Ibn Aqil

Ibn Aqil

He persecuted those who were bad, and who were intellectually far below him.

The 16-year-old suddenly turned into a kara stick. The fathers and their families were slaughtered. Date 1055, Baghdad was completely destroyed by the Seljuks.

By Ali ibn Muhammad Abu al Wafa ibn Aqil, the trial was translated as a forge towards survival. With his intellectual talent contained since childhood, he became a copyist. The wages from his livelihood are enough for him to use for food, as well as study fees.

"I will not abandon the search for knowledge," said Ibn Aqil, quietly. “Except on two nights; the night of the wedding, also at that time, on the sad night of my parents' passing."

Ibn Aqil continued to grow. His intelligence is maturing. Fortunately, his love of hunting for knowledge later in life was supported by the generosity of a merchant; Abu Manshur ibn Yusuf.

Once upon a time, Ibn Aqil was interested in studying law. He went to the chief judge of the Hanbali school, al-Qadhi Abu Ya'la. There, he looked even more brilliant. Like the only favorite student.

It is said that intelligence often drives a person to be curious. While wallowing in the knowledge of Abu Ya'la, Ibn Aqil did not let his time be empty for even a second. He felt the need and interest in visiting other teachers. Let's just say, to Abu al Thayib at Thabari, al Khatib al Baghdadi, Abu Ishaq al Shirazi, and Abu Muhammad al Tamimi, Ibn Aqil also studied more or less. The same thing, he did to the exponents of rationalist thought. This is where the matter begins.

Abu Ya'la's other students felt annoyed. Ibn Aqil's actions are considered to pollute Hanabilah's alma mater. It started with slander mixing sects, until heretical accusations; continuously leading to the figure born in 1039.

Being showered with millions of hoaxes, Ibn Aqil's ears did not turn red. He remained calm, nor did he see his attacker as an opponent. Unfortunately, Ibn Aqil's wise attitude was interpreted differently. Slander did not work, violence was applied. Ibn Aqil was beaten and beaten until he fell to the ground, one day.

“He was persecuted by those who were bad, and who were intellectually far below him,” wrote Khaled Abou el-Fadl, in the Conference of the Book: The Search for Beauty in Islam.

Ibn Aqil prefers to stay away from low quality debates. His persistence in seeking knowledge and knowledge does not necessarily disappear. Because he understands, the broadest knowledge will lead a person to be wiser, and have integrity.

Integrity cannot be shared, said Ibn Aqil. It must be presented in every corner of the mind. This includes understanding and practicing piety to God. A Muslim, should look at everything brightly. Diversity and difference in Ibn Aqil's mind; understood as grace, wealth, as well as opportunity.

Integrity is also what will then display Islam as a practice of life that is full of justice. Islam cannot, in fact, be used in the name of coercion, violence, and other barbaric acts.

At the age of 20, Ibn Aqil was involved in a serious feud with the Minister of Finance of the Seljuk Dynasty, Abu Sa'ad al Musthawi. Ibn Aqil opposed the project to restore the tomb of Imam Abu Hanifah. The reason, the ruler at that time ordered the military to rob the big doors belonging to churches and synagogues in Samarra.

Ibn Aqil also released, that the excavation project for the new foundation was very likely to dig the bones of the priest. Substantial respect for someone, according to Ibn Aqil, is far more important than just packaging.

Contantly, Ibn Aqil's criticism was met with the stamp of a heretical scholar, a follower of blind taklid and heresy, a protector of the church, and a rejector of Islamic progress. His blood; legalized.

The truth has been conveyed, Ibn Aqil was not upset; he continued to write and study. The principles of Islamic humanism that he adhered to gave birth to the book al Funun. Unmitigated, up to 800 volumes thick.

Ibn Aqil is a pearl in a civilization. Islam has many. But in each period, don't be surprised if "Ibn Aqil-Ibn Aqil"; will be full of slander.
