The Story of the Miser and the Love of the World: His Stomach Filled with Hot Gold While in the Grave
The Story of the Miser and the Love of the World: His Stomach Filled with Hot Gold While in the Grave
Once upon a time, long ago, in an area called Ahsa' there lived a man, let's call him so and so. This so-and-so has a neighbor, and the neighbor is an old man with gray hair.
The old man also lived alone. He has no wife, children or relatives. However, the old man owned a shop as well as a sandal and shoe craftsman. He also likes to accumulate and store his possessions. As explained by Sayyid Husain Al-Affani in his book al-Jazaa' min Jinsi al-'Amal , one day the old man was late for the shop as usual. He didn't go out to his shop.
So and so were surprised to see things that are not as usual. After the evening prayer, he went to his neighbor's house. Arriving at the neighbor's house, he was greeted with the sight of a door that was tilted. Even if the wind blows, the door will surely fall.
So and so then opened the door of the house. Slowly, he put his feet into the house, saying, " O so and so. ”
Hearing someone enter, his neighbor who is a sandal and shoe craftsman was shocked, shouted while saying, " Woe to you, what do you want? Go! And get out of here! ”
Seeing the neighbor's reaction, so and so said, " I came here just to see you. Because these three days, I didn't see you in your shop. "Instead of getting a good reception, it turns out that the neighbor actually kicked him out.
Because they were expelled, so and so came out. However, he was worried about his neighbor's condition. He was worried that the neighbor would get sick or something would happen to him, especially since he lived alone.
Reluctantly, the so and so came back. This time he was desperate to enter the neighbor's house. Turns out, the neighbor was collecting gold. In front of him were gold dinars that gleamed in the lamplight, and beside him was oil. At that time, his neighbor was talking to his property.
To the gold he had, he said, " O my beloved, O whom I spent my life looking for, I will die and leave you for someone other than me. Unwilling to leave the treasure that had become his lover, he immediately said again, " No, by Allah, I know that my death is near, and my illness is chronic, but I will bury you with me. ”
After that, the neighbor took a gold dinar. He dipped it in the oil, then put it in his mouth, and swallowed it. Because of his actions, he almost died instantly. After successfully inserting the gold into his stomach, he took another breath, and raised the second dinar. To the second dinar, he spoke with longing and madness. It was as if the dinar was a lover who had come from a faraway place. He then again dipped it in the oil, then took it and put it again in his mouth, then swallowed it.
Seeing this, so and so mumbled, " By Allah, no one will take the property of this miser but a traveler. It was on this day that I became the traveler. ”
After seeing the incident, so and so closed the door of his neighbor's house, and tied him with a rope. After three days passed, so and so were sure that the neighbor had died. He went to his house. It turned out to be true, his neighbor was petrified and dry on his bed, after swallowing the pile of gold that was in front of him. So and then told the people to carry his body and wash it.
However, the people who carried the body were surprised, why his body was heavy. They also said, “ This person is only skin and bones, but why is it so heavy? ”
Then, someone answered, " That's because of his stinginess. Some say, " It's because of his sins. However, all of them did not know the secret known to so and so who witnessed that, the old man who lived alone put a lot of gold into his stomach.
The man's body was then buried, and so and so gave a mark on his grave. When it was midnight, he came with an ax and a hoe. He began digging the neighbor's grave. While looking left and right to make sure things were safe, and no one saw him.
Si Fulan then removed the rocks from the grave, until finally the neighbor's white shroud appeared. He then tore the shroud in the abdomen with a knife, then split open the stomach of the neighbor's corpse. As it turned out, gold shone in the shimmering moonlight. He stretched out his hand to take it, but the gold dinar was as hot as burning coals. Immediately he shouted and pulled his hand from the corpse's stomach. He then returned the stones, and the graveyard to its original state.
The incident immediately made so and so out with a loud scream. Because, he had never experienced such pain and pain. Even though his hands had been soaked in the cold water, but over the years, he still felt the golden heat from time to time. He also said, " I seek refuge in Allah from misguidance and miserliness. ”
From the story above, there is an important lesson that, the miserly (miser) person is far from Allah, and far from His Heaven. This is according to the words of the Prophet Muhammad.
Meaning: The generous person is close to Allah, close to heaven, and far from hell. The miserly person is far from Allah, far from others, and close to hell. (HR. at-Tirmidhi no. 1961)
Miserly behavior itself has a bad impact, both in this world and in the hereafter. In fact, this behavior can make humans not only far from their God, but also far from each other and lose their minds. He will do everything he can so that his property does not fall to someone other than him, even if he dies.
People who are stingy and love the world will become humans who have lost their humanity. Because he is not willing if his property is given to someone else for free. However, people like that will get what they deserve, as the story above. Getting doomed since in the grave with treasures loved while living in the world.
