The Story of Abu Bakar al-Mubarak: The Man Who Wasn't Angry Despite Being Insulted Didn't Understand the Knowledge He Pursued
In everyday life, we often encounter people who are easily angry because they are unable to control their lusts. Those who are easily angry are basically caused by several things such as; consider themselves to be the most important, the smartest, the most correct, the narcissistic, perfectionist and neurotic lifestyle.
People like this usually have very high expectations in taking care of themselves and fulfilling their desires, so they are very sensitive and reactive. Especially for small stimuli that hinder or disappoint the goals to be achieved.
Expectations that are too high indeed often lead to disappointment, especially if it is only to seek respect from God's creatures. This is because there is a gap between the desire and the unrealized reality.
The attitude of being easily angry is not the morals taught by the Prophet Muhammad. In fact, anger is an attitude that can destroy and destroy the human mind. Therefore, the attitude of not getting angry easily is a moral that has always been taught by the Prophet Muhammad and his successors, namely the scholars.
One of the scholars who does not get angry easily, even never gets angry at all even when insulted is Abu Bakar al-Mubarak. His full name is Abu Bakar al-Mubarak bin Sa'id bin ad-Dahlan. He is one of the nahwu expert scholars, who busy himself with the knowledge of the Arabic language. In the course of his life, he diligently studied Arabic and memorized some Arabic poems. In fact, he memorized many stories, mastered and knew Arabic, Turkish, Roman, Abyssinian and Negro languages.
As explained by Ibnu Katsir in his book al-Bidayah wa An-Nihayah , Abu Bakar al-Mubarak was a scholar who never got angry at all. Her never angry personality, once made some people bet a man could make her angry.
To the man who was confident that he could make Abu Bakar al-Mubarak angry, they said, " If you can make Abu Bakar angry, then you will get so much money and so much money. "
The man accepted the challenge. He then went to Abu Bakr al-Mubarak and asked about a question in Arabic, which was Abu Bakr al-Mubarak's specialty. Getting a question, Abu Bakr al-Mubarak also gave the answer.
Because he wanted to make Abu Bakar al-Mubarak, the man said, " You are mistaken, teacher. "
Hearing this rebuttal, Abu Bakr al-Mubarak still gave the same answer. However, this time with a different diction.
Because his intention was to make Abu Bakr al-Mubarak angry. The man was adamant and accused Abu Bakr al-Mubarak of lying. He also said, " You have lied, I think you have forgotten the science of nahwu. "
Abu Bakar al-Mubarak calmly replied, " O you, maybe you haven't understood what I said to you. "
While insisting , the man said again, " Yes, I understand, but you are the one who gave the wrong answer. "
Patiently, Abu Bakr al-Mubarak again said, " Tell me what you have understood so that we can learn from you. "
Getting such an answer from Abu Bakr al-Mubarak, the man actually uttered harsh words.
Abu Bakar al-Mubarak, who saw that, smiled and said, " If you bet, you have indeed lost. " You are like a mosquito that falls on the body of an elephant. When he was about to fly, he said to the elephant, "hold on, I will fly." The elephant replied, "I didn't feel anything when you fell on my body. Therefore, I don't need to hold on when you fly. "
What Abu Bakar al-Mubarak did was a legacy of the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, who did not get angry easily when treated badly. He remains patient and does not get angry even though it is considered that he does not understand the knowledge he pursues. And of course, the knowledgeable person has noble character. It is not easy to get emotional and angry, it is not easy to curse and insult even if you have different views.
