This is the Complete History of the Ciamis Darussalam Islamic Boarding School
The Darussalam Islamic Boarding School in Ciamis, West Java, has produced many qualified santri and female alumni.
There are even those who have become officials, artists, scholars and many more, therefore this Islamic boarding school is called a favourite.
However, with so many achievements, it turns out that the name of the Darussalam Islamic Boarding School was originally the Tjidewa or Cidewa Islamic Boarding School.
HR Online had the opportunity to directly chat with the Caretaker of the Darussalam Ciamis Islamic Boarding School, KH. Fadlil Yani Ainusyamsi who is also often called Kang Icep.
According to Kang Icep, the Ciamis Darussalam Islamic Boarding School was founded by his grandfather, namely Kyai Ahmad Fadlil in 1929. Then, when his grandfather was 40 years old, he died in 1950.
"After the death of our grandfather, then the father of KH. Irfan Hielmy, who is the second successor, at that time my father was still young and still in the struggle to become the caretaker of the next Islamic boarding school, "he said, Friday (15/4/2022).
So for 5 years at the Darussalam Islamic Boarding School it was led by his grandfather's students, namely KH. Zaenal Mustofa, who currently owns the Darul Falah Islamic Boarding School in Handapherang, Cijeungjing, Ciamis.
"Well, it was only in 1955 that Islamic boarding school was held by KH's father. Irfan Hielmy. During that time, the Islamic boarding school still had the name Cidewa. So in 1930-1963 it was still famous for the Cidewa Islamic Boarding School," he explained.
Kang Icef continued, after his father became the successor to the two Islamic boarding schools, the name was changed to Darussalam Islamic Boarding School since 1963.
Because, in the past, the Pesantren was named according to the area or location where the Pesantren is located.
At that time, the Darussalam Islamic Boarding School if the village was in Adultri, but the village was part of the Islamic Boarding School in Cidewa so it was automatically called the Cidewa Islamic Boarding School.
Since 1963 the students of this Darussalam Islamic Boarding School have come from various provinces in Indonesia.
"It can be said that the Darussalam Islamic Boarding School has representatives from Sabang to Merauke, but there are more in Jabodetabek," he explained.
Darussalam Ciamis Islamic Boarding School Established Before Independence
Kang Icep explained that the Darussalam Islamic boarding school was established before the independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
At that time, it was aimed at educating the people together, fighting against the invaders together with other scholars.
"Of course at that time it was an obligation and a normal thing to defend this nation and country," he explained.
At that time, said Kang Icep, the Cidewa Islamic Boarding School had 40 students. However, over time, until Grandpa Kyai Ahmad Fadlil died and left up to 400 students.
"Nowadays, the students are from various regions from Sabang to Merauke and their education ranges from RA to universities, so if you add up there are approximately 6,650 students and there are many more that have not been counted from outside," he said.
Kang Icep hopes that the Darussalam Ciamis Islamic Boarding School and Islamic Boarding School in Indonesia will also maintain the values of Islamic tradition and culture in their respective Islamic boarding schools.
Then, the values of adabiah or moral ethics must be instilled in the people, society, students or if the Islamic boarding school is to the students.
"Because santri are the essence for us, that is, Pesantren from the word satria to Pestriaan, where people are educated, fostered on the spot, then their moral and physical strength is built, so it is called Pesantren," concluded Kang Icep.
