The Story of a Generous Wife Who Gets Four Thousand Dinars
The Story of a Generous Wife Who Gets Four Thousand Dinars
Alkisah, one day Abu Abdillah al-Waqidi al-Qadhi was in a state of utter distress, and at that time he was with Yahya bin Khalid al-Barmaki who held the position of Governor of the province and Vizier for Caliph Harun al-Rasyid. Suddenly al-Waqidi's wife came and said to her husband, " The holiday has arrived, but we don't have a single penny." "
Hearing his wife's words, al-Waqidi then went to see one of his friends who was a merchant. As explained by Khatib al-Baghdadi in his book Tarikh Baghdad , to his friend, al-Waqidi explained about his arrival. He then told his friend if he wanted to go into debt. After listening to al-Waqidi's speech, the merchant and al-Waqidi's friend immediately took out a bag containing money and stamped it with the writing of one thousand two hundred dirhams.
After his needs were met, al-Waqidi then packed up the items and said goodbye to go home. Not long after arriving home, it turned out that a friend named al-Hasyimi (from the descendants of Bani Hashim) came to his house. The friend who came later complained about the delay in his income and was also in need of a loan.
Hearing his friend's complaint, al-Waqidi immediately went inside to meet his wife. He informed his wife of al-Hasyimi's arrival, and his wife asked al-Waqidi back, " What do you think you will give him?" "
Al-Waqidi also answered his wife's question, " I will give some of the contents of this bag to him. ”
Hearing her husband's answer, al-Waqidi's wife commented, " You didn't do anything. You go to your friend who trades in the market; and he lends you one thousand two hundred dirhams. Now someone who has kinship with the Messenger of Allah. come to you, but you will give half of what your merchant friend gave! It's not worth it! Just give the whole bag to him! ”
Al-Waqidi then went out with the bag and gave it all to al-Hasyimi.
At another time, his friend al-Waqidi who was a merchant and who lent him money went to see al-Hasyimi, he was also friends with Al-Hasyimi. Apparently, his visit to al-Hasyimi was to find a loan. Al-Hasyimi immediately took out the bag that came from al-Waqidi to him.
When his friend al-Waqidi and also al-Hasyimi saw the money stamp in al-Hasyimi's pocket, he was shocked. Because he recognized the writing. The merchant then hurried to meet al-Waqidi and narrated the incident.
At the same time, a messenger Yahya bin Khalid al-Barmaki came to meet al-Waqidi. The messenger delivered a message from Yahya, " Indeed, my messenger came to you late because I was busy with some needs of the Amirul Mu'minin. "
Al-Waqidi then immediately went to Yahya bin Khalid. When he met him, al-Waqidi told him about a bag full of money that he borrowed but returned to the person who borrowed it. Hearing al-Waqidi's story, Yahya said to his guard, " Guard. Bring the money over there! "
The guard came to bring ten thousand dinars to Yahya. After receiving the money, Yahya said, “ For you two thousand dinars, take it. Two thousand dinars for your friend, two thousand dinars for al-Hasyimi, and four thousand dinars for your wife, because she is the most generous among you. ”
Philanthropy deserves to be valued dearly, as was done by Yahya bin Khalid al-Barmaki to al-Waqidi's wife. In addition to being worthy of being valued and expensive, a generous attitude can bring a lot of sustenance, be liked by many people and of course be close to Allah SWT as the hadith of the Prophet saw;
Meaning: The generous person is close to Allah, close to heaven, close to humans, and far from hell. On the other hand, the stingy person is far from Allah, far from heaven, far from humans, and close to hell. And a generous fool is more beloved to Allah than a miserly worshiper.
