The Story of Prophet Ismail and the Miracle of Prophet Ismail - Every Muslim every year will definitely celebrate the day of sacrifice or known as Eid al-Adha. On this day, Muslims will slaughter a sacrificial animal in the form of a cow or goat or camel. Behind the occurrence of Eid al-Adha there is a story of two prophets in which they both have blood relations, namely father and son. In the story of the Prophet and the Apostle, Prophet Ibrahim AS is the father of Prophet Ismail AS, their relationship is exemplary by Muslims, especially when carrying out Allah's commands.


The story of the occurrence of Eid al-Adha is always interesting to be discussed every year, especially during the celebration of sacrifice. In addition, the story of Prophet Ibrahim AS and Prophet Ismail AS also has a lot of values ​​or life lessons that we can take and use in everyday life, so that our good deeds can increase.


Talking about the story of Prophet Ismail AS cannot be separated from Prophet Ibrahim AS who is his biological father, especially stories related to the emergence of the Feast of Sacrifice (Eid al-Adha). The existence of the story of Prophet Ismail AS and Prophet Ibrahim AS shows that how much love is felt by children for their children. Prophet Ismail AS who is the son of Prophet Ibrahim was ready to accept that he was slaughtered as ordered by Allah.


The story of Prophet Ismail: Hijrah to Mecca


Siti Sarah is the first wife of Prophet Ibrahim AS, but their marriage has not been blessed with children. At that time, the age of Prophet Ibrahim AS and Siti Sarah was already considered old age. Siti Sarah, who was aware of this, then gave permission to Prophet Ibrahim AS to remarry together with Siti Hajar.


Prophet Ibrahim AS always asked God to give the baby. Allah's prayers were answered by him. Marriage together with Siti Hajar was blessed with a son named Ismail. The name given has a very deep meaning (according to the Hebrew), namely Isma means hearing and El means Allah, so Ishmael is Allah Who Hears. Prophet Ibrahim AS gave the name Ismail because Allah had heard and granted his request.


Prophet Ibrahim AS migrated to Mecca on the basis of God's command. He migrated with his second wife Siti Hajar and his son Nabi Ismail AS. This order from God appeared because Prophet Ibrahim made a decision after seeing his first wife was not happy with the happiness felt by Prophet Ibrahim AS and Siti Hajar.


This migration to Mecca was done by riding a camel and after arriving in Mecca they began to look for a place to take shelter. Found a tree that can be used for shelter, the tree is a tree dauhah and they immediately descended from the camel.


Prophet Ibrahim AS began to leave his wife and child under the dauhah tree. Actually Prophet Ibrahim AS did not have the heart to leave his wife and child in a very quiet and lonely place, but all this was because of Allah's command, so Prophet Ibrahim AS did not want to violate it.


Before leaving his wife and children, the prophet Ibrahim told his wife, "Keep fearing God who has determined His will. Trust in His power and grace. He is the one who gave me the order to bring you (wife) here.


It is he who will provide refuge in this desolate place. Had it not been for the command and revelation from Allah, I would not have the heart to leave you with my beloved son. Believe, O Hajar, that Allah will not abandon you both without His protection. His mercy and blessings will always come down forever, God willing."


Siti Hajar only brought a pot of drinking water and a few dates. Siti Hajar's heart felt calm after listening to the message from Prophet Ibrahim AS. In that quiet place, Siti Hajar began to pray to God to always be given protection so that she could survive in that arid and barren place.


The Story of Prophet Ismail: Finding Zamzam Water

In a quiet place and there is no one other than Siti Hajar and her child, Ismail must feel lonely, so Ismail always cries when he is thirsty. With great affection, Siti Hajar breastfeeds her son when he is thirsty. However, after one day in that quiet place, Siti Hajar began to feel sad because she saw that the availability of dates and water supplies had started to run out. When she was sad, Siti Hajar always hoped that someone else would pass by that quiet place and help herself and her son.


Until one day, Ismail's son couldn't stop crying because Siti Hajar's milk couldn't come out, so Ismail's thirst didn't go away. The louder Ismail's cry, the more confused Siti Hajar had to do to make Ismail's thirst disappear and his crying began to disappear.


To calm Ismail, Siti Hajar began to go to Bukit Safa and was forced to leave Ismail on the sand. Siti Hajar hoped that when she arrived at Bukit Safa she would find water so that her son's thirst would disappear. When they arrived at Bukit Safa, Siti Hajar could not find drinking water for her son.


Then, he ran to go to Mount Marwah and on that hill, there was still no water to drink. Not just once, Siti Hajar went back and forth to Bukit Safa and continued to Bukit Marwah seven times, but still no drinkable water was found and Siti Hajar felt useless because she couldn't find water.


Siti Hajar returned to Ismail full of confusion and anxiety because she could not find water. However, God wanted something else and helped Siti Hajar through the angel Jibril who changed her form into a human, then Angel Jibril stomped his feet saying "Zamzam! Zamzam!” until enough water comes out and spreads and forms like a small well.


After the angel Jibril left, Siti Hajar immediately drank Zamzam water to quench her thirst. Not only that, Siti Hajar felt full after drinking the Zamzam water and then she breastfed her son, Ismail. After getting all the pleasures that can be felt by Siti Hajar and her son, Siti Hajar continues to thank God.


The zamzam water provided a lot of benefits not only for Siti Hajar and Ismail, but for many people, such as the group of the Jurhum tribe who at that time felt thirsty and were confused looking for a source of water. As time went by, more and more people began to live near the zamzam water, until the place that had been quiet and lonely slowly began to become crowded and Siti Hajar did not feel lonely.


