their Hajj.

Prophet Ibrahim lived long enough, 120 years he lived. Because he was so old, he was unable to visit Ismail in the Land of Hijaz. Ismail and Ishaq, his two sons were ordered to call people to believe in God. At that time, he was sick until finally Ibrahim died.
