Meaning of Indonesian Independence in the style of Habib Lutfi

Meaning of Indonesian Independence in the style of Habib Lutfi

August 17, 2016 has arrived and Indonesia is 71 years old. The actual age is enough to relax and enjoy the hard work of the heroes who fought for independence. The Indonesian people did not automatically become independent. The history taught in schools has explained that Indonesian Independence was proclaimed by a bloody power struggle against the invaders. We must uphold the highest respect for the heroes.

Bung Karno in his speech on the commemoration of Hero's Day, November 10, 1961 emphasized that, "A great nation is a nation that respects the services of its heroes." Respect for this hero is the focal point of the nation to go further in filling independence by advancing the nation. So, how do we commemorate the services of the heroes?

Habib Luthfi bin Ali bin Yahya in a lecture last week once said , “One way for today's young generation to understand the meaning of independence is by visiting the graves of heroes. Muslims, please hold a prayer together there, Tahlilan-Yasinan to pray for the heroes, recite the Qur'an if necessary. Other religions are welcome to come and pray in the way their respective religions follow.

Take our children to the graves of the heroes. Children certainly understand that they are dead people, will not worship him. Explain this hero whose name is corporal, this is a hero. (For example) This tomb is the grave of an unknown hero. Introduce the heroes to the children from an early age so they understand that independence is not a gift. And so that in the children grow love for the nation. The strong love for this nation is more powerful than even nuclear."

Dawuh Habib Luthfi is certainly in line with Bung Karno's speech above, that a great nation is a nation that appreciates the services of its heroes. And to prove that, we need to visit the graves of the heroes in our respective cities and hold a prayer together in one knitting of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, regardless of religion, skin color or language, starting with singing the anthem Indonesia Raya.

The attitude of love for the homeland must also be built in all lines and elements of society. Reading Pancasila and singing the anthem Indonesia Raya must really be cultivated. Singing the anthem Indonesia Raya and reading Pancasila should not only be done at official activities or ceremonies. As much as possible in any agenda, both social and community agendas, it must be cultivated to sing the national anthem. The importance of the national anthem and Pancasila cannot be underestimated. Once we underestimate the national anthem and Pancasila, there will be a sense of inadequacy , and will be the cause of the decline of the nation's nationalism and the love of the younger generation for their homeland.

Prophet Muhammad SAW once said, "I love Arabs because I am an Arab nation." The expression of the Prophet's love for his people is proof that love for the homeland is grounded and has evidence (hadith).

The love for the homeland is present as a form of gratitude to Allah SWT for the gift of the motherland of Indonesia. Love for the homeland also affects the development and progress of a nation. If our nationalism weakens, don't expect us as Muslims to be able to answer the challenges of the people and the challenges of the nation.
