The story of the Prophet Lut and the painful punishment of the Sodomites

The story of the Prophet Lut contains many wisdoms, lessons, and warnings related to immoral behavior that is cursed by Allah SWT. This story is also one of the stories of the prophets who have been told on various occasions by Islamic religious leaders.

Prophet Lut is one of God's messengers who is famous for his high patience among the 25 prophets and apostles who must be believed in. Like the other prophets and apostles, the Prophet Lut also faced a tough test while carrying out his da'wah.

Allah SWT sent Prophet Lut to preach to a people called the Sodomites. The Sodomites themselves are famous for their behavior in committing a sin that God hates, namely having same-sex relationships.

Even though they often commit sins that are beyond their limits, Allah SWT still gives them the opportunity to repent and return to the right path by sending the Prophet Lut to their midst. However, it turns out that the Sodomites are still rebellious and they end up getting a painful punishment from God.

Then, what is the story of Prophet Lut and his struggle in preaching and inviting the Sodomites to get out of their immoral behavior? Then, what kind of punishment did Allah SWT finally inflict on these people? Check out the full story below.

Prophet Lut still has a family relationship with Prophet Ibrahim, namely as a nephew of the prophet who built the Kaaba. Prophet Ibrahim took care of Prophet Lut like his own son so that Prophet Lut was very respectful and obeyed all the advice of his uncle.

Because of their closeness, the two often travel to faraway places together. They have explored various areas, both land and sea. Until one day, the wanderings of Prophet Lut and Prophet Ibrahim brought them to Palestine.

It was there that the Prophet Lut received revelations from Allah and was chosen as a prophet. Along with receiving this revelation, Prophet Lut was also sent by God to preach to the Sodomites who had often committed immorality.

With the revelation and the order, the Prophet Lut also settled in the city of Sodom which is known to be located on the border between Jordan and Palestine. This city is famous for many immoral behaviors such as criminal acts to corruption.

In addition, robberies were also rampant in the city because of the large number of merchants from all over who came and stopped by the city of Sodom. In fact, they did not just rob, it was not impossible to kill them when they wanted to plunder the goods belonging to the traders.

Among all these immoral acts, the one that Allah SWT hates the most is the homosexual and lesbian behavior they do. That's why Allah SWT then sent a prophet to be among them and take them away from the path of disobedience.

Prophet Lut did everything he could to preach to the people living in the city and invite them to leave the disobedience that had been committed so far. The Sodomites were also preached to immediately repent away from things that are forbidden by Allah SWT and immediately return to the way of Allah.

Not only living in the city of Sodom, Prophet Lut also behaved like part of the community in that city. He even married a woman named Wali'ah and had two children named Raitsa and Zaghrata. Unfortunately, his wife later became an enemy in a blanket and often leaked information and propaganda strategies of the Prophet Lut to the citizens of Sodom.

This made Lut's missionary journey even more difficult, because he not only had to face rejection from the Sodomites, but also had to face problems that came from his own household.

Despite facing severe trials from the Sodomites and their wives, Prophet Lut still tried to carry out the mandate he had received from Allah SWT. Even so, the Sodom people increasingly hate the Prophet Lut and the da'wah activities he does.

The Sodomites do not even believe in the prophetic status of the Prophet Lut. They suspected that the Prophet Lut was lying and actually had hidden desires and goals when he came to the city of Sodom.

The rejection faced by the Prophet became even more intense when he called firmly for the Sodomites to abandon homosexual and lesbian behavior. Prophet Lut warned them that having sex with the same sex is an act that is not in accordance with morals and includes an act that transgresses.

Prophet Lut also said that if the Sodomites did not change their behavior regarding homosexuality, then Allah would inflict a painful punishment on all the citizens of Sodom.

The growing hatred made the Sodomites plan to expel the Prophet Lut from their city. The Sodomites were disturbed because the Prophet Lut was considered to disturb their pleasures and habits with his da'wah.

The plan of the Sodomites to expel Lut had reached the ears of the Prophet. The Sodomites even openly warned the Prophet that they would expel him by force if he did not stop his preaching.

Even though it has been preaching for so long, but no one from the people of Sodom has repented and left their immorality. In fact, in the city of Sodom only Prophet Lut and his two daughters were carrying out the teachings of Allah SWT. Meanwhile, his wife still did not open her heart to follow the teachings of monotheism brought by the Prophet Lut. That's why the Prophet Lut prayed for help against the Sodomites who continued to rebel.

Prophet Lut's prayer was answered by Allah SWT by bringing three angels disguised as handsome men. The three angels visited the house of Prophet Lut, and the Prophet who did not realize that the three were angels served them food and drink.

The three handsome young men then told the Prophet Lut that the three of them were angels sent by Allah SWT. They also signaled that God's punishment for the Sodomites was drawing near, so they convinced the Prophet Lut to leave the city of Sodom with his family immediately.

Prophet Lut also left the city of Sodom secretly with his wife and children. However, his wife did not follow the Prophet Lut because she did not believe that the punishment would befall the city of Sodom.

Finally, Allah SWT also inflicted punishment in the form of hailstones that destroyed the entire city and the people of Sodom who liked to sin, including the wife of Prophet Lut who chose not to go with her husband.

Such is the story of the Prophet Lut who was assigned to preach to the Sodomites who had committed sins that were cursed by Allah SWT. However, the disobedience of the Sodomites that did not end made God finally bring down punishment for them.
