The story of Urwah bin Hizam failed to marry the woman he loved because he had no wealth
Once upon a time, there lived a young man named Urwah bin Hizam. He is a young man who was abandoned by his father when he was a child. Since then, Urwah became an orphan and was raised by his uncle named Uqal bin Muhashir until he reached puberty.
Urwah bin Hizam came from Bani Udzrah, and lived during the tabi'in generation, to be precise during the time of Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan. When he was a child, he often played with a girl named Afra'. The two of them often played together until they reached puberty. The two of them together from childhood to adulthood, turned out to foster a feeling of comfort and mutual love between the two of them.
As explained by Ibnul Jauzi in his book Dzammul Hawa , this made Urwah's uncle once said to him, " Be happy, indeed Afra' will be your wife, God willing. ”
When Urwah grew up, he went to his aunt named Hindun bint Muhashir. To his aunt, he complained about his love for Afra'.
To the aunt, Urwah also said, " O aunt, I really want to talk to you, but I am ashamed of you. I had to do this, because I couldn't take it anymore. ”
After hearing the explanation from her nephew, the aunt immediately went to her brother and said, “ O my brother, I have come to you for a reason. May Allah reward him with kindness; marry Urwah to Afra'. ”
Hearing this request, his aunt Urwah's brother actually said, " He has no possessions and he doesn't need to be in a hurry. ”
It turned out that Afra' family, namely the mother wanted her daughter to be married to a rich person. This is of course very inversely proportional to the situation of Urwah bin Hizam, who does not have much wealth and is not rich.
Hearing about the wishes of the Afra' family, Urwah went to his uncle. To the uncle, he said, “ You already know my closeness to him. And I heard that, there is a man who wants to propose to Afra', so if he gets it, then I can die because of it. ”
The uncle immediately said, " I will not give it to anyone other than you. However, Afra' mother wanted an expensive dowry. So look for you a lot of fortune and try. ”
Receiving such advice, Urwah then met Afra' parents. To him, he spoke and begged him to wait and not take another decision, namely to marry Afra' to a man other than himself. Afra' parents also accepted and promised to do so.
Urwah then went to find a way for him to get a lot of fortune in the form of wealth. This time he went to Yemen to meet his uncle's rich son. Arriving at his brother's place, Urwah was then given a hundred Camels.
In the midst of Urwah's efforts to find wealth so that he can propose to Afra' to be his wife. In fact, Afra' parents actually agreed to a rich man and a lot of wealth to propose to Afra'. And Afra' couldn't do anything about it, because his mother had accepted him and didn't heed his father's opinion.
When receiving the proposal, the mother even had time to say, " There has come to our door a rich person. And we don't know whether Urwah is alive or dead. Will he come with treasure or not? ”
After accepting the proposal, Afra's parents married him off. After marriage, Afra' was then taken by her husband to Sham.
Having previously promised to wait for Urwah, Afra's parents tried to hide their daughter's proposal and marriage. They then made a fake grave in the name of Afra'. The aim was none other than to keep Afra' marriage a secret, as well as to deceive, if Urwah came to propose to Afra'.
It turned out that after some time, Urwah actually came to Afra' parents' house. His arrival to propose to Afra', was greeted with condolences for the death of Afra', the woman he loved and cherished, and who he fought for to marry.
The false news that if Afra' died immediately made Urwah go back and forth in Afra' fake grave for days. Until in the end, he found out the real fact that Afra' had been married to another man who was rich.
This also makes Urwah upset and heartbroken. With tearful eyes and emaciated body after days of pacing in fake graves. He went to meet his family. People who saw his condition said, “ Urwah was hit by magic. Others said, " He is possessed by a Jinn. ' And others said, ' He was smitten with evil. ”
The people then took Urwah to various doctors. The goal is none other than to treat the pain he suffered. However, there is no single doctor who is able to treat the disease he is suffering from. Namely, the disease of a broken heart because of love. Until one day when he was taken to a doctor, Urwah said, “ My disease and medicine is only someone who lives in Balqa'. He is my disease and to him is my medicine. ”
Urwah then returned to his family, and said to them, " Know that when I see Afra' just once, my pain will disappear. ”
Secretly, his family then took him to Sham. During the trip, he always remembers Afra', the woman he loves and cares for. On the way, Urwah had stopped at the residence of a man he did not know. The man is a generous, respected figure, a lot of wealth, and has many guests and associations. It turned out that the man was Afra's husband. He welcomed Urwah so well, until finally Afra 'was aware of the arrival of Urwah bin Hizam.
Not long after that, a man came and said to Afra' husband, “ You let this man in your house to humiliate you? ”
Hearing these words, Afra' husband denied it. He then brought Urwah, and said, “ Don't bother who is in my house. He then went out and left Afra' together with Urwah. To the doorman of his house, he ordered to watch what the two of them said.
During the meeting, Urwah said to Afra', “ This man is a good person. And I won't stay after knowing it. Verily I am going to my death. “Urwah left the place where Afra' lived with her husband. However, after the meeting he became ill again and eventually died.
Love can indeed make people happy, as well as tormented by it. But if that love is mixed with lust, what happens is that the human soul is so tormented. Because of the desire that, what is loved must be owned. Though not everything that is loved can be owned completely.
God sometimes only brings together, but does not unite in the bond of marriage. How many people get married, but not all of those who get married start from loving each other. Because there are also those who marry because of the choice of their parents, or marry those who are wealthy, and so on.
At least, every love relationship, whether it is approved or not, always brings wisdom and important lessons for human life. Because humans can only try, but God is still Almighty, including in regulating the love affairs of His servants.
However, one of the most beautiful things and extraordinary gifts from God in human life related to romance, is the union of two souls who love each other in a sacred bond called marriage. Because the cure for love is marriage.
