The story of the Prophet Ismail, the history of the birth of the sacrifice and the release of Zamzam water
The story of Prophet Ismail has been revealed from generation to generation from the holy book since ancient times. Known as the printer of the first history of the events of sacrifice and pilgrimage, Prophet Ismail was very instrumental in the development of Islam.
Isma'il or Ismail is a character in the Qur'an, the Bible, and the Tanakh. In Islam, Ismail is seen as a prophet and apostle. Isma'il is also associated with Mecca and the construction of the Kaaba.
Can be practiced every day, this is the prayer of the Prophet Ibrahim in the Koran
Ismail is the first child of Prophet Ibrahim with his wife Siti Hajar. Prophet Ismail was known as a pious child because he always obeyed Allah's commands. It is said that the birth of Prophet Ismail is the answer to the prayer that Prophet Ibrahim always prayed to Allah.
Prophet Ismail lived around 1911-1779 BC (BC). He is a prophet in divine religious beliefs.
Prophet Ismail lived in Amaliq and preached to the people of Al-Amaliq, Bani Jurhum and Qabilah Yemen. Prophet Ismail died in 1779 BC in Mecca. In the Qur'an, Prophet Ismail's name is mentioned 12 times.
According to Hebrew, Ishma means hear and El means Allah, so Ishmael is Hear (our prayer O) Allah. After a dozen years later, it was narrated that when he was 100 years old, through Siti Sarah, Allah SWT blessed Prophet Ibrahim with a second child, namely Prophet Ishaq.
From the descendants of Prophet Ismail this will later be born the Prophet Muhammad. Meanwhile, from the descendants of Prophet Ishaq, 15 Prophets will be born, one of whom is Prophet Isa. That's why Prophet Ibrahim was finally called the father of the Prophets.
The Beginning of the Suggestion of Sacrifice
Every Eid al-Adha, Muslims who have excess wealth usually make the suggestion of sacrificing. This holiday which is celebrated by Muslims around the world begins with the Prophet Ismail.
This religious holiday for Muslims in the Islamic calendar is celebrated every 10th of Zulhijjah. Eid al-Adha or also commonly called the Eid of Sacrifice, of course, also chooses a long history where it is narrated at the time of Prophet Ibrahim AS when he was about to slaughter his son, Ismail, before finally being replaced with a kibas (sheep) by Allah SWT.
Before entering the history of sacrifice, sacrificial worship can be interpreted as a form of submission of a servant to Allah to draw closer to Him. This command to sacrifice has been outlined by Allah SWT in the Qur'an and stated in the Qur'an Surah Al-Kautsar verses 1-2.
"Indeed, We have given you many blessings. So establish prayer for your Lord and sacrifice." (Surat al-Kautsar (108): 1-2).
The celebration of Eid al-Adha cannot be separated from the slaughter of sacrificial animals. The origin of the sacrifice began with the birth of the Prophet Ismail AS. At that time it was narrated that Prophet Ibrahim AS did not have children until he was old, then he prayed to Allah.
"O my Lord, bestow upon me (a child) who is among the pious." (Surat Ash-Safaat (37): 100).
When Prophet Ismail AS reached his teenage years Prophet Ibrahim AS had a dream that he had to slaughter his son Ismail. The dream of a prophet is one of the ways in which Allah's revelation came down, so the command he received in the dream had to be carried out by Prophet Ibrahim AS.
Ibrahim said: " O my son, I actually saw in a dream that I was slaughtering you." So what do you think? Ismail replied: O my father, do what you are commanded to do. God willing, you will find me one of the patient ones." (Surat Ash-Safaat: 102)
Prophet Ismail asked his father to do what Allah commanded. And he promised his father that he would be patient in carrying out the order. The noble character of Prophet Ismail AS Allah praises him in the Qur'an:
“And tell (O Muhammad to them) the story of Ismail (that one) in the Qur'an. Indeed, he is a true promise, and he is an apostle and a prophet." (Surat Maryam (19): 54)
Prophet Ibrahim then laid his son and prepared to slaughter. Prophet Ismail AS was ready to obey his father's instructions. Prophet Ibrahim AS and Prophet Ismail AS seemed to show their firmness, obedience and patience in carrying out the order.
