Biography of Shafiyyah, the wife of the Prophet of Jewish descent

Institute[:en]The Khaibar War. This is the starting point of the meeting of the Prophet Muhammad. with the daughter of Huyai bin Akhthab, the great leader of the Bani Nadhir and Bararah bin Samu'ul Jews. Her name is Shafiyyah. This 17-year-old girl is already a widow because she divorced her husband, Salam bin Abul Huqaiq. He remarried to Kinanah, but his second husband died while fighting the Muslim troops in the Khaibar war, in 4 Hijriyyah. Both husbands were great poets among the Jews.

When the victory of the Khaibar war was on the side of the Muslim troops, Shafiyyah was included in the ranks of the Jewish women who were captured and became the property of Dihyah al-Kalbi. But one of the companions told the Messenger of Allah that Shafiyyah should only be worthy of the Messenger of Allah and not for Dihyah, because she has high lineage and honor. The Prophet also ordered Dihyah to bring Shafiyyah to him.

Sure enough, Shafiyyah was not just any ordinary prisoner, at that time Allah SWT inserted love in the heart of the Prophet and ordered him to marry this beautiful and polite woman. After that, the Prophet also gave seven ordinary captive women to Dihyah in exchange for Shafiyyah which now belongs to the Prophet. Then he married Shafiyyah who had embraced Islam with independence as her dowry.

The Prophet gave it to Umm Sulaym to make up. And the next morning the Prophet held his wedding party with Shafiyyah who was visited by friends who helped bring cheese, dates and ghee to be served.

The beauty and superiority of Shafiyyah's character made the other wives of the Prophet (PBUH) afflicted with jealousy. Once the Prophet performed Hajj with his wives. Suddenly the camel riding on Shafiyyah roared, stopped suddenly, reluctant to walk. He was crying, the Messenger of Allah approached him, wiped his tears and calmed him down.

Then, the Prophet saw down Shafiyyah and ordered his wife (Zainab bint Jahsy) to lend her camel to Shafiyyah. But Zainab was reluctant and said: “I lent you your Jewish woman? Hearing that, the Prophet was angry and did not want to talk to Zainab until he returned to Medina. Even until the month of Muharram and Safar did not come to him, did not take turns until Zainab regretted her actions.

When Shafiyyah came from Khaibar, the Ansar women came to her, curious about her beautiful face, as well as Aisyah ra, she came but was wearing a niqab, the Messenger of Allah asked Aisha, "How can you see if your face is covered with a niqab? Aisha ra. who burned with jealousy said: I saw a Jewish woman?, The Prophet also said: "Don't talk like that, she has converted to Islam with a good Islam".

Women who still have the lineage of the Prophet Harun As. And Prophet Musa (as) is also the wife of the Prophet Muhammad who narrated the hadith. Among his students were Ali bin al-Husain, Ishaq bin Abdillah bin Al-Haris, his slave named Kinanah and many more.

She is also known as a woman who is patient and authoritative. His patience was tested by his own slave girl who suddenly came to Umar and said that Shafiyyah still loves Saturday (as her big day) and still maintains a relationship with the Jews. Umar also came to Shafiyyah and asked about it.

He also replied that he no longer loves Saturdays since he converted to Islam, and instead loves Fridays. While his closeness to the Jews was because he still had relatives with them, therefore he wanted to keep the ties of friendship with them. Then he said to his slave, what made you like this (slandering and complaining that was not) he replied that this was a temptation from Satan. Hearing that answer, Shafiyyah was not angry, she even freed her slave girl.

He died during the caliphate of Mu'awiyyah in 50 H.. and was buried in Baqi. Before he left, he had left a third of his wealth to his brother who was still a Jew.
