The Story of Ibrahim al-Harbi Receiving Remittances From Unknown People When In Trouble
One of the tests given by Allah swt. to His servants is to be tested with a difficulty. Whether it's difficulties in learning, difficulties in economic terms, or something else. However, with the test in the form of difficulties, do not make yourself despair. Because, that's when humans are being tested by God to get to the next level of life. Of course, Allah swt. will also provide assistance to His Servants.
Therefore, when we are afflicted with calamity or disaster, it means Allah swt. wants us to surrender all our problems totally to Him. And thus, the help of Allah swt. will soon come down to us.
God's help. that is what Ibrahim al-Harbi has ever experienced, as described in the book Shifat ash-Shafwah by Ibn al-Jauzi. One time, Ibrahim al-Harbi experienced economic difficulties. The difficulties he experienced to the point where he did not have food supplies for his family.
Seeing her husband a scholar who wrote many books and had many books, but had nothing to eat, the wife said to him, " You and I can be patient, but what about our two daughters? Please provide some of your books for us to sell or pawn. "
Hearing his wife's request, Ibrahim al-Harbi was reluctant to fulfill the request. To his wife, he said, “ Borrow something for our two daughters, and please wait until time is left for today. "
Ibrahim al-Harbi then entered his house, precisely in a room that contained various books. He then sat down to copy and study his books, surrendering himself to his Lord. When night came, suddenly someone knocked on his door.
“ Who is it? ' asked Ibrahim al-Harbi to the person who knocked on his door.
From the outside, the man replied, “ I am one of your neighbors. "
Ibrahim al-Harbi then said, “ Please come in! However, the people outside did not come in. Instead, he said to Ibrahim, " Turn off the light first, then I will enter ."
Ibrahim al-Harbi then covered his lamp, and said, “ Please come in! "
The man then entered and left something in Ibrahim al-Harbi's pocket, then he left without revealing his true identity. And Ibrahim al-Harbi didn't even know his real face.
Ibrahim al-Harbi then reopened the lamp he had closed. When he looked, there was an expensive handkerchief. Inside were various kinds of food, and a note containing 500 dirhams.
Immediately, Ibrahim al-Harbi called his wife and said, “ Please wake up the children, and order them to eat until they are full. "
The next day, Ibrahim al-Harbi and his wife paid the debt with the dirhams. The next day again, he sat in front of his door. At that time there was a group of pilgrims from Khurasan coming. It turned out that there was a camel guide from the pilgrims who was herding two camels with money loaded. The camel guide also asked about the house of Ibrahim Al-Harbi.
Finally, the camel guide arrived before Ibrahim al-Harbi, and asked him about Ibrahim al-Harbi's house. Ibrahim immediately replied that he was a person named Ibrahim al-Harbi.
The camel guide of the pilgrims unraveled the two bundles of money, and said, “ These two bundles were given to you by someone from the people of Khurasan. "
Ibrahim who got the bundle was shocked, and asked, " Who is it? "
The camel driver replied, " That person has asked for my oath so that I will not tell you who he really is. "
This incident that happened to Ibrahim al-Harbi was later told to Ahmad Sulaiman al-Qath'i when he experienced a similar thing. To Solomon, Ibrahim then said, " Do not be tight in your chest, for it is Allah who will provide help. "
As a servant who believes in the power of Allah swt and His love. both in this world and in the hereafter. It is not appropriate when you get a difficult test and then give up. Because of orders from the Almighty in addition to trying their best in the face of the given test, of course Allah swt orders His Servants to leave all problems to Him. Because, Allah swt will give help to His servants who try and surrender themselves to the Almighty.
What Ibrahim al-Harbi did by writing and studying books, despite being hit by economic difficulties, was part of worship. This is as stated by Habib Novel bin Alaydrus that the worship of people who are given an intelligent brain is to open a book, study it, and write it down. Not by multiplying sunnah prayers, let alone busy looking for wealth.