When Prophet Ibrahim AS was about to swing a machete, Allah SWT then replaced the body of Prophet Ismail AS with a large slaughter, namely a ram from Heaven, which was white, had good eyes, and had horns.
"O Ibrahim, verily you have confirmed the dream, indeed We reward those who do good. In fact this is a real test. And We ransomed the child for a big sacrifice." (Surat Ash-Safaat (37): 104:107).
This incident was a miracle from Allah which confirmed that the command to sacrifice Prophet Ismail AS was only a test for Prophet Ibrahim AS and Prophet Ismail as far as their love and obedience to Allah SWT. It turned out that both of them had passed the very tough test. Prophet Ibrahim AS has shown sincere loyalty with the sacrifice of his son to serve the command of Allah SWT.
Meanwhile, Prophet Ismail AS did not hesitate or hesitate in carrying out the commands of Allah SWT by surrendering his body and soul to be sacrificed to his parents. This is where the origin of the sunnah of sacrificing performed by Muslims on every Eid al-Adha in all corners of the world.
The Beginning of the History of Zamzam Air Water
After some time from the birth of Ismail, Allah the Exalted ordered Ibrahim to go with Hajar and Ishmael to Mecca, so Prophet Ibrahim complied with the order and he went to take them both to Mecca near the place where the Kaaba would later be built.
Not long after arriving there, Prophet Ibrahim left Hajar and Ismail there and wanted to return to Syria. When Hajar saw Prophet Ibrahim come home, then Hajar immediately chased him and grabbed his shirt and said, "O Ibrahim, where are you going? Do you (have the heart) to leave us in this valley where there is no human and nothing?" Hajar kept repeating her question over and over again until finally Ibrahim did not look back at her. Finally Hajar asked, "Did Allah command you over all this?" Ibrahim replied, "Yes." Hajar said,
إِذَنْ لاَ يُضَيِّعُنَا
"Then God will not abandon us."
After Prophet Ibrahim left, over time Siti Hajar's milk dried up due to her lack of food and drink intake. Prophet Ismail who was still a baby and even then began to fuss because he felt hungry and thirsty.
Then, Siti Hajar came to the hill of Shafa, the mountain closest to her. But there he found neither water nor anyone to turn to for help. Then he descended from the hill of Safa and headed for the valley until he came to the second hill called Marwah. Because they did not get anything, Siti Hajar then returned to Evidence Shafa and then returned to Marwah hill. He did this 7 times. This is the history of one of the pillars of performing Umrah and Hajj which is called Sa'i.
It is narrated that while Hajar was in a state of helplessness and was on the verge of despair, Allah sent His help through the angel Gabriel.
"Who exactly are you?" Ask the Angel Gabriel to Siti Hajar.
"I am Abraham's slave," replied Hajar.
"To whom have you been entrusted here?" Jibril asked.
"Only to Allah," replied Hajar. Then Jibril said
, "If so, then you have been entrusted to the Most Gracious, Most Merciful, who will protect you, provide for your needs and will not waste your son's father's trust in Him."
After that, Archangel Jibril took Siti Hajar to a place and then Archangel Jibril stomped his feet firmly on the ground, so water poured from that place. That is Zamzam water which until now never runs out even though it is always used by all Muslims in the world during Hajj.
The release of the water has made the birds fly. This became the concern of a group of Arabs from the Jurhum tribe who wandered and were camping around Makkah.
They know that if there is a bird in the air, there must be a source of water under it. Then some people from the Jurhum Tribe came to look at the location.
After they saw the truth about the existence of water, the Jurhum Tribe moved their camp around Zamzam. Their arrival was welcomed by Siti Hajar. The existence of the Jurhum Tribe makes the loneliness felt by Siti Hajar disappear. The story of Prophet Ismail is the beginning of the emergence of life in Mecca.
That is the story of Prophet Ismail which is very inspiring. Prophet Ismail's obedience deserves to be imitated by all of us. Hopefully there are lessons to be learned from this story.
