The Story of Prophet Ibrahim AS: Ulul Azmi's Apostle Who Doesn't Work On Burning

Prophet Ibrahim AS is a prophet sent by Allah to preach to the Kaldan people. These people were known as pagans with their proud king, King Namrud.

Quoted from the book Ibrahim Alaihissalam by Abu Haafizh Abdurrahmad, Prophet Ibrahim AS was the father of the prophets (Abul Anbiya). He has a son, namely the Prophet Ismail AS.

1. His birth was dreamed of by King Namrud

It is said that one night, in the land of Babylon, King Namrud dreamed that a boy had entered his rest room. The boy approached him and brought his hand to King Namrud to remove the crown he was wearing.

King Namrud couldn't do anything. The little boy then slammed King Namrud's crown to pieces. Suddenly he woke up in a cold sweat.

The next day, he gathered all the fortune tellers to explain the meaning of the dream he had. One of the fortune tellers said that the dream he had was a great omen for his doom.

The fortune teller said, a son will be born who will eventually eliminate all the power of King Namrud.

2. Saved Baby

King Namrud ordered to kill all male babies born in the land. The royal soldiers came to every pregnant woman.

It is said that one of the best sculptors named Azar had a wife who was heavily pregnant. Fearing that King Namrud would kill him, Azar's wife ran away from home.

Until the birth of Prophet Ibrahim AS who later as an adult became the answer to the dream of the destruction of King Namrud.

3. Miracles of Prophet Ibrahim AS

Quoted from the book by Sheikh Said Abdul Azhim, Prophet Ibrahim AS did not feel the heat of the blazing fire when he was burned by King Namrud. The fire that burned the body of Ibrahim AS instantly turned cold. That is a miracle that Allah SWT gave him.

Prophet Ibrahim AS also had a miracle allowed by Allah SWT to revive a dead bird. This incident is narrated in QS Al-Baqarah verse 260.

And (remember) when Ibrahim said: "O my Lord, show me how You bring the dead to life." Allah said: "Are you not convinced yet?" Ibrahim replied: "I have convinced him, but so that my heart remains steady (with my faith). Allah says: "(Then) take four birds, then chop them all up by you. (Allah says): "Then put on each hill one part of it, then call them, surely they will come to you with immediately." And know that Allah is Mighty, Wise." (Surat al-Baqarah: 260)

4. Not Burning

It is narrated that Prophet Ibrahim AS destroyed all the idols in the country. Including the biggest idol exalted by King Namrud. For this incident, King Namrud ordered to burn the prophet Ibrahim AS alive. However, Allah SWT provides protection through His miracles.

Allah SWT says in QS Al-Anbiya 'verse 68-70 as follows,

Arabic-Latin: qālụ arriqụhu wanṣurū ālihatakum ing kuntum fā'ilīn ulnā yā nāru kụnī bardaw wa salāman 'alā ibrāhīm wa arādụ bihī kaidan fa ja'alnāhumul-akh

Meaning: "They said: "Burn him and help your gods, if you really want to act". make them the most losers."

5. The Order to Slaughter His Son

It is said that one night, Prophet Ibrahim AS dreamed of getting an order to slaughter his favorite son, Ismail.

Allah SWT says in QS Ash-Shaffat verse 102,

Meaning: "So when the child arrived (at the age of being able to) try with Ibrahim, Ibrahim said: "O my son, I actually saw in a dream that I was slaughtering you. So think about what you think!" He replied: "O my father, do what you are commanded; God willing, you will find me among the patient ones."

When he (Ibrahim) laid down his son who was ready to be slaughtered and both of them submitted and submitted to the will of Allah SWT, Prophet Ismail AS was replaced with a large slaughter.

This event is then commemorated as the Day of Sacrifice. Allah SWT says in QS Ash-Shaffat verses 103-109 which means:

"When both of them had surrendered and Ibrahim laid his son on (his) temples, (their patience was evident). And We called him: "O Ibrahim, indeed you have confirmed the dream, indeed We give recompense to those who do good. In fact this is a real test. And We ransomed the child for a big sacrifice. We immortalized for Ibrahim that (good praise) among those who came later, (ie) "Prosperity be upon Ibrahim".

6. Apostle Ulul Azmi

For his extraordinary fortitude and patience, Prophet Ibrahim AS was nicknamed the Apostle Ulul Azmi.

Allah SWT says in QS As-Shura verse 13,

Meaning: "He has prescribed for you about the religion which He has willed to Noah and what We have revealed to you and what We have passed on to Abraham, Moses and Jesus, namely: Establish religion and do not be divided about it. It is very hard for the polytheists of the religion to which you call them. Allah draws to that religion those whom He wills and guides (to Him) those who return (to Him)."

Such is the story of Prophet Ibrahim AS in fighting the idols worshiped by the Kaldun. Friends of wisdom, may we always have the fortitude like Prophet Ibrahim AS.