Ismail, the son of Prophet Ibrahim and Siti Hajar, began to grow older and he helped his mother to herd goats and sheep to Padang Arafah. Until finally, Siti Hajar and Ismail's life is getting better, prosperous, and peaceful. Siti Hajar, Ismail and the people of Mecca take care of the purity of the very holy zamzam water and with the zamzam water the life of the Meccan community is moving towards happiness. The presence of zamzam water shows God's love for Siti Hajar and Ismail.


The Story of Prophet Ishmael: Command To Slaughter Ishmael


At one time, Prophet Ibrahim AS really wanted to meet Siti Hajar and Ismail and he asked permission from Siti Sarah to go meet Siti Hajar and Ismail. After getting permission from Siti Sarah, Prophet Ibrahim AS began to go to the place where he left his wife and children in a quiet and lonely place.


Arriving at the destination, Prophet Ibrahim AS was surprised because the place that was once quiet, is now crowded and inhabited by many people and the lives of his wife and son are getting better and more prosperous. Siti Hajar who saw the arrival of Prophet Ibrahim AS was very happy and very happy because after a long time no see.

 Prophet Ibrahim who was too tired after traveling long distances began to rest himself in Masy'aril Haram (now Musdalifah). Prophet Ibrahim AS, who was fast asleep, had a dream in the form of an order to slaughter his son Ismail as a sacrifice to Allah.


After getting that dream, Prophet Ibrahim AS immediately woke up from his sleep and thought for a long time while trying to interpret the meaning of the dream of slaughtering his son. Until the morning, Prophet Ibrahim AS could not close his eyes and kept trying to interpret his dream, then he wanted to tell his wife and son, but was afraid to add anxiety and worry to his wife and son.


After finishing his activities in the morning and the night came, Prophet Ibrahim AS immediately went to sleep to rest his body. During that sleep, Prophet Ibrahim AS began to dream of getting an order to slaughter his son, "Oh, Ibrahim. Slaughter Ismail to sacrifice to Allah SWT Slaughter Ismail as a sacrifice to Allah SWT!" The order to slaughter made Prophet Ibrahim AS so confused that sweat wet his brow. The heart of Prophet Ibrahim AS began to feel restless and restless, so he took ablution water and prayed.


After two dreams in the form of an order to slaughter, Prophet Ibrahim AS still accepted to slaughter his son the third time. In the third dream, Prophet Ibrahim AS began to believe that the command to slaughter was an order from Allah. After thinking long and full of faith, Prophet Ibrahim AS would still slaughter his son, Ismail even though the devil had teased him that the order was wrong.


Prophet Ibrahim called his son and began to speak, "my son, Ismai, I really hope that you will always be patient and steadfast in accepting God's orders." Ismail was very sincere and patient to accept all the orders, "father, whatever God orders, just say it! I will remain patient and persevere and as a servant of God all his orders must be carried out. Explain the order and I will be patient to listen to it.”


After hearing all the explanations from his father, Ismail continued to show patience and fortitude. However, his wife, Siti Hajar was very surprised after hearing all the commands of Allah that were told in the dream of Prophet Ibrahim AS. Siti Hajar also burst into tears with tears running down her cheeks and could only hug her beloved son before being slaughtered.


Siti Hajar could only cry because if it was an order from Allah, she would not be able to refuse it and would still carry out all the commands of Allah. The next day, Siti Hajar had to release her son to be brought by Prophet Ibrahim AS to a place to carry out Allah's orders.


On the way to the destination, Prophet Ibrahim AS and Ismail received many temptations from the devil not to carry out God's command. However, with full confidence they both continue to the place to sacrifice Ismail. After reaching the destination, Bukit Malaikat Nabi Ibrahim AS did not dare to slaughter his son, so he covered Ismail's face.


When Prophet Ibrahim AS wanted to carry out God's orders, then the angel Gabriel, who was sent by God, came to prevent the slaughtering process from happening. After that, the angel Gabriel replaced Ismail with a goat and ordered Prophet Ibrahim AS, "to make this day a feast for you both and give some of the goat meat to the poor."


The story about the order to slaughter Ishmael is contained in the Al-Quran Surat As-Saffat verses 102-107:



It means:So when the child arrived (at the age of being able to) try with Ibrahim, Ibrahim said: O my son, I actually saw in a dream that I was slaughtering you. So think what you think! He answered, O my father, do as you are commanded; God willing, you will find me among those who are patient.


When both of them had surrendered and Ibrahim laid his son on (his) temple, (the patience of both of them was evident). And We called him: O Ibrahim, indeed you have justified the dream, indeed this is how We reward those who do good. Indeed this is really a real test. And We redeemed the child with a great slaughter.


Life Values ​​from the Story of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail who Obeyed God's Orders

In a story of prophets and apostles, there must always be values ​​of life that can add to the good deeds of people. Likewise from the story of the pious son of Prophet Ismail AS and his stubborn father, Prophet Ibrahim AS.


1. Always carry out all God's commands even if the command is difficult for human reason to accept.


2. Always believe that Allah always gives trials to his servants according to the ability of the servant himself.


3. Believing that every test or trial from Allah indicates that Allah loves us very much.


4. In the family, every decision to carry out God's commands must be done through deliberation first.


5. Always Be Devoted to Parents, like Prophet Ismail AS who always obeyed his father and mother to carry out all God's commands.


6. Always believe that patience and fortitude will lead us to happiness.


7. Do not be easily tempted by the devil's appeals.
