4 Activities That the Prophet Did in the Month of Ramadan

Ramadan is a month full of forgiveness and mercy from Allah swt. Ramadan is also the most noble month among other hijri months. It was narrated from Abdullah bin Mas'ud who said that Ramadan is like a leader among other months. Meanwhile, Friday is the leader among other days. Ink history also records that several important events occurred in the month of Ramadan, such as the revelation of the Koran and the victory of Muslims in the battle of Badr.

As his people, of course we ask, what were the activities of the Prophet during the 9 months of Ramadan that he passed?

Prof. Dr. KH Ali Mustafa Yaqub in his book Islam is not only for Muslims mentions four routine activities that he does during the fasting month of Ramadan:

Tadarus Quran

Tadarus Qur'an in the month of Ramadan is done by listening to the readings of others who are reading it. This is done alternately. Tadarus Qur'an is the sunnah of the Prophet which has a very clear basis of evidence.

"It was narrated from Ibn Abbas who said that the Messenger of Allah. He is the most generous person, especially in the month of Ramadan. At that time, the Prophet did tadarus Qur'an with Jibril. The Prophet read, Jibril also listened. The generosity of the Messenger of Allah is even more powerful than the wind that blows hard” (Narrated by Bukhari).

Donate a lot

Based on the above hadith, Rasulullah SAW. prefer to spend a lot in the month of Ramadan than just doing umrah. Giving charity is a social service whose benefits can be enjoyed by others. Meanwhile, Umrah is only an individual worship that can only be enjoyed by oneself. Moreover, there is no single evidence that states that the Messenger of Allah. I have performed Umrah in the month of Ramadan.

Tarawih

The word tarawih is the plural of tarwihah which means a short break. That is, the tarawih prayer should be done in a relaxed, calm, and not rushed manner. Tarawih prayer itself has been done since the time of the Prophet Muhammad. When the Prophet prayed in Qiyam Ramadan or Tarawih in the mosque, many of his companions turned to him. However, the Prophet only did this three times. After that, the Prophet performed the tarawih prayer at home.

This is done so that the tarawih prayer is not considered obligatory. Rasulullah SAW. himself never set a definite number of tarawih rakaat. Therefore, no matter how many rak'ahs of tarawih are performed on the night of the month of Ramadan, it is justified in Islam. Eight rakaat, twenty rakaat, or any number of rakaats are justified in Islam. That is, there is no specific limit for the tarawih prayer cycle.

Itikaf in the last ten nights of Ramadan

Towards the last ten nights of Ramadan, the Messenger of Allah was busy in Itikaf in the mosque.

"It was narrated from Aisha who said that the Prophet Muhammad SAW. when entering the last 10 nights of Ramadan, he focused on worship, filled his nights with worship, and woke his family to join in worship” (Bukhari).
