The Story of Ahmad bin Mahdi Covering Up the Disgrace of Pregnant Women Out of Wedlock
Ahmad bin Mahdi bin Rustum Abu Ja'far Al-Ashbahani is an Imam, role model, worshiper, hafizh , and mutqin . As explained by Abu Nu'aim al-Ashbahani in his book Hilyatul Auliya' wa Thabaqat al-Asfiya' , that Ahmad bin Mahdi was a wealthy man. He is the person who donated money worth 300,000 dirhams for knowledge. Apart from the rich and philanthropic, for 40 years there was not a single person who was able to convey hadith with tsiqqah in the state of Ashbahan except Ahmad bin Mahdi.
This wealthy Sufi who is generous and famous for his kindness was once visited by a woman from Baghdad. To Ahmad bin Mahdi, the woman told about her origins and her family. He then talked about the situation and the test that was befalling him. The woman said, " I am begging you in the name of Allah swt, cover my shame. "
Hearing the woman's words, Ahmad bin Mahdi asked, " What test is befalling you? The
woman then said, “ I hate myself. Currently, I'm pregnant. And I tell people that, you are my husband. I know that it wasn't you who got me pregnant. But I beg you not to be angry or insult me. Cover my disgrace, may Allah also cover yours. ”
After talking about what he did. The woman left Ahmad bin Mahdi. And after a long time there was no news about the woman. Suddenly news came that the woman who had come to Ahmad bin Mahdi had given birth. Not long after, the head of the village came with his people to see Ahmad bin Mahdi. They also gave congratulations on the birth of the child.
To cover the shame of the woman who was pregnant out of wedlock, Ahmad bin Mahdi showed a cheerful face at the speech given to him. Like a husband who is being blessed with a child.
The next day, he also took out two dinars and gave it to the village head, saying, “ Please give this money to the woman for her child's expenses, because I have been divorced from her for a long time. "Finally, every month Ahmad bin Mahdi gave two dinars to the woman through the intermediary of the village head.
Every time he gave money, Ahmad bin Mahdi always told the village chief, " This money is for my son until he is two years old. ” Not long after, the child died. People also came to pay their respects to Ahmad bin Mahdi. He also showed a sincere face about the incident.
Suddenly one night, the Baghdad woman came back to see Ahmad bin Mahdi. It turned out that he came with some dinars that Ahmad bin Mahdi had given him through the hands of the village chief.
It turned out that the woman returned all the money that had been given by Ahmad bin Mahdi. The woman said to him, " I will return this money to you. May God cover your shame as you cover mine. "
Hearing the woman's words, Ahmad bin Mahdi immediately replied, " This money is a form of my love for the child. Because you have taken care of him, then the money is yours. Use the money for your purposes. ”
The story above provides an important lesson in human life, that covering someone's disgrace is a noble act. The Prophet himself reminded that whoever covers someone's disgrace, then Allah swt. will cover his disgrace in this world and the hereafter.
