The Story of the Battle of Badr in the Month of Ramadan: When Muslims are Urged and Helped by Allah SWT through a Entourage of Angels
The Story of the Battle of Badr in the Month of Ramadan: When Muslims are Urged and Helped by Allah SWT through a Entourage of Angels
On Friday the 17th of Ramadhan in the 2nd year of Hijrah, two teams faced each other in the field of Badr. In total, the two opposing teams were clearly not comparable. From the foot of the local hill, the Quraysh team saw how small the group of companies that would duel with them was.
Even so, there was little doubt that hit some members of the Quraysh army. It wasn't the sheer number of troops they would face, but what kind of pride would result from cross-slashing against the brothers. The ones against this time were not enemies from nowhere, but their own kin. The morale of the war choked the pulse of the pride of the Quraish troops.
"O Quraysh, I do not believe that Muhammad's army will be killed. In fact, it's possible that they would kill you first. If this happens until their numbers with your numbers are equal, then what will will be left?” said Umair bin Wahab to the elite of Quraysh.
A similar doubt also struck from the bottom of Utbah bin Rabi'ah's heart. This is about the thread of Utbah's anxiety:
“O people of Quraysh, you will not gain anything from the war against Muhammad and his companions. If they lose, you will be despised forever for killing your own uncles, cousins and family. Therefore return to your homes and leave Muhammad. Let him deal with Arabs other than you. If Muhammad and his companions were killed, it would be in line with your expectations, but if not, you would be seen as having shown patience with him."
In contrast to that, the troops of the Prophet Muhammad SAW did not show any fear at all. If the Hezbollah troops could be so persistent against the colony immediately after Hadlratus Shaykh Hasyim Asy'ari issued a fatwa on compulsory war for Muslims who were within a 94 km radius from the center of the battle against the Allied troops, then you can imagine how powerful the explosion of heroism of the companions of Muhajirin and Ansar when the Prophet was. SAW received a revelation about permission for war.
In the past, the people of Muhammad SAW could only be patient, patient, and patient. But radical steps must be taken when the future of the faithful is at stake.
And, through measured pressing-triggers , this time the Muslims will score a victory in the valley of Badr. Similar to what Karim Benzema did when grazing, to tear apart the opponent's defense, we sometimes need to provoke them to make blunders in the weakest areas. Donnarumma, Mendy, and Karius may be witnesses of how powerful Benzema is in reading his opponent's weaknesses.
For the Quraysh, the trading caravan in which amassed wealth and valuables were accumulated was the weak point of their strength. Prophet Muhammad knew that very well. So, when there was information about the passage of Abu Sufyan's group after a trade trip in Syria, Talhah and Sa'id (Umar's cousin) were sent by the Prophet SAW to be spies. Their task was simple: to report on the situation on the ground and trace the route of Abu Sufyan's trading caravan.
It's a pity, the investigation was discovered by the Quraysh. Through the hypocrites who infiltrated the ranks of the Muslims, the information compiled by the Prophet Muhammad leaked to the ears of Abu Sufyan.
Indeed, the situation on the ground slightly deviated from the original plan. But isn't that common in everyday life strategies?
After all, Abu Sufyan was still provoked by emotions so he was quite impulsive in responding to the movements of the Muslims.
A moment later, a man from the Ghifar tribe named Damdam was sent by Abu Sufyan to hurry to inform the people of Mecca. His proposal was to request that reinforcements be sent to protect the Quraysh trading caravan.
Thousands of Quraysh troops crept towards Badr and immediately evacuated Abu Sufyan's merchandise. Now the trade caravan is safe. To the Quraysh forces, Abu Sufyan requested that they immediately turn back to Mecca. Here then there is a cross opinion.
Internal turmoil within the body of the Quraysh troops heated up. Some feel that the reasons for the war are no longer relevant. Others argued that the thousands of soldiers already in Badr would only become losers if they drove home.
The arrogance, arrogance, and feelings of victory were even more turbulent in the Quraysh army. Abu Jahal even scornfully mocked those who doubted the war that was in sight against Muhammad's people.
"You coward Utbah!!" cursed Abu Jahl.
"Later, you will know who is a coward and does bad things for his own people," replied Utbah after failing to convince the Quraish forces to return to Mecca.
