The story of a scorpion saves a drunkard from a snakebite
Once upon a time, one day Yusuf bin Husayn with Dzun Nun al-Mishri was on the bank of a tributary in the territory of Egypt. Suddenly a large scorpion was seen on the other side of the creek, then a frog came out from across the creek. The scorpion then climbed onto the frog's body, and the frog then swam across the creek.
Seeing this, Dzun Nun said, “ This scorpion must have a mission. Let's follow it. "As explained by Ibn Qudamah al-Maqdisi in the book at-Tawwabin , the two of them then followed where the frog and the scorpion went.
On the way down the river to follow the two animals. Their steps were stopped by the presence of a drunk man who lay unconscious due to the influence of alcohol. On the drunken man's side, a snake appeared that was creeping up his body from his navel to his chest. Apparently, the snake is looking for the ear hole.
When the snake was trying to find the ear canal, suddenly the scorpion and frog that they had seen earlier came closer. The scorpion immediately jumped up and stung the snake, until finally the snake fell upside down and died. After that, the scorpion went back down into the creek, and the frog came back to him. The scorpion climbed back on the frog's back, and the frog then swam to the other side of the creek.
Seeing this incident, Dzun Nun woke the drunken young man. When the young man opened his eyes, Dzun Nun said to him, " O young man, see how Allah saves you. This scorpion comes to kill the snake that wants to bite you. ”
After saying to the young man, Dzun Nun also rhymed, " O people who are heedless. Yet God took care of him. Of all the dangers that creep in the darkness. How the sleeping eyes of a King. Yet many pleasures come from Him. ”
Hearing Dzun Nun's words, the young man was surprised and got up. He then said, " My Lord, this is what You do to those who disobey You, then how is Your love for those who obey You? " The drunken young man then left.
Yusuf bin Husayn who saw this then asked him, " Where are you going? He replied, “ Want to go to the countryside to repent. By Allah, I will not return to the city forever! ”
Such is the love of Allah swt. to His servants. Those who are grateful for His mercy and compassion will certainly realize, if there are many pleasures, comforts, health, and so on that Allah swt. give to His servants. As the story above, a drunkard who finally repented because he was saved from calamity.
The story above also shows that, everyone in this world can get guidance from Allah swt. and will return to the right path. Therefore, do not be easy to judge the lives of others who are living, even though their lives are different from most other human beings. Because people who are lost and like to do immorality, someday will repent.
