THREE MESSAGES FROM THE STORY OF THE PROPHET IBRAHIM AS
THREE MESSAGES FROM THE STORY OF THE PROPHET IBRAHIM AS
Sacrificial worship cannot be separated from the story of Prophet Ibrahim as. and also his son, the Prophet Ismail as. Which is listed in the QS Ash-Shaffat: 102-111. The history of sacrificial worship begins with the Prophet Abraham. When he dreamed that Allah swt ordered to slaughter Prophet Ismail as. a son whom he loved dearly. But with sincerity and belief and obedience to Allah swt. Prophet Ismail as. was replaced with a sheep by Allah swt.
So that every year at qurban worship there are animals that are commonly used for qurban including goats, sheep, cows or camels. kurban means close, in Fiqh it is customary to use the terms udlhiyyah, tadlhiyyah, adlhah and dlahiyyah which means getting closer to Allah by doing some of His commands.
So it can be said that the sacrifice on Eid al-Adha is the act of slaughtering certain animals with the intention of getting closer to Allah swt. which is done at a certain time (Idul Adha time) and also an expression of our gratitude to Allah swt. for the blessings bestowed upon us. The law to implement it is the sunnah of mu'akad. There are at least three messages that can be drawn from the story of Prophet Ibrahim as. who gave his son to be slaughtered, namely:
1. Total obedience to Allah swt.
Prophet Abraham as. who earned the nickname " khalilullah " (beloved of Allah) got a severe test when his feelings of happiness overflowed with the presence of the baby in his household. Through the order to slaughter Ismail as. Allah SWT. as if to remind that children are just a deposit.
With full sincerity, Prophet Ibrahim passed this test, he proved himself able to overcome his ego to obey Allah swt. While the Prophet Ismail as. Even though he was still young, he was able to prove himself as a devoted and obedient child to Allah's commands. So on the basis of his piety and patience, he also fulfilled the call of Allah swt. by giving himself to his father to be slaughtered with full sincerity. That is a very great example in surrendering totally to Allah swt. without the slightest doubt in the hearts of the two.
2. The nature of sacrifice
Alms of the meat of the sacrificial animal is only a symbol of the meaning of the victim, which means that it includes the sacrifice of property, energy, thoughts, time, and even life. Sacrifice is a manifestation of our consciousness as creaturessocialwhich has taste and intention.
Imagine, what would happen if each human only fulfilled their own ego and needs without caring about the needs of others, this life would be chaotic and humans should not be greedy because greed is only worthy of being owned by animals.
So this is where we need to "slaughter" our animalistic ego, to reach closeness ( qurb ) to Allah swt. because the essence of qurban is solidarity with others and pure sincerity to hope for the pleasure of Allah swt. only and also proof of our piety to Allah swt.
3. The result of struggle and sacrifice in the way of Allah swt.
The lesson that we can take from this qurban worship is that the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim as. to the child he loves. But the sacrifice of the Prophet Abraham. not only that, the sacrifice of the Prophet Abraham. it has been done since he was young, when he defended his faith before King Namrud, so he was tortured by being thrown into the fire.
Even though he was in a terrible fire for forty days and forty nights, Prophet Ibrahim (as) feel that is true happiness. There is no happiness in his whole life that exceeds the joy of being in the flames.
That is the fire of struggle, that is the fire of sacrifice, and that is happiness. So, anyone who wants happiness should be aware to keep fighting and willing to sacrifice on the right path. There is no happiness without struggle and sacrifice.
So it can be concluded that the three messages from the story of Prophet Ibrahim as. First, the event of sacrificial worship is a form of total surrender to Allah swt. Second, the sacrifice of property, energy, thought, time, even life. This sacrifice is a manifestation of our awareness as social beings who have feelings and values. And third, there is no happiness without struggle and sacrifice.