The smell of war was getting sharper. While the Quraysh were arguing with their own people, the Muslims held briefings , enforced war discipline, and offered prayers. Perhaps the latter is the most striking differentiation between the two armies in the arena of Badr.
" Oh God, fulfill what you promised me. Ya Allah, indeed I will collect your promise ."
The prayer that was said directly by the Prophet Muhammad SAW strengthened the awareness of Muslims about the paradise that has been promised to those who are serious about jihad. The war broke out. The action of sword fighting, killing, and fighting physical strength come together in one word: Fight.
In war, anything is possible. In numbers, Muslims clearly do not benefit. And, that's the fact. The horror of the war further slashed the strength of the Prophet Muhammad's troops. It is precisely in this pulse of chaos that the human mentality is forged.
" Knowing that you have little chance of success is just a human quality that is just difficult to imagine , " said Timothy Orr, a military history expert at Old Domonion University. while commenting on the details of the Pacific War at Midway.
So, when the ranks of the faithful became more and more desperate and reduced, the Prophet SAW then prayed again. This time, the prayer contained a deep tremor.
" Oh God, if this team is destroyed today, of course there will be no one to worship You, unless You really want it forever ."
The Qur'an records the angelic armies quite tactically, energetically, and continuously. The descent of angels in the battle of Badr not only helped the believers, but also humiliated the Quraysh army.
(Remember), when you ask for help from your Lord, then He grants it to you: "Surely I will bring reinforcements to you with a thousand angels who come in succession" . (QS al-Anfal: 9)
(Remember), when your Lord revealed to the angels: "Indeed I am with you, so strengthen (the position of) those who have believed". Later I will strike fear into the hearts of the disbelievers, so cut off their heads and chop off every fingertip. (QS Al-Anfal: 12)
So (the truth is) it is not you who kill them, but Allah who kills them, and it is not you who throw when you throw, but Allah who throws. (Allah did so to destroy them) and to give victory to the believers, with a good victory. Indeed, Allah is All-Hearing and All-Knowing. (QS Al-Anfal: 17)
In no time, the situation immediately reversed. Now the Quraysh army was sinking into the horizon of defeat. Nearly seventy of the Meccan elite were taken prisoner. Abu Jahal himself died after his head was slashed.
Even so, the Battle of Badr was still not an easy situation for both sides. The brotherhood factor still shines between them. Umar bin Khathab, for example, had to draw a sword in front of his own uncle, Ash bin Hisham bin Mughirah.
War is an absolute fragment in the history of Islamic civilization. At this point, the Prophet Muhammad is clearly showing how the character of a messenger is grounded and full of balance: that in the universe of movement it is not only about spreading the teachings of love, but also being directly involved in physical confrontation.
Badr, thus, is proof of how the Prophet Muhammad merged in the human side which distinguished him from his predecessor, Noah alaihissalam or Isa alaihissalam . Charles Le Gai Eaton aka Hassan Abdul-Hakeem, for example, said that the example of the Prophet SAW in Islam is very different from the example of Christ who is full of spirituality.
“Muhammad SAW was destined to live a life full of great experiences that a human being might also face in his lifetime… When faced with some of the common problems of humanity, the Christian will search within his own heart to discover what Jesus might have done. As for a Muslim, they almost certainly know what Muhammad SAW was going to do…” he wrote in the book Islamic Spirituality Foundation .
Later, the step of the Prophet Muhammad to fight it actually became a serious problem that was complicated and exhausting for the Islamic movement. While a storm of stereotypes hit Islam which was accused of being the inspiration for violence, some Muslims actually displayed arrogance similar to the Quraysh infidels. Both are, of course, ridiculous.
It is no less ironic when the third axis emerges: the interpretation of Islam that tries to counter-attack to the previous two by revising the 'verse of war', or burying the reality of the Battle of Badr and other military expeditions in the history of Islamic civilization.
FYI , in the decade leading up to his death, the Prophet made no less than 74 military expeditions and 24 of them were directly led by the Prophet SAW, whether for the motive of protection, gathering strength, or expanding the influence of the movement.
But of course, war here is not in the sense of an expression of savagery because Islam in fact also provides room for peace. In fact, it is God Himself who is more pressing for peace than conflict or a fight of arms which will only result in many victims.
