The story of Wahdhah al-Yamani: Love doesn't always have to have, sometimes you have to let it go
The story of Wahdhah al-Yamani: Love doesn't always have to have, sometimes you have to let it go
Once upon a time, there lived two humans named Wahdhah al-Yamani and Ummul Banin. Wahdhah is the most handsome young man in the Arab region, while Ummul Banin is the most beautiful and kind woman.
As explained by Ibnul Jauzi in his book Dzammul Hawa , the two young men from childhood lived together until they grew up. They both love each other. Wahdhah loves Ummul Banin, and vice versa.
The feeling of mutual love between the two finally got a test. Because, when she reached the age of puberty, Ummul Banin was not allowed to meet the man she loved as well as the man who loved her. The test was too long for both of them.
Until one day, when al-Walid bin Abdul Malik went to perform Hajj, he heard news about the beauty and goodness of a woman named Ummul Banin. He finally married her, and took her to Syria.
Knowing the woman he loves has been married to someone else, Wahdhah was beyond confused. Even he is like a person who is losing his mind because he thinks about the person he loves. He also became miserable and indecisive.
The test took so long. Until finally, Wahdah went to Sham. His goal is none other than to see the woman he loves, even though it can no longer be his. When he arrived in Sham, he circled the palace of al-Walid bin Abdul Malik every day. He couldn't find a way, and didn't know what to do. Until one day, he saw a tan-skinned slave girl. He tried to approach him, and said to him, “ Do you know Umm Banin? The
slave replied with a question, “ Are you asking my master?
Wahdah replied, "In fact she is my uncle's daughter. He will be happy to know where I am, if you are willing to tell him. "
Hear Wahdah's words. The slave girl then said, “ I will tell him. "
Finally, the slave girl told this to Umm Banin. Surprised, Ummul Banin said, “ Woe! Is he still alive? “ Yes ,” replied the slave.
To the slave, Ummul Banin then said, " Tell him, "stay where you are, until my messenger comes to you. I'll try to do something for you. ”
Ummul Banin then tried to enter Wahdhah into the palace to meet him. Finally, he put Wahdhah into the chest. So that in some time, Wahdhah and Ummul Banin could meet each other and be close again with a status that was not what it used to be. Ummul Banin has become someone's wife, while Wahdhah is still alone.
When conditions were deemed safe, Ummul Banin took out Wahdhah from the chest to sit down together. When worried about being caught by the royal supervisor, Ummul Banin put him back in the chest. The incident was repeated many times, until Ummul Banin's house contained many chests.
The forbidden act did not last long. Starting from al-Walid bin Abdul Malik who got a pearl gift. And he said to some of his servants,Take this pearl and bring it to Ummul Believers. And say to him, "This pearl was given to Amir al-mu'minin, then given to you.
One of the servants then went to Ummul Banin's place . The waiter turned out to go straight into his room without asking permission first. At that time, Wahdhah was with Ummul Banin. Wahdhah realized this, but not Ummul Banin. Immediately, Wahdah rushed into the chest.
The servant immediately conveyed the king's message to Ummul Banin. As it turned out, the servant wanted one of the jewels that were given to Ummul Banin. He said, " Give me one of these pearls. "Hearing the waiter's request, Ummul Banin said, "Not. Should not. You don't have a mother, what are you asking for this jewelery for. "
Seeing and hearing Ummul Banin say that, the servant was disappointed and angry. He then complained to al-Walid, " O Amir al-mu'minin, when I entered his house, I saw him with a man. When he saw me, he put the man in the crate. The man was in such and such a chest. The servant told about the existence of the chest he saw in Ummul Banin's house in great detail. But al-Walid actually said, " You lie, O Prophet of Allah. Hit his neck. ”
The guards were ready to carry out orders. They prepared to beat and behead him, but al-Walid held him back for a while. He then rushed to his feet and put on his sandals, then went to meet Ummul Banin. At that time, Ummul Banin turned out to be combing her hair in her room.
Al-Walid who came immediately sat on the chest whose characteristics were mentioned by the waiter. He then asked, " O Ummul Banin, what do you like about this house?
Ummul Banin replied, " O Amirul Mu'minin, I can include my needs in it. It also contains my tools. When I need something, I can grab it close by.
Al-Walid again asked, "What are the contents of these chests I see? “ My jewelry and my furniture. "Umm Banin replied.
Al-Walid who was still curious again said, " Give me one of these chests. Hearing this request, Ummul Banin replied, " Myself and all these chests are for you, O Amirul Mu'minin. "
Unfortunately al-Walid did not want all the chests in his house. He also said, “ No. I only want one. And I have given you all the jewels and all that is in them which is gold.
Hearing al-Walid's words, Ummul Banin immediately said, " Take what you want. ”
Al-Walid then chose the chest he was sitting on. To Ummul Banin, he also said, " The chest below. "
Seeing al-Walid choose a chest in which there was Wahdhah al-Yamani, Ummul Banin was shocked and immediately said, " O Amirul Mu'minin, choose something other than this and take another. There's actually something in this chest that I really like. "
It turns out, the king still doesn't want to choose another chest. He again chimed in the words of Ummul Banin, " I don't want anything else. "
Finally, Ummul Banin gave up and gave up the chest and said, " Please, it's for you. ”
Al-Walid then gave the order for the chest to be brought. He then ordered two of his bodyguards to dig a well. Then put the chest into the well, after which it was filled with stones and earth. Since that incident, Wahdhah al-Yamani was never seen again. Because he had been buried in a well with a chest.
Seeing the coffin buried, Ummul Banin wept. Until one day, he was found dead with his face face down.
God sometimes only brings together, but does not unite. How many people have romantic relationships for years, but only a few get to the aisle. And those who often indulge their lusts are not infrequently those who continue to be in a relationship that is prohibited by religion, as the story above.
Therefore, if someone you love has become someone's wife or property, then it is not appropriate to still fight for and be approached. Because if what is in the heart is the desire to have the whole, then it is not love, but lust that can plunge people into sin. Because, the highest level of loving someone sometimes is to let them be happy with other people.
